The trek up the stream took an hour or two, most of the way the scans didnt reveal anything new, until they reached the nearby foothills where the stream narrowed rising up to be sourced from a two foot high waterfall about 4 feet wide, the force though was considerable from the small hole in the ground from an underground source. Scans here showed concentrations of likely bacterial in nature, which seemed odd at first, since directly scanning the water showed they werent present from the hole in the ground, it was something nearby maybe? Perhaps looking around for something that might hide or conceal something could be the cause?

There wasnt much to look through really, there was a narrow dark ledge behind the waterfall that one would have to get on their hands and knees, and a bit wet too to scan through, another spot was in the stream or perhaps under the water bubbling up from something hidden in the waterbed or rocks in the stream. Not much else was really sourcing into the water otherwise.

“Hmm. Weird.” Usus said as he went into the stream to scan the underwater spot but only going far enough to not be carried away from the stream. Once he got close he pulled out his tricorder and started to scan.

Scans of the ground for the stream were clean so far, the water was fairly warm actually not too cold nor hot/warm. The hum of the tricorder as he walked about the water mostly up to the near top of his boots but not sloshing over them was a relief. Then as he got to a spot about just ahead of the waterfall near an off color brown rock the scans of purity and such seemed to go blank. As if something was blocking all scans within a 5 inch circular radius of the brownish rock.

Visually he would see the rock, but scans showed nothing was there, not even water. How curious!

As the doctor was looking around, Marinna herself looked around the area, looking for anything unusual. While she had he tricorder out, she wasn’t staring at it, instead, she was looking around for anything that might indicate that anything had been moved, or may be new that wasn’t there before. She was about 20 feet away from the doctor, looking near some trees.

“Weird. Could it be some material that can jam tricordor signals? Marinna! Come look at this. We may have found something. Something very weird.”

Marinna looked up when the doctor called. She closed down her tricorder and walked towards him.

“Weird huh, good or bad?” She asked as she approached.

“Bad. Or good. This rock may or may not be a rock. It could be…” Usus took a long pause before he continued. “No. It can’t be. That would make no sense. If it was, why? Why make a jammer?”

If it was a jammer, it seemed mostly setup as a visual sort to disguise something. Which would mean the rare holographic technology of other species not human. Such technology was limited to only a few known types. The list for the team would be fairly short really there were of course the Xyrillians (OOC: Mem Alpha link here! http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Xyrillian ) first encountered by the NX-01 Enteprise before the Earth-Romulan war. The Klingons, Vulcans and Andorians were also known to have such though mainly limited to projections for the use of tactical training small moving targets. The last major known race also known to use such though notably for camouflage and distractions was the Romulan Star Empire. A tactic they had used pre-war to disguise drone ships, and during the war to confuse Coalition convoys into ambushes to great effect early on.

Given the colony had been a target during the war by the Romulans it might be they had discovered something left behind during that time for unknown reasons. If it was a holographic decoy targeted scans looking for magnetic variances in the region it projected should reveal its outline. Once located they could then use the phase variance to scan the spectrum to find the counter point of the projection to dis-align the projection field. The effort would need two tricorders working in close proximity to make happen and tuned carefully by both operators while doing so.

“I knew it. Romulans can’t keep from messing with us. We can scan to the disturbances that it must be causing and then mess with these.” He got up and had a look of pure hate and anger.

“Romulans? I’ve had enough of them too.” She pulled out her phaser and looked around. She did a quick visual scan before returning to look at the rock.

“I think I recognize this.” She said bending down to take a closer look. “The romulans and others, use this technology for camouflage, lets see if we can find any distortions.” She suggested, looking around.
