Stout glared at the order in his hand that pulled his Chief Medical Officer off of the station and back to Earth. “Too short deadlines and not enough staff. Son of a - …” and was cut short by another order, stating that a new CMO would be selected and sent out “shortly”. Stout looked at that and his face flushed. =/\= Commander Omni, please report to my office immediately. =/\= Tapping a few commands into his desk comms interface, he contacted Star Fleet Headquarters. “Admiral Haynes. Captain Stout, Serenity Station. May I have a moment of your time, Sir?” he asked when the familiar face filled the screen a few minutes later.=^=On my way. Omni, out.=^=
“Captain, how are you? Been a while. Hows that antique coming along?” the Admiral asked with a slight chuckle. “Actually, she’s coming along swimmingly, Sir. Hell, we’d be at 100% and churning out ships faster than you can wreck them if you’s stop pulling the Senior Officers off every ten seconds.” Stout responded. His facial expression showed that he was only slightly kidding.
The Admiral stopped grinning and said “Now listen, Captain -” and Stout cut him off. “No, you listen Sir. I’m trying to get this station and these ships up and running, and Command keeps yanking people out every few days. No more, Admiral. You can’t have it both ways. You want fast? Fine, we can do fast. As long as we have the people. You want to short staff us? Fine. Then you don’t get fast. That’s the only way this works. Period. And don’t worry about sending a new CMO. I have the guy I want on board right now. You’ll have the promotion on your desk within the hour. I expect it to be approved, Admiral. In fact, you are gonna do that right now.” and he sent Balashov’s file to the Admiral as they spoke. “I’m tired, Admiral. Tired of having our chain yanked every three minutes. I’m tired of losing people because someone who doesn’t know what the hell we are doing decides they know better. Sir, with all due respect, that crap ends now. No more. My people are my people, and no one else leaves without letting me know first. Are we clear, Admiral?”
Having stepped into the room just moments after the Admiral had been cut off by Stout, Omni found herself standing silently to the side. She did not make herself known to the Admiral, well aware there was a high likelihood that the Captain would have noticed her position, within the confines of the office. She clasped her hands behind her back, quirking a nearly invisible brow towards the conversation. She couldn’t say that she disagreed with Stout, no, not at all. The only difference between them, would have been how it was phrased. Which, really only meant that hers would have been placid an cold, unlike Mike’s.
The man’s face was flat, but a few moments later he said “Captain, if anyone else ever spoke to me like that I’d have them drawn and quartered. That being said…” and he took a deep breath and tapped on his desk. “Ok, Captain. Balashov is the new CMO of Serenity Station. And any personnel changes will be ran past you going forward, unless there is an absolute emergency. But now you are on the hook. We expect results. Am I clear?” Stout nodded and said “Crystal, Admiral.” The Admiral nodded back. “Ok, Mike. Don’t let me down. It’s not just your neck in a noose here.” “Gotcha, sir. Don’t worry. We’ll get it handled.” and the two men smiled at each other briefly before the screen blanked out.
Omni relaxed from being at attention to standing at ease. Noticing the smile, she assumed that there wasn’t a friendly outlook on the situation, now that Stout had spoken with Haynes about the current staffing of the shipyard.
Stout looked at the blank screen for a moment and then tapped his comm badge. =/\= Ensign Balashov. Report to my office immediately. =/\=

“Doctor Balashov is a notable physician, Captain.” She finally spoke, stepping in the direction of his desk, however remaining standing, as opposed to take a seat. That was, after all, on the captain’s accord. “He shows several traits that would make him a fine Department Head, specifically within the realms of open mindedness and ability to accept himself to be incorrect, while learning from it.” The inflection, or lack thereof, within her voice didn’t waver. It remained a steady, almost monotonous drone, somewhat comparable to a Vulcan or the mechanical ‘voice’ of a Breen.
Lt. Cmdr. Omni
“Agreed. I think he will do just fine, but I’m glad to hear you agree. Apologies for not consulting with you first. The situation had to be dealt with… swiftly.”
Yuri was just finished getting together the equipment and supplies necessary in order to set up the decontamination unit for the ship the Captain had spoken about several hours beforehand. As he checked everything off the list and set the last box of miscellaneous things that might be needed to the side was when the Captain’s voice came through the comm system. Curious as to what the Captain might need, he figured it was probably to go over the finer details of the decon station that would be set up as he tapped his badge.
=^= Acknowledged Captain, I am on the way. =^=
He kept the padd listed with items in case the Captain needed a copy of the list and radiation suppressant dose counts from the medical inventory. As he left medical, it was only a short time before he reached the Captain’s office and pressed the chime.

“Yeah, come in.” came Stout’s voice from the other side of the door. As the doors slid open, Stout stood up and walked over to the replicator. “Something to drink, Doc?” he asked and mumbled something under his breath. “Have a seat. You too, XO. There are some personnel changes I wanted to discuss with both of you.”
Stout, CO
“Ah, another one sir?” It seemed that personnel were either being added or taken away by command rather swiftly lately, so for some reason it didn’t surprise him to hear about the changes. He nodded to Omni as he started taking the left seat, allowing the higher ranking Commander to take usual superior seat to the right. “Commander.” He looked back over to the Captain as he headed towards the replicator. “I could always use good coffee. If you have not tried yet sir, I would recommend Yuri blend #6. Smooth, deep flavor with hint of acidity.” He still couldn’t get his blends quite right so he had several he made changes to over time each with a different uniqueness to them.
Stout nodded and ordered two of the coffees.
He gently placed the padd he brought on the Captain’s desk in case he needed to review it. “I have brought supply list for decon station you requested to set up earlier Captain. Includes medical inventory list for radiation treatment and suppressants.” He looked over towards Omni, keeping a neutral, but curious expression. Hopefully she wasn’t leaving and was getting ready for a medical debrief from the station. He enjoyed her company and the small flecks of her personality that she would rarely show on occasion.

When Stout turned around, he had a mug in each hand. But perched on the top of one of the mugs was a blue box with the Star Fleet logo in silver imprinted on it. This mug he set in front of Yuri while he took a seat behind the desk and took a sip of the coffee. His face was blank as he looked at Yuri.
