Omni had only recently gotten off shift, and found that it would be wise to visit the Sickbay to see to how the new chief was doing with his recent promotion to the head of medicinal services. She clasped her hands behind her back, navigating the maze-like halls of the Serenity, on a path she had grown accustomed to, after these few days of running about the ship to complete tasks, as if she were some kind of mindless robot, stuck in the endless routine of making certain everything was done to the higher perfection, possible. Now, three days after her endless tasks had been begun, she decided that she had no desire to work overtime.Stepping through the doors of the Sickbay, Omni surveyed the room, searching for the sign of the medical officer. Her eyes swept the room, before catching sight of one of the younger medics. Stepping towards them, she inclined her head towards the NE. “Ensign, do you happen to know where I can find the Chief Medical Officer?” When given basic instructions, which was simply the location, she thanked the Ensign and made her way towards where she had been told she would be able to find the newly promoted Lieutenant. “Doctor Balashov?” She asked, studying the area, in attempt of finding where the unintentionally evasive Doctor was.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XOShe would walk in to the Chief Medical Officer’s Office only to find it .. empty? Though there were papers scattered about and a few boxes. “Mmmm? I am here Commander.” A hand extended down low to the side of the desk and waved for a second before a drawer could be heard closing as another opened. “Forgive mess. It seems previous CMO left in hurry.” The shuffle of papers were mostly from when the Station was previously active. Mostly really old patient records that needed to be written down instead of being accessed on a padd along with inventory re-supply requests and other reports of that nature. He sighed reaching up and placing another stack on top of the table. Yuri himself was seated on the floor surrounded by papers and boxes with drawers open all around him.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
Omni lowered her gaze to the floor, quirking a brow at the sight that beheld her unsuspecting eyes. “Hello, Doctor. Do you require any assistance?” She inquired, making her way over as she knelt down beside him, her movements somewhat rheumatic, due to the several surgeries and invasive procedures she had gone through. Silently, she picked up one of the papers, almost curiously studying it, before setting it back down. “Perhaps these could be useful, if they were to be cataloged into the shipyard’s LCARS, for future reference.” She suggested, noting that he might have already considered that front.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XO“Ah, you see method to madness then, yes?” He started rifling through another stack of papers, looking through them with a practiced eye. There were several key fields and words that he would look for in order to decide whether the paper could contain useful information or if it was just junk. “Looking for important records to add to LCARS, most too old or small things like common cold.” He sighed looking at all the papers around him. “This most likely will take days.. what brings you to medical today Commander? Everything is okay?” He set the current papers he was holding in his lap and looked over towards her.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
“Logical,” The Commander observed, a short nod coming from her, as if she were able to see his rationale and understand it. “Hmm? Oh, there is no issue, Lieutenant, I assure you.” She remarked, a simplicity about her tone. “I merely came to see to how you were coming along, after the new change in position and rank.” A momentary pause, “It would appear that you have already found a place amongst the madness, or so it would appear.” She nodded, lowering herself to a sitting position.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
He chuckled lightly at her joke, or at least it sounded like a good joke to him. “Yes, yes madness indeed!” He thought for a moment with the papers still in his hands. “The regeneration chamber should have been installed recently, yes? Did they install chamber properly?” He set the papers down and waved his hands in front of him. “I did not mean to rush you to test or anything, merely curiosity and medical necessity..” Somewhat flustered at his own rudeness he picked some of the papers out of the pile in front of him and tossed them off to the side while setting most of the stack on the desk and pulling a handful more out of the drawer he already had open.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
Omni did not recognize this as a type of rude response, but that was likely due to her resilience to specific emotions that humans possessed. Slowly, she was beginning to recomprehend the emotional responses that she had lost, after her assimilation, when she was hardly ten years of age, or so it was, comparatively to humans. “It was installed last night, and has proven to be effective. Of course, it is not perfect, however it works for the purpose it was intended for, thank you, Doctor.” It was difficult to determine what she was thanking him for, as she didn’t elaborate further. “It is of no issue, Lieutenant. Merely, is it, your duty.”
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XOOne corner of his cheek kind of pulled to the side as if one heard something that might have annoyed them. Though he wasn’t annoyed, it seemed as if he was unsatisfied by the answer. “Duty yes, but being in medical field myself I am at odds sometimes. Though professionally it is best to be detached, I feel that caring about patients produces better results. I care for all people Commander, more so now as CMO on station.” He tossed a few more papers to the side before standing up and setting the stack of papers in his hands on another on the desk, using his foot to close the bottom drawer on the filing cabinet. He picked up the combined stack of folders and papers. “We are headed to Exam room 1, I am organizing everything there. Could I trouble you to grab those folders Commander?” He used his eyes and tilted his head over the stack he was currently holding and balancing to a smaller pile on the corner of the desk.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
Omni was not oblivious to the strange bout of annoyance, or something akin, that passed through his features. She wasn’t certain what to make of it, thus, no response came of her almost tied tongue. “It is not only a Doctor, who is sentenced with caring for all.” She observed, referencing the fact that each department cared for people in different ways. Security and Tactical protected them, Engineering ensured them a safe place to live, Science noted threats and discoveries, Communications was always listening for new developments in the world around them, Intelligence looked into the intellectual side of things, Yeomans were there to assist people, Helm and Navigation kept people on track, and Command.. well, they were the leaders; the stone.
“Of course,” While her words were short, her actions were everything but. She leaned over, retrieving the said folders before leisurely rising to her feet. Once certain she had obtained all of the files she had been asked to, she headed out of the office and towards the said exam room, silence about her characteristically quiet ways.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XOYuri followed closely behind her as they made their way to examination room 1, he curiously observed her movements over the paperstack in front of him. “Commander, you mentioned that I could ask freely at times in future about your past.. would it be rude to inquire now? I am still curious about many things.” The walk was fairly short from the Office to the exam room, as they would walk in, there were several boxes lines up against the walls along with a few on the table top, and examination bench against the wall. There was plenty of room to maneuver into the room and int he middle of it. “Ah, set those on table there for now please.” He indicated towards the table top next to the boxes as he walked over to the examination table separating parts of his stack and sorting them into the three boxes that were there. There was also a small stool on wheels that was under the table, though it seems as it hadn’t been used in a long while.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
Her movements were rheumatoid, stiff. It was almost as if she were in pain, that or she wasn’t sure about the capabilities of her own body, more specifically, her legs. Upon entering the room, she was about to question the Doctor, as to where he desired the folders to be. That being said, he beat her to a query, before she had the chance to get her voice to work. Without cracking, that was. “You are more than welcome to inquire, Doctor. I see no reason why now would be an inappropriate time.” She assured, nodding towards his request to set the folders in a specific place. Moving about the small examination room, she placed the folders down, making certain they were evenly placed. This was just a sense of OCD, something many people possessed in one way or another.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XO“I was curious as to your past mostly. How much do you remember before being brought into the hive mind ..?” He worked diligently sorting the various folders and files as he asked the question, but before she could answer he pointed over towards the chair. “Before answer, please, sit. Chair is old, but still works, though it doesn’t slide very well.” He picked up the box on the left that was full and set it down on the floor next to the examination bench.
“My species, unfortunately, is known for photographic memory.” She shook her head, thanking him, as she lowered herself into a seat. She rested one of her arms on the armrest of the chair, placing her cheek against the back of her hand, just behind the knuckle. This was an oddly casual position for such a logical woman, but it’s purpose had rationale behind it. The position took pressure off of her spine, allowing for the vertebrae to relax, seeing as the top four were completely metallic. “That is quite alright, it will do, Doctor.”
The last few files he put away quickly enough before turning around. “Have your legs been giving you any trouble lately ..? I could take a look if you’d like?”
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
“I would say it is more of my ankles and lower back,” Omni responded, waving a hand shortly in dismissal. “No need, it is merry arthritis. I doubt much can be done for that, however, do correct me if I am wrong, Balashov.”
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XOHis mind already starting going through possible scenarios and causes. The lower back pain could easily be caused by the arthritis in her ankles. Dealing with the pain could sometimes force you to contort your body in subtle ways or walk differently that you wouldn’t expect. As he thought through it he thought he’d probably ask another question first. “Photogenic memory is good trait. Would make job much easier.” He chuckled lightly “Do you remember all things you see? Or just things you find useful?”
“I remember pictures and sounds, generally forming events of any significance to my life, or to what was around me. I suppose you could say it depended on what my mind discovered would be useful, yes. However, unlike your people, my species does not possess the same..” She searched for the word, but seemed to fall short on what she was looking for. “Blessing, I suppose, for our minds to block out everything that is traumatizing or otherwise painful to the mind.” Which simply meant that her species was not capable for the same memory capacity and abilities that the human mind had. Where the human mind was powerful enough to warp or even black out traumatic situations, their mind was not strong enough to do the same. “You, as a human, have an incredibly fascinating mind. One could be envious of your psychological abilities.”
He walked over and squatted down in front of her and the chair and looked at her ankle. From what he remembered from her scans, she had a cybernetic foot. “Hmm.. not much can be done without minor surgery, you are correct Commander. Though depending on problem, we can take temporary measures for help or recovery.” He looked at her ankles closely. “Both ankles are having issues?”
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
The first ankle he looked at was the base above her cynbernetic foot. The ankle itself was swollen, from the inflammation. “What type of surgery, Doctor?” Omni asked, hardly as informed about medicine as she was about Engineering and Science. Medicine was sort of the back burner for her, she left those sciences to the Doctors and those who preferred the topic. The opposing ankle was malformed, which had been previously shown on scans, as the ankle had likely been sprained in the past and didn’t heal properly, thus causing it to bend in, just above the foot. “Yes. You would likely be better at telling why, however.”
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XOHis medical mindset seemed to just take over before anything as he took off her shoes after he could see some of the initial issues. As he was moving one foot around at a time, up, down, to the left, and right to judge her range of motion he asked if any of it hurt at one point or another. He answered her question in between his checks. “Minor surgery would include checking and smoothing of bone and cartilage in areas inside ankle.” He tilted his head a bit as he flexed her second ankle feeling the odd movement of it. “Thought nano machines should take care of inflammation .. they seem not to be working or inflammation is continuous. Could try steroid injection for ankle with cybernetic foot. Won’t last long, but might be long enough for nano-machines to fix problem. Do you remember what happened to this ankle?” He opened a drawer next to her at the table and pulled out a medical tricorder and started scanning the ankle again to get updated readings on it.
Lieutenant Yuri Balashov (CMO)
“Hmm.. what do you believe would be the wisest course of action, noting upon our current situation with the Serenity. And, if surgery, what is the recovery time frame for it?” Omni inquired, her voice having gradually softened to be relieved of the harsh, stoic tone. It was now debatably friendly, a bit smoother and less ‘I-am-gonna-jump-down-your-throat’ like. Resting her back, as to alleviate some of the discomfort from her erect position, she glanced down at the Doctor. She contemplated how to respond to his query, before giving him the honest answer. “Just after I was broken from the Hive Mind, doctors began to reform my body, due to severe injuries sustained by the previous encounter with hostile civilization. Post to my surgeries and the beginning of recovery, one of the officers blamed me for the death of her family, seeing as I was an ex-Borg. Unappreciative of my stoic, perhaps cold demeanor, she threw her fist at me. In my hazy state, I was in no room to fight. Needless to say, she snapped my ankle and bruised several of my ribs. So, that ankle wasn’t sprain, it was snapped. Well, the bone supporting it, was.”
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
XO
Yuri sighed. “Some people don’t understand that there is no control over what you do in collective.” He seemed visible perturbed that someone would do such a thing to basically a defenseless creature. “If anatomy is similar to humans .. the talus could be repaired over time supported with metal plate. Recovery with nano machines ..” He thought for a moment and then looked up and the thought had just occurred to him. “Have you been walking on this entire time since then ..?”
He set her foot back down and set the tricorder to the side and shuffled through one of the drawers on the left, pulling out an older syringe. Hyposprays usually worked for most things, but for an injection of this nature, it needed to be in precise locations. “Wait here for quick moment.” He disappeared out of the room and turns the corner to the right where he went to another room that had several vials of various liquids secured in a climate controlled area. “Computer, open container Echo two, authorization CMO.”
=^= Acknowledged. =^=
He retrieved a small vial of an opaque white liquid and returned to the room with the Lieutenant Commander.
