Counseling was always difficult when one of her patients had lost a family member. Sometimes she felt the urge to cry along with them. Pilar got up, grabbed tissues, walked over, and offered them to the Ensign as he sat down. “A great Queen from Earth once said “Grief is the price we pay for love.”, I can tell how much you loved your father and what he meant to you. Do not be ashamed to cry. Eventually, those tears will turn to only joyful memories of your father. In the meantime, I would have you try to focus on all those wonderful memories and not on the way he died or the what ifs.” She briefly placed her hand on his shoulder before she went back to her seat, “I would like to change the subject just a little. What was your motivation for joining Starfleet? Was it because your father was enlisted? If so, then tell me what does George Haroon, ” she pointed at the Cadet, “hope to accomplish during his service? ” The intention of the question was to determine what motivations, besides that of wanting to be like his father or follow in his footsteps, would keep the young Cadet enlisted in Starfleet.

“Thank you.” George said as he gladly took the tissues. blew his nose, and wiped his eyes. “My father was some of it, but I was always fascinated by starships when I was younger. I got into science, mostly astronomy because space, just like starships, fascinates me. That and I’ve always wanted to go ‘where no one has gone before’.”

George was certainly going to like his time on the Challenger.

“I guess what I hope to accomplish is to just explore and study the stars. They’ve always been my favorite thing to study.”
