“Now that the staff has all arrived,” she began, with a slight look at the counselor, “let us begin. First, I would like to recognize Henry Rodier, who has been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and Chief of Security of the USS Challenger following his graduation from Starfleet Academy.” Thankfully, Rodier had already received his promotion before this, as one of the complications of the hot tub graduation ceremony was that it was very difficult to pass the traditional small box of pips to each graduate.

Miya applauded in the Bajoran style, clapping the back of one hand into her palm rather than the strange palms-together gesture favoured by humans, and grinned at her neighbour. “Congratulations, sir!” Maintaining the formalities of rank while wearing swimming costumes was unusual, to be sure, but Miya felt it was better to be cautious.

Vanessa stopped blowing bubbles in the water to applaud. “Congrats Stan!” she called out, a big smile on her face.

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

Rodier didn’t address Lofton, but gave her some poorly-disguised side-eye.

Having fetched another glass of champagne, Dael set it down to applaud. “Congratulations Lieutenant!” he emphasized towards the newly appointed CSO with a grin. He only hoped the incident where the new Security Chief stumbled upon some tribbles was not habit forming. The last thing Dael needed was more of those fuzzballs mucking up the works.

The doors of the hot tubes suddenly opened, revealing Aaron, with a swimsuit and the upper part of his uniform. He was sweating and breathing heavily : “Sor-uf… Sorry for being late!Oof… I was taking a nap and forget about the hour.” He stepped in, and looked at Lieutenant Anders ” Still, Congrats Lieutenant!”, he said, smiling at him.

Emmy waited impatiently for the regular congratulations to go around, giving the newly minted Chief of Security a few moments to thank the group before moving on to the next graduate.

“Thank you all!” Henry replied, with a shy glance at Miya and a huge grin on his face. He couldn’t help but find it ironic his formal promotion announcement was coming at a time when he was thoroughly out-of-uniform, but he wasn’t particularly peeved. He had wanted to say something momentous, or at least funny, but in the moment it seemed like this was enough.

Grabbing a glass of water, Alison held it out for Cadet Williams. “It’s okay Cadet, just take a couple of deep breaths.”

She had to try and keep herself from laughing, she had been caught over sleeping a few times back at the Academy.

Aaron looked at the Lieutenant: “Thank you”, he said, a bit embarrassed about his entrance. He then looked at his surrounding, discovering the hot tubes. So that the well-famous hot tubes, he thought. It didn’t steal his reputation.

He then approached Lieutenant Jr. Rodier. “I don’t think I forget to congratulate you on your promotion Lieutenant. Congrats !”, he said, offering to him his hand.

Henry reached up, shaking the Cadet’s hand. He then glanced over at Davis. “Of course, I don’t believe I’m the only person moving on, Captain. So please, if there are others, don’t let me steal the show.”

Miya grinned at Aaron. At least being late for a hot tub graduation party wasn’t as serious as being late for, say, a briefing! “C’mon, Aaron - join us!” she murmured, scooting sideways towards Lt Rodier and patting the spot on the edge of the hot tub which she’d just freed up for her fellow medical cadet.

“Sorry, sir - hope you don’t mind!” she added, glancing at the tall security chief with an apologetic smile. By the Prophets, this graduation ceremony wasn’t what she’d expected! And it was all the better for it .....

She waggled her feet back and forwards in the bubbling water, taking care not to splash anyone. At least the air in the hot tub room was warm and humid - just as well, given the number of semi-clothed people either sitting on the side of the tub, like her, or reclining in the pool itself. Hopefully she’d be able to slip into the water once the graduation itself was over.

As the other crewmembers congratulated the new Chief of Security, Emmy began to realize that she was going to be unable to continue to conduct the graduation from the warmth of the hot tub. With a slight sigh, she turned to kneel on the bench she had been reclined on and then gracefully stepped out of the bubbles, reaching out to collect the light pink robe waiting for her beside the tub. She neatly tied it around her body and collected her glass, oblivious to the notion that the Commanding Officer of a Starfleet ship conducting an official ceremony in a fluffy pink terrycloth robe was… not standard, to say the least. Finding a spot near the side of the room where she had a good view of the room, she continued.

“Cadet Carmen Luisa Parker-Cawlyns, come forward.”
