Idos tugged at the collar of his newly assigned cadet uniform while making his way through the corridor. He wasn’t used to wearing such restrictive clothing. During his medical training on Bajor, his class and instructors wore a more loose-fitting robe as to not hinder mobility, not to mention that it made life just a bit easier in comfortable clothing during the hefty schedule that was expected.

The discomfort of the uniform wasn’t news to him, it was just his first time experiencing it personally.

An agreement was made a number of years ago that a small group of civilian medical students, selected by hand by the Bajoran Health Ministry, were given the opportunity to train aboard the Starfleet Starbase 133. Being a hub, the extra traffic coming and going from the base had begun to stretch the station medical staff a bit too far. Being able to offload less severe medical issues to medical students in return for training aboard a highly advanced installation made for a mutually beneficial agreement.

Idos was one of the lucky few to be selected for the prestigious program; receiving benefits he couldn’t have imagined. Being able to watch from the gallery, surgeries and procedures that he’d only read about, interaction with species that he’d never encountered on Bajor, and so many more,turned out to be tremendously informative.

During his two years on Starbase 133, Idos overheard many conversations about newly commissioned officers and cadets alike lamenting over their uniforms. Idos never gave it much thought until the moment he’d finished putting on his own. The stiff uniform did have one redeeming quality. It kept his back straight. Posture was quite a bit more important than most people gave it credit for.

Following the mental map that he’d made during his voyage to the Challenger, Idos finally found himself at the doors to the main sickbay.

Standing before the doors for just a few seconds, he silently sent a prayer to the Prophets for strength and stepped inside. Upon entering, various nurses and patients were about. Idos made sure to step away from the doors as to not block the entrance in case anyone needing sickbay’s services came in.

He waited a few moments before flagging down a passing nurse and asked where he could find his new supervisor, Doctor Rahm. He was directed to an office toward the back of sickbay and he made his way over, hesitating for just a second longer before pushing the button for the chime.
