All,
We have had some recent issues, that have brought other issues to light. As STF does not have the Operator manpower to Police the individual ship chats servers. At this time any chat that bears a ship name, or other STF intellectual property moniker, will no longer be allowed, Captains please close any open Servers under your ships name or rename them. The reason is that people believe that these are official Star-Fleet.Com chats and that behavior tolerated in one is tolerated in another. Since that has become the case in multiple instances, as well as has brought a rise in official chat related behavior complaints, it has been decided to bring all ship chats to the main server.
To give examples of current behaviors that have been seen;
- Passing of Lewd or Pornographic images, or the intimation that they were going to be.
- Harassment of Members leaving a side server
- TOS breaching Language used in DMs about the rules as applied to side servers and the main server
- Harassment, and Lewd behavior towards members of the opposite sex
- Aggressive and Bullying practices
- Verbal Assault
There are actually more, but I do not think they all need to be listed explicitly.
I am not taking away your ability to have side chats via DMs or other servers, just those that are branded in ways that it could be assumed easily that they are officially attached to our site. As well, if a player opts to leave said chat, remember that they have that right, and should not be pestered about why they left if they do not wish to answer. If you want to have a personal chat please name it accordingly, instead of as a ship chat.
Secondly, as we cannot police DMs please remember to be polite and respectful, just because it would be okay with your friends does not mean that it okay with others. Language is something we all need to watch, trust me I have as much a struggle with this as anyone, It is one of the reasons I rarely hop on voice chat, I understand my tendency towards vulgarity in casual everyday speech. Instead of offending people I choose to not expose myself to that as an issue. It is even easier to do when you are typing as you have the ability to edit, delete, and rewrite before you hit submit.
Instead of separate channels after discussion with TECH we can offer sub-channels that can be moderated mostly by the Bot System but a PM to an OP can get eyes on an issue. If you wish a sub channel added please contact your command staff about having them contact TECH to have this completed. At this time it takes two requestors to have a channel created, unless it is at the request of a Department Director, or Executive Assistant for Governmental needs. For those that worry that these will clutter up your side bar, you will only see the ones that you have active unless you are a moderator.
Please remember we are a Star Trek club based around a love of the Shows, Movies and Books. We are a social club about making friends. Some will immediately come to the conclusion, there is no way to for us to stop you from having a server named whatever you chose. You are correct, except with this caveat, any server with a name tied to Star-Fleet.Com after this edict has gone into effect, will be considered a direct and conscious breach of the rules established by TECH for operation of Discord as a function of Star-Fleet.Com and could ultimately result in the loss of main chat privileges, and may escalate beyond according to gravitates if required . I am not saying that will be option A for first offenses, but it is an option for ALL offenses. As well you may not promote any side chat in the main chat, via email or DM that serves a specific STF purpous. I.E. Welcome to the USS Thunder Chicken, heres our chat, that will be considered a violation as well.
