Once Taya had met with her department head in security, she was sent to sickbay for a medical evaluation. She had one two weeks ago before leaving Earth, but she supposed the CMO wanted to run one for their own records. Starfleet was redundantly thorough, if anything.

Stepping into sickbay, Taya caught the attention of a passing nurse.

“Hi. I just came on board, so I’m here for a physical. Who do I see for that?”

Hearing the standard ‘woosh’ of the Sickbay doors opening, Alex’s ears perked up and he glanced over from his stack of medical files to see if an interesting case had just landed in his lap.

“C’mon Andorain Measles… nope just a cadet looking for a check in/check up” He thought to himself with a wry grin. He stood up and headed over, scooping up a medical tricorder and PaDD as he passed the equipment trolley.

“Hello there, you can see me for a physical, I’m Doctor McCall, I have the evening shift today. ” Alex said, his upper-middle class British accent, with just a slight twinge of hs native Edinborough, was warm and friendly.

“Why don’t you hop up on the Biobed here and give me your name so that I can open the file?” He said, waving his free hand towards the closest vacant bed space whilst giving the PaDD a slight flourish with the other.

“I’m Cadet Taya Lenwa.” She gave her serial number as she sat on the medical bed.

“Hello, Taya, may I call you Taya?” Asked Alex as he inputted the data into his PaDD to call up the relevent files.

“Sure,” said Taya.

“So,” He asked, as he started to run the biobed through the standard battery of physical tests, “Any particular long term injuries or recent illnesses I should know about? Any symptoms including, coughs, sneezing or blue coloured skin pigment changes?” He added, a faintly detectable note of hope in his voice....

Taya thought she sensed something in Doctor McCall’s voice, but she wasn’t sure, so she dismissed it. He was young, so maybe he was eager to learn, just as she was.

“Nope,” said Taya. “As you Humans say, I’m healthy as a horse.” She chuckled, having no idea who invented that.

“And no doubt ‘as fit as a butchers dog’ too,” Said Alex with a chuckle of his own, throwing in the British version of that particular saying for good measure.

He glanced at the readings on his PaDD as the biobed completed it’s inital full body scan and frowned slightly at the results, dialing in a follow up higher resoloution scan. The bed hummed and the faint blue light of the scanning beam reappeared, focusing on the cranium of the patient as it resumed.

Taya noticed the doctor’s reaction at seeing the results of her medical scan. She actually expected it. He seemed so perplexed, he did another one more detailed than the first. She sat unmoving, waiting for it to finish.

“I was injured when I was a girl. I fell out of a tree and hit my head.”

Alex nodded and pressed a few buttons on his PaDD, causing a slightly translucent image of the cadets head to appear in mid air in front of her. Another couple of button presses caused the image to be stripped back to show a 3D model of Taya’s skull which began to rotate slowly.

“Must have been a fairly major fall from the look of this, these lines here….” Alex paused to point out some faint lines on the scan with his stylus

“…. Are indicative of a well healed comminuted skull fracture. Did you have, or have you subsequently had, any symptoms from this? Any loss of motor skills such as speech, vision, hearing, or taste? Any changes in behaviour or personality?”
