Naana bit her lip. It was necessary in the running of a successful government or military organisation that there are people higher up who can make the final decisions but the notion that some people’s voices could be ignored because they were in some elite group did not sit well with her.

”..In either case I think your staff if they want to make any impressions on the colony for good will should find a way to help out as I said before like your others went to do. Anyone who isnt, or you Lieutenant Commander Glindorsh could come with me for a small tour I suppose of the colony primary areas if you want?” she asked.

“That would be fine. If we are going to work together it only makes sense to see how you operate things around here.”

Nodding Carolina turned, leading the group down the semi-brick lined street. A few folks waved to the mayor or spoke with respect in passing to which she returned it, most though ignored the away team, not hostile or hating on them, just not feeling it worth to give them the time for notice. Moving down two blocks along the way the team could see shops hacking different types of hand crafted wares or food from wooden buildings. A cafe like joint called ‘Tom’s Shack’ seemed quite popular, the aroma of some kind of coffee would make even those hating it mouth’s water.

”..Ahh seems Tom is hard at work on one of his famous brews. His coffee is a mix of old stock from the convoy that lead us here, mixed with a local herbal blend that on its own makes a divine tasting tea. Throw it in with quality coffee beans or at least freeze dried packs and its got a punch that’ll keep you going for hours. Our one doctor says its properties are filling enough that in a pinch if needed it’d supply a good bit of a daily douse of vitamins, minerals, and proteins..” she said.

“Indeed,” Naana replied, sniffing the air as if trying to taste the coffee through the smell while looking around. “I imagine ending up on the wrong planet can’t have been easy for everyone. Its good that you were able to make use of what vegetation was lying around.”

”..Oh using the local wild life and plants was the easy part really. Even nicer was then finding many of our Earth based seeds and wild life stores in sleep took to the planet. Sadly many of those were killed or irradiated to the point of uselessness when the Romulans attacked the old colony site with nuclear waste bombs and ground assault by their troops..” She said.

Moving on then the group came to a larger white-grey building. A sign marking it as the ‘Colony Council Admin’ building. Walking down a flight of steps the sunken entrance opened into the underground floor hall. A receptionist of about 60s odd year old woman rose from behind a red tanned desk. “..Ah Mayor Carolina, the rest of the colony council is assembling in the main hall as we speak. These must be the Fleeter folks come calling yes?” she asked. Out of all the colonists so far seen or interacted with this older woman really shown the style of a late 1800s old woman in mannerisms. “..They look like such sweet darlings! Why if I was not so busy with filing that paper work for your latest proposal I’d go bake them one of my apple pies!” She said.

Naana started to feel her stomach rumble, that apple pie sounded delicious. She was about to speak when..

Clearing her throat Carolina was seen to blush a bit, “..Ah Mrs. Aubry, really that is not necessary. They and I will be quite busy as you can understand meeting with the council. Why don’t you return to your desk for now ok? Let me know when you got those papers filed into the cabinet by your desk.”

Blinking a moment the woman seemed confused but then smiled and nodded, “..Oh of course of course! Silly me, I keep loosing track of where I am at with it, I am quite so sorry it has taken me so long!” she said.

Disappointed, she just smiled back.

Nodding as the woman then returned to her desk, the group would notice another younger man by the left corner in a desk also doing paper work, nodding he opened the side for the main hall. As they passed the older woman’s desk they would see the papers there were marked with little smiley faces or other children’s drawings. The computer they thought she was working on was in fact just a small workstation salvaged from likely one of the ship wrecks in the system playing a loop of some kind of emulation of work. Once they were out of ear shot and into the small side hall leading to the council chambers Carolina explained. “..Mrs. Aubry is one of our oldest colony members, her awakening from cryo sleep had not gone as well as the rest of us, it’s left her a little.....addled in the mind. But she has enough sense to know she wants to keep working hard so we let her feel she is the greeter to the hall here. Mr Daniel back where we came in there is the actual one, and keeps an eye on Mrs. Aubry too when others come in or not. She basically files children’s drawings into different drawers as you saw that the children make for her at the school. It makes her feel good without us resorting to say something like a constant care home or such..” She said.

“That is very kind of you,” Naana replied. “I’m sure that a Coalition…Federation Doctor would be able to see to her afterwards.” And perhaps afterwards she can make that apple pie she thought.

”..Well not unless you think your medical folks can cure brain damage? I suppose it wouldnt hurt for someone to take a look but we got surely more important things to discuss first off.” She said.

Entering around a corner the trio came into a large rectangular room with a half moon shape contour overhead. Along the 9 row seat table were 6 men and 3 other women. All running from age of late 30s to early 50s. The folks they had met earlier were present but also some new faces. Taking her seat at the end of the table, Carolina gestured for the pair to sit in one of the six visitor chairs opposite the Council. “..Please sit..” she offered.

”..Councilors may I pres—..” She began but one of the new men present spoke interrupting.

”..Mayor Carolina surely these, folks can introduce themselves. I for one would prefer it rather then have you do so..” he said all eyes turning to let the pair speak first. “..As well as in their own words why they are here..”

“I can handle it,” Naana nodded at Carolina before turning to the others at the table. “I am Lt Cmdr Naana Bav Glindorsh, First Officer of the USS Unity. The last time this planet was contacted by us, we were the Coalition of Planets. I’m happy to say that after the war, Andoria, Vulcan, Earth and of course Tellar decided that intergrating further would make us stronger. So I am now here before you as a representative of the United Federation of Planets,” she then paused to gauge the reaction of the room.

“After the war with the Romulans, this planet became Independent. We are now here to see what assistance we can render and whether you would be interested in once again opening up diplomatic channels and joining us in the Federation.”
