Bad day
We almost made it the entire term without me having to write one of these edicts, but the events of the past few days have forced me to consider official sanctions against one member.
It was brought to my attention that Fleet Captain M. Bret Godfrey emailed the entire crew of the Paladin regarding a command decision. Since he is neither on the Paladin nor a member of the command staff of Fleet 6 or this club, he had no right to do so, and is in violation of our spam rules. I hereby demote M. Bret Godfrey from Fleet Captain to Lieutenant Commander. He is ineligible for promotion above this rank for the next 90 days.
Unfortunately, the content of that email is also of concern. He took Fleet 6 information that was clearly labeled as private, and made it public. It was neither his responsibility nor his place to do so. His actions complicated an already delicate situation, and clearly hurt quite a few people. I find these actions and attitudes conduct unbecoming an officer of his rank, and hereby demote M. Bret Godfrey from Lieutenant Commander to Lieutenant Junior Grade. He is ineligible for promotion above this rank for the next 30 days. All characters of his exceeding Lieutenant Junior Grade are to be demoted to this rank immediately.
I will state for the record that Bret was not rude or mean during any of these events, and that I believe he did not intend to cause the club or the Paladin harm, but that this is not the first time he has shown unbecoming conduct. It is for these reasons that I have not banned him, but only demoted him.
