Okay, there is no real way I can show this until it happens and unfortunately, it does happen especially in threads with multiple people or because of technology. The important thing is how to fix it which is simple.

“I am going to create a post and then split it and show how to fix it,” said Kate standing at the smart board with her pointer. Secretly she hated when posts split but who didn’t. It was just something that happened and we all have to fix it from time to time.

OOC: I am showing how to fix it and then I will explain it all ~ Kate

IC:
“Oh shoot this is exactly how a split post happens,” she looked at the main page and saw that her post and the other player’s post did not follow each other but were stacked on top of each other.

“This is never going to do. We have to fix this. Lucky for is it is super simple.”

“Blah blah blah techno-babble, blah blah, prime directive?” Replied Alex, a quizzical look on his face, wondering if his chief had finally gone mad, and whether he still had the closest stardate in the department pool….

So for the record, I am not sure how is the best way to teach this so bear with me. If you are still confused after my explanation just message me.

So when Alex and I split the post, if you look at the board you will see it says :

So what happens as you can tell by clicking on the three posts in order is that when you click on my post it will be fine and what you expect. You see what I wrote in reply; however, when you click next in the location it will show Alex’s post and my post has “disappeared” from the chain. The post didn’t actually disappear but anyone posting after Alex will no longer be able to read my post in the chain so my information is lost. In a main sim this can cause lots of confusion and we don’t ever want to lose someone else’s writing.

In order to fix it what you need to do is click on the last post in the thread and re-reply. In our example that would be Alex’s post.

Once you are in his post you find the spot where my information “disappeared”. In that spot you would add the OOC and IC like we talked about before and then cut and paste the other person’s information back in. Usually, the OOC will say something like OOC: Fixing a split ~ Kate. You would then add the IC so anyone reading knows where the text picks back up.
