Maybe Gordon would be able to figure this stuff out. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : A moment later the door to the science lab opened up and an average sized man entered with a noticeable limp on his left side. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Hello Commander, what can humble engineer do for you in the science lab?” He asked jovelly as he approached the XO. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : -Gordon, CE : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The transporter chief sent the buffer. To the engineer it would look pretty common, The first half of the top portion was the standard header of the packet, the part that was encrypted and held the information about what the package was and how to put it together again. The footer was of course the checksum that made sure everything was, in fact, put together the right way to avoid pesky transporter malfunctions. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The middle though, that is where the jucy information was kept, but of course it was also encrypted to avoid issues mid transmition. Because of the encryption not a lot of data is easily readable however the following chimicals are found in various quantities: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Zinc : : : : : : : : : Silica : : : : : : : : : Ethyl acetate : : : : : : : : : Carbon : : : : : : : : : Isopropyl alcohol : : : : : : : : : Butanol : : : : : : : : : Copper : : : : : : : : : Amyl alcohol : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Well Chief, we are short a science chief right now, and the Captain thought you might be able to help make sense of this information.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Max brought up the data on the screen that had been sent over. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “So we’ve got a mystery box that Command just sent us. It’s completely sealed, and we don’t have a way of opening it without them knowing. But they transported it over.... So we get to put together the puzzle from the transporter log and see what it is we have. Think you are up for the task?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The door slid open as Surra walked into the science lab. After briefly evaluating the room with her eyes, she immediately noticed two gentlemen looking intently at a computer screen. She put her hands behind her back, forced a smile, walked toward them as she introduced herself, “Commander, Lieutenant. Almikaz reporting for duty. I am your new Chief Science Officer.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lieut. Almikaz (CSO) : : : : : : : : : : : : “Well it looks like command can read our minds,” Max said chuckling. : : : : : : : : : : : : “Well Lieutenant, we got a bit of a quandary here. We’ve got a box, we need to move it, and have no idea what is inside of it. Our only clue is this transporter log. You think you can help sort this out with us? We need to figure this out ASAP. The Cap wants to know what we are shipping, before it potentially goes boom on us.” : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : Surra nodded at the Commander as she stepped in between the two gentlemen and began to carefully review the transporter log. She noted the contents of the box: zinc, silica, ethyl acetate, carbon, isopropyl and amyl alcohol, butanol, as well as copper. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : After a few minutes she looked at the Commander and said, “Commander, my preliminary assumption is that the various chemicals that are contained within the object are its energy source, with the zinc and copper acting as conductors.” Surra tapped and scrolled on the computer screen as she continued, “In the past, a few centuries ago, there was considerable interest in ethanol production to move away from renewable natural sources such as gasoline, coal, and natural gas. The chemicals that are contained within the box were sometimes combined together and used as an alternative energy source to power small machines, for example shuttles and satellites.” She turned and looked at the Commander, “I will have to study it a little more but I think we are essentially looking at some type of fuel cell.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lieut. Almikaz (CSO) : : : : : : : : “If it’s a fuel cell, than it would have to fuel for something small and, from the look of this, older technology. Do you know where we are going, might help explain this cargo?” Gordon asked, looking at the list. : : : : : : : : -Gordon, CE : : : : : : “Good question Lieutenant. Let’s see.” : : : : : : Max reached over and tapped a command into the computer bringing up the logs of the conversation with the transmitted navigational coordinates. : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : The Challenger is headed to Kazis IX to deliver a top secret cargo to one Captain Steenson of a listening post near where the Romulan, Klingon, and Federation territories meet. : : : : GM Wombat : : Max looked at the coordinates and cursed. : : “Well that doesn’t give me any hope. Looks like we are going into the breach.” : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“Joy,” Gordon murrmered. “Yeah lets send a bunch of cadets to the tri-state area, with secret cargo, what could possible go wrong.”

:
: Surra stood there with an unmistakable frown on her face. She was confused. “Okay, so maybe I am missing something. Lieutenant and Commander, respectfully, please tell me what do you think the relation is between the ship’s destination coordinates and this cargo. We are not even sure what it is, yet.”
:
: Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

“Well Lieutenant, it is never a good sign when you are heading towards both the Romulan and Klingon borders at the same time. It is definitely a high tension area. Who knows what the tech might actually be. Listening device, explosive, or it might just be a relic. But my bet is that it isn’t going to that listening post for just no reason at all. The brass is up to something, they always are.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“Agreed, Sir. And I also agree with you it could be some type of listening device. However based on the components of it, I highly doubt it’s an explosive. A lot of the chemicals neutralize each other and actually act as an energy source. This is why I believe it to be some type of battery or fuel cell.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

“Maybe we should put into an isolation field, see what happens?” Gordon suggested.

-Gordon, CE

“I am going to suggest we not do that at the moment.,” Surra said to the chief engineer, “I would like to run more tests on it.”

Lieut. Almikaz (CSO)

The NE scientists all stand around looking at Almikaz waiting further instructions on what tests, exactly, the DH wants run.
