Dealing with Starfleet was always a pain. So much protocol and hoops to jump through, let alone the amount of time he had to sit on his rear, grounded, waiting for the coordinates of the Prison Ship USS Swift. He sighed aloud. He hoped this shuttle would go faster. He wasn’t a fan of wasting time, but he was used to the feeling from being forced to be in hostile areas for extended periods of time waiting for the one opening to get away safely from behind enemy lines. His blip would most likely have appeared on their long range scanners now that he could identify the Swift on his. Time for more protocol .. At least this next part made sense to him. This wasn’t a typical ship or prison that you could just visit whenever you wanted. It was a secure ship and required a challenge and password phrase that, thankfully, they provided him with beforehand. He’d had to do this several times in his prior service with the Star Fleet Marine Corps so he could definitely appreciate it.

=^= USS Swift, this is the USS Rifter. Hope you’ve got those drinks in the window, I’ll be there shortly. =^=

=^=This is Swift, noted and welcome.=^= The comm was short and almost stoic, if one were barely listening.

He altered his course to trail them holding 50 kilometers away pending their response phrase for permission to dock.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

Gunther sighed. He actually bothered with the protocol for once, and didn’t even get the right response in return. Maybe these guys weren’t so bad after all?

The hangar doors soon opened to reveal the sleek interior of the Shuttlebay. It housed two other shuttles, however still had more than enough room for the Warden to set his vessel down for docking, until it could be returned to a base or otherwise, by the Colonel’s request. Above the bay, a man stood within the control room, a smile on his face as he waved to the shuttle. Even if the man couldn’t see him, he did it anyways.

It was almost natural for his approach with the small craft, as he entered the shuttle bay he rotated the shuttle with ease to have the front of the craft pointing back towards the shuttle bay doors. As it did it was easy to see from up close that it carried a heavier armament than the typical shuttle craft and the Star Fleet Marine Corps logo could be seen on the side. They were the ones that reached out to send him here, so they were the ones to give him the means of transportation.

Once the Warden was in and the bay doors had shut behind him, the oxygen slowly returned to the atmosphere of the room. And, outside waiting, was a rather odd Captain, tired albeit somewhat excited to finally have a Prison Warden.

As his shuttle door opened he stepped out and rotated his shoulders a bit. It was good to be out of the small craft and back somewhere we he could actually walk more than a few paces. He hopped off the side and walked over to the Captain, despite having similar rank he understood that she was ultimately in charge of the ship and him the prison. With somewhat of a smirk, he approached, “Ya look beat Cap’n, you just get up or is Starfleet actually workin’ ya hard enough?” It was completely a joke and was readily apparent as he extended his hand to shake hers.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

“When you spend your days running after a bunch of quick witted delinquents, you get fairly tired. You understand that, don’t you, Colonel?” She returned the friendly joke, her smile turning to the faintest smirk of amusement as she shook his hand, firmly. “Welcome to the Swift, Colonel Gunther. I am Captain Bov’ar Akarel, the commanding officer of this vessel.” She remarked, straightening her stance. “I trust you transport here was safe, well, aside from the natural tribulation we have out this way.”

Akarel knew that they had a similar rank, which meant that respect went both ways, for them. If anything, neither was in charge of the other. She was the commander of the Starfleet personnel, he made sure the Guards were in shape. More than one being superior, they were more like partners. After all, they were going to have to get used to each other, with the way this ship was.

Captn. Bov’ar

OOC: It might just be me, but I see the Warden and the Captain as being the same rank, just different assignments. So, they would be more on the basis of working together than ordering each other around. Sort of like when two Captains are working together or something like that. What do you think about that kind of dynamic?

Trinity

OOC: Totally agreed and I think the dynamic would be great!

He chuckled at her joke, glad that she could take one. There were some times interaction with different factions of Starfleet that didn’t go so well in his past. “Glad to be here Captain, feel free to just call me Gunther. Used to just my last name anyway, as for the trip? Eh, it was safe enough, considering. Though I did bring a dog with bigger fangs this time.” He pointed over his shoulder with his thumb back to the shuttle he just departed. “Why don’t we grab some coffee or something and go over everything? Haven’t quite been on a moving prison before, so this will be new.” He sighed slightly, “I’m sure there’s bound to be special protocols and what not.”

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

OOC: Awesome! This will be fun to play.

IC:
“There were protocol that I had never heard of prior to my assignment to the Swift, so, I would say there is definitely some things that you definitely haven’t heard of.” She offered a smile, taking one glance at the Shuttle, noting it was Marine. The Captain, herself, was a retired Marine, the sight of the shuttle bringing a certain light to her smile. “Follow me,” She motioned with her hand, turning on her heel before heading out from the entrance of the Shuttlebay and through the beige toned halls of the prison ship. Few people were about, as most were on shift or working overtime to tend to the recent issues. Offering them each solemn nods, Akarel led the man up to her office.

Captn. Bov’ar

“Figures .. there’s always something new.” He followed mostly silently with his hands swaying as they normally would making quiet notes on peoples faces, locations, along with remembering the route back to the shuttle bay that they had just come from. There were all just second nature to him now and it happened on it’s own. “So .. what’s the place like?” He inquired idly as they roamed the halls.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

“Unique,” Bov’ar began, stepping into the turbolift as she held the door for the opposing person. Once inside, she allowed it to shut and told the turbolift the proper deck, prior to continuing. “The atmosphere of this Starship is vastly different than any other of opposing class. It is stricter, often holding a more solemn air, as majority of its crew is from a Marine or otherwise militaristic background; including the Romulan Empire, Andorian Imperial Guard, Earth’s Armed Forced, Klingon Empire and the Federation Marines.” She glanced as an NE Ensign stepped in, dipping his head to them, but didn’t speak. “We hold the same ranks as any other ship, but happen to have Marines AND Prison Officers aboard. Thus, making this a high security vessel which many don’t last long upon, due to the intensity of it.” She rose her gaze to him, “The previous Warden was nearly killed by one of pour high class prisoners. After a few months of dealing with it, they finally said ‘No more..’ and quit..” She sighed, “They never last long.”

Captn. Bov’ar

He wasn’t shocked to hear about the violence, though he was pleased at the military background of most of the members of the crew. “Almost killed huh ..? Sounds like they already failed in their duties allowin’ that to happen.” He wasn’t one to sugar coat a hard truth. “I’m not surprised they quit after that. I am, however, glad that most of our contingent is prior military from different backgrounds. We could put that to use with a cross training regimen. Each branch has a distinctive combat technique that we could learn from, along with being prepared to counter it since the possibility is high for prisoner violence.” While waiting for the turbolift to reach the destination his hands found their way to his sides and he stuck his thumbs in his pants, resting his hands at his waist. “Speakin’ of military .. I heard that you’re a prior service Marine?”

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

“Yes, you are quite right. It was unfortunate that they had allowed such an occurrence to happen, but life is life and it must prevail.” She glanced over at the man, “You’re not much of a sugar-coater, are you?” She appreciated that in him, someone that would tell her how it is, instead of trying to find a way to make a bloody situation sound like sunshine and roses. She didn’t need any more Starfleet officers trying to make the universe out to be this splendid place, which it wasn’t. Sometimes, you just needed the fierceness of a Marine, to tell you how it is. Upon hearing the name of the branch of military, a faint smile came across her face. “First Lieutenant Jekku Akarel, at your service.” She brought up her hand and saluted to him, “Yes, I spent ten years in the Marine Corps.”

Captn. Bov’ar
CO

“Not at all. Best to tell it how it is, I’m sure you already know the reasoning as to why. Best way to get out of a situation is to know you’re in a situation to begin with.” He nodded with a grunt of approval and a smirk to her background confession. “Rah. Always good to have another motivator aboard.” He paused to return her salute before continuing. “Did 23 myself before I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Which group?” Before she could answer he grinned and put his hands up defensively. “Relax, relax, we’re both Marines, I won’t count your group against you Captain.”

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

OOC: Oof. So many things group can mean.. I’m gonna go with the first thing that popped into my mind. Lol! Correct this, if wrong!

IC:
“Twenty-three? You ought to be given a medal for being able to put up with the Marine Corps for that long.” There was pure facetiousness within her voice, as she was being sheerly sarcastic about it. However, there was underlying respect for the man who had spent a good portion of his life serving for the Federation and the Marines. “My group? As in my department? My detachment?” She asked, smirking at the defensiveness in his ways. ‘Group’ could mean various things, so she chose for the one that seemed most plausible. “If you mean my department, I began in general communications, on Earth; switched to Intelligence and served on Deep Space Nine as base Intel; and ended in a ‘normal’ detachment on Starbase Vermillion, working as a simple 1st lieutenant, tending to those enforcement situations under the command of Captn. Lockwood. You could say that I liked to try new things, one might suppose.” She glanced at him, “If that is what you meant, what about you? If not, mind clarifying what you meant?” Stepping from the Turbolift, she left him towards her office.

Captn. Bov’ar

He nodded following her history as she detailed it. “Not bad Captain, not bad.” He had left the question vague enough so that she would interpret it her own way, which usually gave the most interesting answers. “I was mostly infantry myself, though at one point I was a Comm’s Officer in a Scout Platoon.” He kind of shifted his cheek to the side, remembering it. “Didn’t like that too much. Started off in a regular detachment with the 25th Marines before shifting over to the Scouts. After being with the scouts I wanted to challenge myself so I tested for and spent the rest of my time in with the Rangers.” As he followed along behind he wondered how this Captain worked. He had a deep respect for any that served in the military, but he held those who were in the Star Fleet Marine Corps to an entirely different standard. He didn’t trust many people right away, but he felt it easier to begin to trust those from the SFMC. It was an unshakable bond between those that served.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

“Comms was always a bit peculiar, with the way it was run. Perhaps it was just the alien nature of mixing linguistics with military, despite it having been done consistently in the ancient Terran Military branches.” Bov’ar shook her head, prior to raising a brow at his mention of the Rangers, “No wonder you managed to obtain the position of Lt. Colonel; the Rangers are no joke. Impressive, you managed to sustain a long amount of time with them.” Akarel remarked. This Captain sas certainly unlike others before her. She was stricter, hardly taking crap from anyone. She led a tight ship, making certain that everyone knew exactly what they aere supposed to do. Her orders were clear, precise and without room for much question. It depended, merely whether or not the officer chose to follow them, correctly. It was the command of someone who had spent her life under strict protocol. Yet, beyond that, she was a truly sweet person. People simply didn’t get to see that, because it was reserved for her son.. And her son, only. “Come on in,” She motioned for the Colonel to enter the room, once she opened the door.

Captn. Bov’ar
CO

“All in a day’s work Captain, but you’re correct. There was just something too odd for me to deal with in Communications. That and it felt like there was just too many .. politics to be dealt with.” He shook his head, reinforcing the fact that he was glad to have never dealt with it again in his career. “It’s rough at the start with the Ranger’s of course, all those stories are true.” He hinted at some of the stories that were heard of the harsh training and initial treatment that they would receive if they were finally accepted into the Rangers. They would almost ostracize you for a while as if you didn’t belong, weren’t worthy, of being a Ranger. “Though, once you stick to your guns and hunker down, it becomes a family like no other, even within the Corps.” A certain reverence was in his tone that couldn’t be argued against when he spoke about it as he held out his hand as they reached the door. “Please, ladies first.” It wasn’t as much of a challenge, more of an offer and a courtesy. It seemed rather old fashioned, but he didn’t appear to have any issues being a gentleman as well.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

“You are simply full of surprises, aren’t you?” Bov’ar chuckled softly, inclining her head as of giving a remark of gratitude to him, for being such a gentlemen. She held a certain respect, for those untainted by the corruption of technology and advancement, for those who still held decency, despite times that could easily ward against it. Stepping into her office, she found a creature sitting at her desk. His curly brown locks were untidy and hardly brushed, his clothes, luckily, from that day as he wore a broad grin that reached even his pale brown eyes, matching the woman that the Colonel had been speaking with.

“Ikra! What did I tell you about coming in here during work hours?” There was a gentle reprimand in her voice, as she cast a glance towards the Colonel, as if apologizing. “You know this deck isn’t the safest to be upon, especially right now- and by jolly, your hair! Have I taught you nothing, boy?”

Ikra squirmed under his mother’s gentle, almost playful hands as she brushed his hair from his face, with her fingers. “Ah! Ma! Stop!” Ikra wrinkled his nose, trying to push her hands. Receiving only, ‘what’s the magic word?’ “PLEEEEAASEEE!

“Okay, good. Now, run along. I’m sure there are for more important things for you to attend to, than..” She glanced at her desk, “Drawing Vulcans, Andorians.. and.. Betazoids? On my PaDD.”

A small smirk grew on his face as it reminded him of the times when he would cause all sorts of mischief with his parents, though most of the time it was for bringing some random creature home. Some of which probably weren’t the safest and how he got them in the house is still unknown, even to him when thinking back.

“Okay, fine.” Ikra rolled his eyes, knowing it ticked his mom off, which showed in his smirk, once he had turned away from her. Glancing up at the Colonel, the young boy rose his eyebrows. “Hey! You look fancy. Who are you?”

Captn. and Sonny Bov’ar
CO and.. The nuisance

Gunther looked down at the young one and chuckled under his breath seeing the expression, but keeping quiet about it. “Why hello there.” He tugged his pant legs up just slightly as he crouched down in a squat to be somewhat on level with the boy. “Name’s Marco, I’m gonna be the new guy here workin’ with your mom.” He extended his hand to the child so that he could shake it, and to give a feeling of importance, though at the same time he didn’t quite catch the name, “It’s good to meet you, Mr …?”

“You’re gonna be working with my mom? Are you a bad guy? Or do you fight people? Like a Security Officer.. or like a Marine, Marco?” The boy asked, his pale brown gaze lighting up as he glanced back at his mom, who encouraged with with a gentle smile. Nodding, he shook the man’s hand, despite having one that was noticeably smaller than Marco’s. “I’m Bov’ar Ikra.”

He scrunched his eyebrows slightly and gave a solid nod of approval at the child’s handshake an introduction. “It’s good to meet you young sir. I’m gonna be helping the bad ones stay here where they belong. I’m surprised you know about the Marines! I used to be one too ya know!”

He peeked off to the side behind him at the Captain before coming back and whispering in a hushed voice, just barely loud enough so that the Captain could hear as well, “It’s okay, I used to draw on my parents stuff all the time too. A bunch of starships fighting Romulan’s and stuff. It was awesome.” Though he only did that once because he accidentally deleted his moms padd before drawing on it, with her being a scientist, that day did not end well for Gunther. He learned pretty quickly not to touch certain things.

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

Seeing as his back was turned, he did not notice the roll of her eyes that he and the Prison Warden had received, facetiously, from the said Captain. Instead, he was focused upon the man in front of him, a grin etching itself across the canvas of his youthful, untainted features. “It sounds awesome,” He whispered back, thinking his mother couldn’t hear anything they were saying to each other. He liked this man, even if he hadn’t known him for the longest time.

Bov’ar Ikra
Child

He grinned as well. “I would try to draw the phasers and torpedoes and everything too. Green and orange all across the page!” He made it look like he had just come up with an awesome idea before he mentioned it. “Maybe we could draw together sometime, I’m sure we could make something beyond awesome! I have some padd’s of my own that we could use! You’d just have to promise one thing.” He looked behind the child again to ‘make sure’ she wasn’t listening as he continued to be ‘quiet’. “You just can’t laugh at my terrible drawings!”

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

Ikra turned his head to look over at his mother, who was apparently busying herself with a PaDD that had been on her desk, beyond the one that he had been scribbling on, only a few minutes prior. Smirking, he turned his attention back to the man, nodding eagerly. “Okay!” He whispered, at the same level. “Sounds good!.. I got to go, though, before Mom gets all weird,” He crinkled his nose, unsure of what else to call it. As Akarel never yelled, she generally just gave him looks of, ‘really’ or ‘are you sure that was smart?’ And if he ever misbehaved, he either got the look that a Captain gave to a disappointing Officer or the one a Marine gave to a Starfleet Officer, or anyone, standing stupid. Both did the trick. “I’ll see you later, Major!” He tried to salute.. but it didn’t exactly work out. Waving and calling out a ‘Bye, Mom!’ He quickly disappeared from the office, likely to go cause someone else havoc.

Ikra
Child

He politely returned the Salute for Ikra, dismissing his blunder on the rank, from his crouched position as he left. “Becareful out there!” He stood back up and headed over towards the desk himself as the doors slid closed after the child had left. “Cute kid, might have to brush up on my terrible drawings so I don’t embarrass myself, heh.”

Bov’ar seemed momentarily preoccupied, as she had been responding to a question from the Engineering Department regarding the warp engines and their current state. It seemed to take her a second to register what he had said, “Yes, apologies, I was attending to a question from my Engineers.” She smiled, “He is a wonderful child; truly bright. Although, I’m sure that he wouldn’t notice if your drawing was a stick figure or a masterpiece.”

He then actually looked around the office a bit seeing the things she had up, somewhat hoping to spot some SFMC memorabilia or something to that nature. “This ship is definitely unique so far, must run a bit interesting with two sets of personnel most of the time. How do they two interact with each other? I understand that most of the time prison personnel won’t wander outside of the area, but does Starfleet still maintain the area with escorts or would we be responsible for the area?” He was still trying to understand the concept of having a prison facility aboard a separate entity like a Federation ship. Usually a prison would be under the complete control of the administration, but a mobile prison like this one was a different story. “Might be a bit early to ask, but what’s the staff like?”

Col. Gunther (Oncoming Warden)

Her office had several different pieces of memorabilia, including several different holographic pictures of old squadrons and fellow officers, her old insignia (an old dog tag with it), and several other pieces, such as the badge and SFMC flag, which all rested in bookcase behind her desk. Otherwise, there were several hints towards her Bajoran heritage, regarding artifacts and even paintings.. or the earring she had convinced Starfleet Command to allow her to wear.

“Prison Personnel are welcome to be anywhere within the residential portions of the ship; mess hall, gym, holodeck, recreation room, Sickbay and quarters. As Prison Command are also allowed on Decks One through Three, or our Command Decks, which include the bridge, briefing rooms and my office. Everywhere else, they are required to have a Starfleet Officer present with them, at all times. The same goes for Officers entering the prison decks, excluding the XO and I, all Officers must be accompanied by a member of the Prison Guard, upon entering.” Bov’ar explained, “You and Major Vonn are the expections on the Prison’s front. This crew is a joint crew between the Prison and the Starfleet Officers, as well as our marine detachment. We do not restrict anything beyond what is specific to a group of people, such as the Engineering Deck, the Prison or Marine facilities. Otherwise, we are here to work together as a single crew, under the jurisdiction of the Federation.” She remarked.

“Your current personnel include: Major Kodek Vonn, the Head Guard; seven senior Guards: Jamison, He’li, Ardan, Ontaru, Yvon, Imeka and Jillian, twenty Guards, as well as a number of Security and Intelligence Officers at your disposal.” Akarel, slid a PaDD over to him, “This is a list of our current prisoners: Amara, Rylee: married, human, ex-Starfleet Security, on counts of murder, breaking the Prime Directive, unauthorized contact and insubordination. She is one of our mild detainees: aware, stable. We currently have her working with the Security Chief, to retrain her, in hopes of creating an active citizen of society, upon her release.”

A pause.

“Statin, Myvera. Unmarried, Orion, ex-Syndicate. Here on counts of: First degree murder, obstruction and tamperment of evidence, hacking into Federation systems, thievery, several misdemeanors and resistance. She is a high-class: psychotic, attentive to detail and unafraid to execute any and all measure to escape. As of current, we are attempting to relocate Statin after a security breach in the Prison. We have no contact with the impending abductor, as we have been able to deduce that she was taken as opposed to escaping, due to absence of escape attempts or hostility. Right now, we have no leads as Forensic Intel are working with your new Guards, as to recreate possible scenarios and discover plausible ways this could have happened.”

Bov’ar readjusted herself, “Do you have any questions so far, Colonel?”
