=/\=We’re gong to make repairs and that should get us safely somewhere to deal with the things that require more work than we can do ourselves, but without the attacks, we should be okay,=/\= the captain said. =/\=Thank you again for your assistance. It’s important that these artifacts make it to Memory Alpha. It’s good to know they are in safe hands.=/\=

The Corvallen captain ended the call.

~Mischief Maker

Aaron hoped the Captain was right, and that they’d be able to get through with minimal interference.

“Alright, tactical, keep an eye on the long range sensors. I want to know as soon as possible if anything is heading our way. Helm, set course for Memory Alpha, Warp 7. Engage.”

Capt Foley - CO

“Aye, Captain.” With their new heading, the ship jumped to warp.

~Mischief Maker

After the call ended Pilar said, “Captain,” stepping forward, “there was nothing remarkable about the cargo. But I can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to this than meets the eye. I am at a loss. Not sure what our next move should be.”

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

Aaron nodded as he thought about it for a moment. “And scans of the cargo and containers came up negative for any sort of tracking device?”

Capt Foley - CO

Pilar furrowed her brows, contemplating the situation. “No, sir. We ran thorough scans, and there was no trace of any tracking devices or anything out of the ordinary. It’s unsettling. However I suggest we keep digging. Check the manifests again, review the crew’s backgrounds—anything that might give us a clue.”

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

Aaron nodded as he listened. “There has to be a clue somewhere. Keep an eye on it, and feel free to loop in any of the senior staff for a second opinion. And let’s do a thorough scan of the crates and artifacts again. Just to double check that there isn’t some exotic radiation that it’s giving off that we can be tracked with.

“And in the meantime, I’m keeping the ship on yellow alert till we arrive at Memory Alpha. Something just doesn’t feel right.”

Capt Foley - CO

“Understood, sir,” she replied. “I’ll coordinate with the Chief Science Officer and have him start the scans immediately.” She activated comms and said, “Lieutenant Lis, I need you to run another scan of the crate and its contents. Look for any faint signs of anomalies, anything out of the ordinary. We need to be thorough. We are pretty sure that something in that crate holds the key as to why the Corvallen was being pursued. Let us know as soon as you find anything.”

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

While they were at warp and debating next steps, a ship appeared without any warning, matching the Challenger’s speed. “Ship to starboard. It’s the Orions!” One of the bridge crew called out. The Orions fired immediately. The ship shook hard and automatically went to red alert as lights flickered. “Direct hit to Deck 5, aft, power distribution,” the NE at the engineering station called out.

And just like that, the Orion ship disappeared from sensors.

~Mischief Maker

Aaron held on tight as the ship shook and the lights flickered. The red alert klaxons automatically going off.

“Tactical, do you have a target?”

“No sir,” the NE at tactical replied. “They’ve already disappeared from sensors.”

Aaron cursed under his breath. “Where did that ship come from, and how is it avoiding our sensors?” he asked out loud, not really to anyone in particular.

=^=Foley to Engineering. How bad is it?=^=

Capt Foley - CO

=/\= Tor here, Captain. It’s bad. We need to take all systems off line for at least ten minutes so we can cycle the relays, clear the overloads, and recalibrate the power distribution. And we need to drop warp now! =/\= came the immediate reply

Tor, CE

=^=Understood. Get me shields back as quickly as possible. I don’t want to be a sitting duck.=^=

Switching channels Aaron opened a ship wide channel. =^=All hands brace for emergency stop.=^=

“Helm, take us out of warp. Full stop.”

“Aye, Captain.” The Challenger Drooped out of warp quickly with a bit of a shudder as inertial dampeners struggled to compensate due to the power issues.

Zunara quickly tapped his combadge, “=^= Zunara to Bridge, everything all right up there? =^=”

-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-
(cross-posted from Cargo Bay)

Pilar stood firm as the ship trembled beneath her feet. The flickering lights cast eerie shadows across the bridge, adding to the urgency of the situation.
“Lieutenant Zunara,” she responded to the Chief of Security’s inquiry. “The Orions hit Deck 5, aft. We’re assessing the damage.”

Turning to Aaron,”Captain,” she began, her voice steady despite the chaos around them, “Have you ever heard of Orions using some kind of advanced cloaking technology or sensor scramblers?” She knew Aaron had been doing this much longer than she had and figured it was time to rely on his expertise at the moment.

Pilar glanced at the helm and tactical officers. “When those systems come back online, take us to warp and we need to recalibrate our sensors to pick up on any irregularities. There might be a faint energy signature or a slight gravitational disturbance that we can track.”

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

“Not that I’m aware of Commander. Doesn’t mean they couldn’t have picked up some tech with the fall of Romulus. But we aren’t that far out from the core of the Federation. You’d think we’d have heard something sooner if they had started using those techniques.”

Vincent entered the bridge with a cadet by his side, both armed with medical supplies and scanners. “Captain, sickbay has deployed medical teams and is standing by. Is everyone alright here?” he asked, his eyes sweeping the room to assess the situation.

“I’m fine Lieutenant,” Aaron said as he looked around the bridge taking a count of the bridge crew. “What’s the count so far?”

Capt Foley - CO

So far, everyone on the bridge seemed okay- no noticeable injuries.

~Mischief Maker

With not visible signs of distress, at least physically Vincent relaxed knowing the senior officer and cadets would be able to manage the other casualty hot spots on the ship, so decided to remain on the bridge concerned at the conversations happening around him, why would the Orions attack? He thought to himself.

Pilar took a deep breath, allowing herself a moment to gather her thoughts. The crew seemed uninjured, and that was a relief. But her mind was racing from the surprise attack. If the Orions had indeed acquired advanced cloaking or sensor scrambling technology, it could mean a significant shift in the balance of power.

She turned her attention to the status displays, her fingers tapping the console hard, as she read the damage reports and systems statuses. “Lieutenant Zunara and Lieutenant Lis, how is our cargo?”

=/\= “It appears unharmed, ma’am, I’ll have my people scan the contents after we assess our labs,” =/\= Demil replied.

Lieutenant Tor, I need a full report on the structural integrity of Deck 5. Prioritize repairs on life support and containment fields.”

Pilar’s eyes narrowed as she considered their options. “Captain, if the Orions are using cloaking technology, we need to adapt quickly. We can’t afford to be caught off guard again. If they hit us once, they’ll try it again. We need to be ready.”

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

“I know Commander, and we are sitting ducks here right now. But with the attack to our power systems, we can’t do anything until the systems reset.”

It was definitely up there when it came to worst case scenarios. There wasn’t much they could do except wait for the Orions to come back around.

“Priorities. Once systems get back online, we need to get moving again. Second, have Lieutenant Lis work on reviewing whatever sensor data we were able to gather. See if we can figure out how they were able to sneak up on us.”

Pilar nodded, acknowledging the captain’s orders and the reality of their situation. “We’ll be ready, Captain,” Pilar said. She turned to the CMO, after her eyes scanned each face on the bridge. “Lieutenant Yancey, continue coordinating with medical teams. We need to ensure everyone receives proper care.”

Then she gave Lis and Tor orders through comms, “Lieutenant Lis, since the cargo is fine, you can review senor data and see if we can determine how the Orions manage to catch us off guard, and Lieutenant Tor, coordinate getting the systems are back online, then make sure repairs on Deck 5 are underway afterwards.”

=/\= “Aye, Ma’am. On my way to the labs,” =/\= Demil replied.

=^=Foley to Zunara. Deploy security teams to all critical areas of the ship.=^=

“In the meantime Commander, we just have to hope that the Orions don’t swing back around on us.”

As the crew busied themselves with their tasks, Pilar wondered how had the Orions managed to evade their sensors so effectively? It was a puzzle they needed to solve, and quickly. Their survival on the next attack depended on it.

Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)

OOC: Sorry for the late reply folks, RL has been busy, someone catch me up?

-Kieron-

OOC: Still dealing with the Orion attack. Your character is in the Cargo bay and received info and orders there. ~Linds

Aaron tapped his fingers, waiting impatiently for the systems to be restored. This was definitely the worst part, just sitting here waiting for the Orions to turn the corner and come back for them.

=^=Foley to Engineering. How are we looking Chief?=^=
