Edict 12
I’m not sure that this needs to be an edict, as I have been unable to find a specific edict that this would definitely amend. However, just to be complete, here goes.
Kim Sandstrom (aka Kimpaa, aka Kim McOwen) was banned from STF in December 1998 in Edict Bourdaa-22. There were a host of reasons given that can be referenced in that edict. This edict does not reverse that ban. However, Sam Moritz, who was apparently an acquaintance of Kim’s, was also affected by this.
While the original edict didn’t state so explicitly, the apparent interpretation of that edict was to ban all accounts coming from Kim’s ISP. This was a completely justified interpretation given the circumstances.
Over the past several months, Sam has been petitioning me to be readmitted to STF. At first I told him I’d look into it hoping he would leave me alone. <wry grin> However, over the past months, he has provided some quite convincing evidence that he is who he says he is, and has been quite consistent in his retelling of his experience in and with STF.
At this point I see two possibilities. One, Sam was Kim (or vice versa) and did what he was accused of. Two, Sam was an innocent bystander. Regardless, I am not one (I hope) to condemn people for life for the indiscretions of their past. If Sam didn’t do anything wrong, readmission to STF is long overdue. If Sam did do something wrong (which I can’t completely rule out) he’s had over 30 months to atone for his sins (a longer sentence than many serve in prison for conviction of ‘real’ crimes against society). For these reasons, I do hereby direct Personnel Department to admit Sam when next he applies for membership.
And while I hate to end this on a potentially down note, I would advise Sam to make sure my trust has not been misplaced. Should there be any problems related to his readmission, I will not be afraid to admit my error in judgement and reverse this edict.
