COS’s Office Cadet Rodriguez reporting for Duty.
OOC: Welcome to the Challenger! Glad to have another engineer on the team! Right now I’m writing out of character (OOC), which is shown at the beginning of this post by the distinguishing “OOC:”, meaning this is just plain old me talking. You’ll see a similar one following this of me responding to your character but this time in character (IC) as my character here on the Challenger. I’m looking forward to getting to know your character and helping you get a feel for the club and ensuring you have a great time and want to keep coming back for more! One quick note, here when we roleplay, we write our posts in third person past tense, think of it like writing in a Star Trek novel for your character, and we sign off on our posts, just so things don’t get confusing with who said what. Don’t worry, this is all new, and was for me at one point too. I will give examples in response to your character.
IC: Dael stood over a console in Main Engineering as one of the cadets was underneath it on his back, bundled in cords of EPS conduits. He ran his hand through slightly disheveled brown hair as his black iris eyes looked to the power outputs that were reading off the screen. He gave a grunt of satisfaction and leaned over to the man on the floor.
“That’s it, Cadet, just reroute that last junction and we’ll have this thing working like it just came off the shipyard.” he said to the man. He missed the cadet’s reply though as an unfamiliar feeling entered into the Betazoid’s mental pathways. He turned and saw the source of the new registering thought patterns, a new cadet heading his way. “I think you’ve got it from here Cadet, just give a shout if you need something.” he said off handed to the prone figure and made his way over to the approaching cadet. He straightened out his uniform, using the gesture to wipe whatever work stains had been on his hands off onto the fabric and extended his hand. He realized that it wasn’t probably the most formal greeting for a senior officer to give, but for new cadets he knew the experience of being on a starship could be overwhelming sometimes and a little friendliness at first didn’t hurt.
“Lt. Stadi, Chief Engineer here on the Challenger, you must be one of the new engineering cadets coming in from our last drydock. Cadet Rodriguez you said? Pleasure to meet you. Here, let’s step into my office for a moment, out of the way”
With that he walked towards an open door, leading towards a small desk with a console. Behind the desk sat a chair that Dael sat in, and on the wall behind him a screen similar to the one in Main Engineering that showed the profile of the Challenger, complete with an up to date status of the ship. A few toolkits were hung nearby on the right wall, along with a spare uniform and another engineering console took up most of the left. The whole space was small and seemed rather utilitarian, focused on the task of keeping the Challenger running, and not one that Dael seemed to occupy most of the time. The only non-Engineering item that could be seen was a small orb on the desk, that seemed to cave in on itself but also expand out depending on how you looked at it, inside a shifting of colors made abstract patterns.
After he sat down, Dael turned his black eyes to the new cadet and tried to give a warm smile. He was better with fixing things than people, despite being Betazoid, but he was getting better.
“Please sit Cadet.” He began making some key entries to the console on his desk, pulling up the new personnel files that the Academy had sent his way. “What brings you to a career in Starfleet as an engineer, Ms. Rodriguez?”
-Lt. jg Dael Stadi, Chief Engineer
