The Captain glanced over at his XO, and then back to the screen. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “What’s in the cargo?” Samuel asked, making sure to ask the important questions. After all, he had an entire Cadet class aboard and their safety was his top priority. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Weir (CO) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Above your pay-grade to know, I am afraid,” the man on the other end says, steepling his fingers as he speaks, “What I can tell you is that Captain Steenson is waiting for you. I’ll have the box transferred shortly. Quite simply, Captain, it is a cargo run. Your cadets can’t possibly be so bad as to screw this up?” He leans in, “Or do I need to talk to the Commandant about finding a more suitable alternative?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I’m not worried about the Cadets,” Max grumbled under his breath. The favorite last words of the brass, that it would be a simple run, just a cargo run.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “There’s something he’s not telling us.” Captain Weir whispered to his XO before turning back to the Admiral : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Very well, sir.” Samuel stated. “Once the cargo is transferred, give us the coordinates and we’ll be on our way.” Weir wasn’t too fond of putting Cadets in harms way on their first mission, but since the Federation was spread too thin… Starfleet needed the extra man power to do their dirty work. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Weir (CO) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Excellent,” the fleet captain says before the signal cuts out. A short time later the bridge gets a notification that a large, secured, container has been beamed into one of the cargo bays. The helm receives the coordinates just past Kazis IX, where the three great powers of the beta quadrant meet. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair remained silent during the exchange, but frowned when he heard of a cargo of “above your pay grade” was beamed into the ship. As the comms cut out, Sinclair tapped his comms and said =/\= Security to Transporter Room. Send me the transporter log of the just-arrived container. =/\= Maybe the buffer data would give them an idea of what was now on their ship. Royal looked at the Captain and XO and said “Apologies if I’m jumping the gun, Sirs. I just want to make sure we aren’t transporting anything… ‘risk-positive’, shall we say?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair, CoS : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I like that phrase, risk-positive, I’m going to have to remember that,” Max said as he turned towards Sinclair. “Also, put a containment field around it. Just in case.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Aye, Commander.” Sinclair replied and ordered the containment field placed as indicated. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair, CoS : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =/\= Sir, seems to be traces of various metals, silica, ethanol, and some trace amounts of various other elements,=/\= the transporter room responds, =/\= Do you want the whole buffer log, sir?=/\= : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =/\= Aye, send it. =/\= Sinclair replied. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “That doesn’t really tell me anything other than the object is metal…” Weir said. The Captain sighed and looked over at his XO. ” Without a Science Chief, you and the Chief Engineer will have to take lead on reviewing the logs.” Samuel was usually against sticking his nose where it shouldn’t be, but after the last mission.... he wasn’t going to sit idle. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Were the coordinates sent over?” Sam asked, looking at Sinclair. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Weir (CO) : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I’ll see what we can dig up Captain.” Max wasn’t super confident on how he was going to be able to help. He had the basic science courses in the Academy, but that was about it. But another set of eyes usually didn’t hurt. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =^= Harkness to Gordon. Meet me in Science Lab 1, we have a new mission and we have a few questions to figure out about it first. =^= : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr. Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =^=On my way sir.=^= : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : -Gordon, CE : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I’ll send the buffer log to the Lab, Commander.” Sinclair added as the information began coming into his station. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair, CoS : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The specific coordinates had been transmitted to navigation, cargo was loaded, and from a mission stand point the challenger was ready to get underway. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Thank you Lieutenant,” Max said as he walked off the bridge and to the Science Lab. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Cmdr Harkness - XO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Captain watched as his First Officer left the Bridge, then turned to his Helmsman. “Helm, you should have the coordinates now, engage at warp 4 when ready.” Sam stated before resuming his attention back to the view screen. The CO had a lot to think over before they made it to their destination. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : CO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Casen entered the bridge shortly after with a smile on his face. “Captain. I heard about some cargo. Anything I need to know?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lieutenant Casen, CoS : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : And so our Academy ship departs for its next big adventure! : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : In summary: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The Challenger is headed to Kazis IX to deliver a top secret cargo to one Captain Steenson of a listening post near where the Romulan, Klingon, and Federation territories meet. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The transporter logs have been dumped and are being analyzed in the science lab to see what could possibly be in this mysterious box. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : GM Wombat : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Weir shrugged. “My guess is some top secret cargo, but I feel as if it’s more personal.....” The Captain stated, turning to his Security Chief. “I would post a security detail outside of the cargo bay just in case things get a bit hairy.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Weir (CO) : : : : : : : : : : : : “Yes, sir. I’ll have two officers standing near it at all times. What do you think they don’t want us to know?” He asked quietly as to not start rumors on the ship. : : : : : : : : : : : : Lieutenant (j.g.) Casen CoS : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair came onto the bridge, the blue uniform and Lt. Cmdr. pips still looking strange on the former Security Chief… at least to him. He looked at Casen and nodded and smiled. He then made his way to Weir. “Sir. Counselor reporting. Any insight I can give, please don’t hesitate to ask.” he said with a crooked smile. The inter-personal aspect of his new job, counseling and providing mental health services to individual crew members, didn’t phase him in the slightest. It was the more esoteric part of the Counselor’s job that both excited and terrified him: analyzing intent and possible reactions, which he had done everyday while in security, but now knowing that his interpretation and advice would go on the record and specifically to the Captain and Executive officer was a bit… daunting. : : : : : : : : : : Sinclair, CNS : : : : : : : : The Captain shook his head at the COS. He knew Starfleet was hiding something, but that would be revealed later. Weir turned towards the Counselor. “Take a look at the transcripts from our transmission earlier, see if you can pull up anything on the officer.” Samuel wasn’t sure whether the officer was a Fleet Captain or Admiral, that part wasn’t too important though. : : : : : : : : Weir (CO) : : : : : : Sinclair replayed the transcripts of the brief exchange. “Tacit. Used to not being questioned. Couches aggression in terms of rank structure, using his office and those of superiors a foil against prying. Used to getting his own way. His body language indicates a belief he is operating from a position of tactical or circumstantial superiority. See how he steeples his fingers when he brings up the Commandant? That could be a subconscious way of masking his face, usually indicative of deception. I can’t of course be one hundred percent certain, but all signs point to him hiding something, Captain.” Once he finished his analysis of the transcript, he began searching for any information on the officer in question. : : : : : : Sinclair, CNS : : : : Assuming you are referencing the Fleet Captain that issued the order you will find the following information: : : : : Fleet Captain K’hal : : Race: Human/Romulan : : Current Posting: Special Projects Division, Starfleet Engineering Corps. : : : : Previous Postings: : : USS Endeavor, CO : : USS Draco, XO : : USS Polaris, Engineer : : : : Awards: : : Cochrane Medal of Excellence : : Starfleet Award of Valor : : Various Service Ribbons : : : : : : GM Wombat : : Sinclair compiled the dossier and forwarded it to Weir without saying anything. : : Sinclair, CNS Looks like he took the fast track. The Captain thought to himself as he looked over the Fleet Captain’s file. “Do we have any information about his previous missions, or what projects he’s been working on?” Weir asked. He knew they’d probably be able to find some clues from what the man was involved with in the past. Weir (CO)

Digging even further into the past of the Fleet Captain you will find a long and colorful history, his longest posting on the Endeavor (When it was a main fleet ship) rising up from regular engineer all the way to her CO. It appears he was offered a position in Special Projects where he has been for the last five or so years, though recently he took on additional responsibilities in the Engineering Courses in the Academy specifically in Artificial Intelligence and environmental systems.

Samuel looked over the Fleet Captain’s profile and sighed. “Looks like we’ll be running into a classified roadblock if we continue our search.” Turning his attention to the Helmsman, the CO stood up.

“Helm, how long until we reach our destination?” He asked.

Weir (CO)

“Umm,” the helmsman says looking down at his console, “At warp four we are about a week, sir. Shouldn’t take much longer than that.” The man looks back over his shoulder at the captain and adds, “And no reports of activity around the space. All quiet.”
