Shipyard: Serenity
Main Sim - Conference Room - Command Staff Briefing
Stout walked into the Conference Room to find it had yet to be powered up. The room wasn’t a priority, so that wasn’t a complete surprise. Grunting, he walked over to the access panel on the wall and popped the door off with practiced ease. Looking inside, he traced the power relays back to the appropriate distribution-control relay. Manipulating the settings, power began flowing through the conduits and the lights and computer interfaces lit up and began running their appropriate diagnostics. Stout watched them with the eye of an experienced and knowledgeable Engineer, and nodded slightly in satisfaction as they finished booting up with no issues. He then went to the head of the conference table and took a seat, awaiting the arrival of his Command Team.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Omni was among the first to arrive. Maneuvering her way to the Conference Room, she slid through the automatically departing doors. For a moment, she seemed only the study the interior with the meticulous gaze of a skeptical being. Shaking her head, hardly enough to be visible, she stepped into the room and headed towards the Captain, silence within her simple step. “I suspect you were once an Engineer, sir. Judging on the articulate nature of your observations,” She summised, tilting her head to one side, as she waited for a response that would either confirm or deny her speculations.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Cmdr. Omni
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Stout looked up at her and said “Not ‘once’, am. Present tense. The red uniform is for show.” he said with a chuckled reference to his Command uniform coloring. “Have a seat, XO. I’m sorry we have to jump right in, but there is a metric-crap ton of work to be done and precious few hours in the day to get it finished. And I have no intention of finishing behind schedule. Not us, not the civvies, either. Speaking of, have you met the Civilian OPs Director? I’d like to get your take him, if you have one.”

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Stout, CO
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : “My apologies, ‘present’ engineer.” There was nearly a joking tone about her voice, but it faded.
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : “Mister Ferl’lak,” The woman pondered over it for a few seconds. “He seems an idiosyncratic man. I have not yet the decency to meet with him. However, I have observed him from time to time. I suppose that would be enough to form a temporary opinion upon him, sir.” Omni pauses, “He appears to be quite knowledgeable, yet hides his information and intellect for reasons I cannot quite deduce without further information. As most Ferengi, I would assume he is takeneted by the means of business. That is, judging by his place as the head of Civillian Operations.”
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sherlock slipped in a minute or so behind Omni. Giving a glance a moment and then stepping to the side.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : - Lieutenant Grimes (COps)
: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Cmdr. Omni
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Mike walked in he was up all night trying to fix a water flow mix up that one of his engineers made. He was very sleepy and his eyes were red he has been awake for 75 hours now he is about to crush. ” the water flow systems are working now after this meeting i need to get some rest”
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Mike Knight (CE)
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Feel free to split my post to address your individual sections directly.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : “You’ll get it, Chief. This won’t take long. We’ll see if Mr. Ferl’lak decides to grace us with his presence, but in the interim we can begin.” Stout said and activated a holo-display of three separate ships.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : “Here we have the USS Dawkens, Nova-class Science and Scout vessel. Balor 3 has requested a replacement system patrol vessel due to theirs being lost to hostile forces a few weeks ago, and the brass has decided that the Dawkens will be it.” he began. As he continued with his briefing, he pulled up individual sections of the ships and zoomed in on the systems he was discussing. “The Dawkens was moth-balled almost twelve years ago. So that means a full refit. Upgraded shield generators, phaser relays, torpedo launchers complete with the new S.P.A.R.T.A. launch system, hull plating, sensor suits, and warp core. Not to mention all the rewiring and upgrading of the power distribution systems. This one…” he said jerking a thumb at the display and looking at his team, “… is gonna be a right royal pain in the ass. Lt. Commander Omni, this is going to be your first project. You have the lead. All the current schematics have been sent to you. You and I will do a walk through of the ship later today and then you will get me a project timeline in the next seventy-two hours. You will have one hundred and twenty station days to get the ship ready for deployment. Before you tell me anything, I know you will need people. I’m working on it. Questions, Commander?”
: : : : : : : : : : :
His request for the project seemed rather reasonable and greatly needed for the proper conductivity and efficiency of getting this shipyard up and running. She listened to his dxpalanation, albeit brief, it made enough sense to her for her to be able to have no questions that needed direct answer. After all, she was certain their survey of the ship, later that evening, would be more than enough time to conjure questions that would be necessary for the competition of the project, and to receive answers that would be sufficient for the inquiry that had been asked, prior. Inclining her head to the Captain, almost too curt to be recognized as the nod she was attempting to convey, she kept her words short, in favour of keeping fluidity within this meeting. “Understood. No questions, sir.”
: : : : : : : : : : : Once the Commander was situated, Stout turned to Lt. Knight. “Chief, I need this station at one hundred percent in the next ninety-six hours. And by one hundred percent, I mean fully operational and ready for business. If you need anything, and I mean anything, you let me know right away. Fleet has basically given me a blank check to get this place up and running, thus the new Lounge. But that also means they will want results… and fast. For that, we are gonna need every docking clamp, umbilical, gangway, and replicator up and running like yesterday. I know you are beat. But that doesn’t change the fact that we have a completely unreasonable schedule to meet. And we have no choice but to meet it. So if there is something critical you need, tell me now.”
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : After Knight spoke, Sinclair looked to the Operations Chief. “Ok, Grimes. You are the lynch pin of all of this. We are going to have a metric-crap ton of freight, cargo, and personnel coming in. We need to get them processed, quartered, and on duty as soon as the set foot off the shuttle or transporter pad. This is also gonna mean a crap ton of flight traffic to monitor and control. Security has a few one-seater pods they can use as your enforcement arm, get with Pikelsimer and coordinate if you need to; but I’m gonna need you to keep the space around this station moving efficiently and orderly 24-7. That means a lot of hours dealing with freighter pilots… and you know what a lot of work those guys can be. Just keep it moving. Clear? Questions or concerns?”
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Stout looked around after the conclusion of the Fleet side of the discussion, hoping Ferl’lak had arrived.
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Stout, CO
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Mike looked up ” sir when you do the walk through of the ship can you bring one of rhe Chi drones they can compile of a full list of work parts that we need relate to the other drones and they can start putting the parts we need to do together. And they can help with the repairs and upgrades”
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Lt. Mike Knight (CE)
: : : : : :
: : : : : : “Clear it with the Commander, she’s running the refit.” Stout said with a nod to the XO. It was obvious that when he said she was running the project, he meant she was in charge of the project at all levels.
Omni shifted her attention to the CE, as if acknowledging his requests.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : OOC: My apologies on my lateness.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : IC: Ferl’lak walked in and looked around noticing the two. He bowed slightly to them a and smiled. “Forgive my lateness. How are you two doing this f fine night?”
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Ferl’lak
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Stout looked at the Ferengi and said simply “Take a seat. For future, make sure you get here on time. Small delays add up, I’m sure you know.”
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : “Oh believe me. I know. Again, I apologize.” Ferl’lak looked around and actually saw a chair low enough to the ground for him to get on and took a seat. He then brought out a PaFD to take notes and to deliver information.
: : : : :
: : : : : : : : OOC: Wait are civilians suppose to be part of this too?
: : : : : :
: : : : : : OOC: Only the Civilian Ops Head.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Yuri stepped in a bit late, PaDD in hand in case he needed to take down any information. “Apologies for being late Captain. The CMO is currently.. indisposed and sent me in place.” He gave a quick nod to those in the room and took an empty seat. He was admittedly a bit nervous as he’d never been a part of a meeting this high level, but he wanted to be sure to take down as much information as he could so when he returned it would be like the CMO was in there with him.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Ensign Yuri Balashov (Medical)
: : : : : :
: : : : : : “Heya, Doc. Good to see you. Take a seat. No problem.”
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Stout, CO
: : : : :
: : : : : Ferl’lak smiled and nodded at the young doctor. “Good to see such eagerness in one so young.”
: : : : :
: : : : : Ferl’lak
: : : :
: : : : Stout said “Now that we have Mr. Ferl’lak with us, let us continue.” and he brought up the holographic images of two civilian freighters: one Antares-class and one Rigelian in origin. “Here we have the Andromeda and the Bushkat. These are going to go to the Balor 3 system at the same time as the Dawkens. These, Mr. Ferl’lak, are your first project.” Again, as he went through each ship, he expanded the image of the system he was speaking about. “The Andromeda has multiple hull breaches and lacks a functioning life support system. She took a beating at the hands of some Naussicans before being left here to rust. Not a full refit here, but full repairs to bring her up to Federation standards for interplanetary transport. She’s gonna be the straightforward one, Mr. Ferl’lak. If it’s broken or missing, fix or replace it. Standard specs for the ship design, nothing fancy. Just with what she was coming out of the shipyard the first time.” and he looked at Ferl’lak to make sure he understood.
: : : :
: : : Ferl’lak nodded and made notes.
: : :
: : : : “Next is the painful one. The Bushkat was used to transport radioactive waste. Then it ‘sprung a leak’ and every interior surface was contaminated. Before ANY repairs are done, she needs a full decontamination down to the inside of the exterior hull. She’s not leaking outside, but be careful. If you put a pinhole in that hull, we are gonna have a radiation alert all over this ship. Anyone… and I mean ANYONE… coming off that ship gets a full decon and is scanned by medical before coming back aboard. Doc, you are gonna have to make sure Medical is monitoring that repair crew at all times. If they so much as twitch on a Geiger counter, they go back through decontamination. NO EXCEPTION. You both understand me?” he asked, looking at both Ferl’lak and Yuri.
: : : :
: : : “I understand Captain.”
: : :
: Yuri nodded following list of requirements, tapping away at his pad to make sure he noted them down. “Of course Captain, I can set up decon station at airlock once ship is in place. If there are multiple airlocks that connect to ship, they will be placed under medical quarantine, which can only be overridden by CMO. I would have to check with supply station to see if hazmat suits are available. We do have enough supply for radiation symptom suppression, but personnel without suit will need to carry radiation strip to ensure they do not take lethal dose from exposure. They will need to take course of anti-radiation inoculations after exposure. Down time for those personnel will be minimum 13 hours.”
:
: Yuri paused for a moment calculating a few risks, before continuing, “That is of course assuming high level of radiation, if there is low levels due to decay of material, personnel can stay inside ship longer before needing to leave.”
:
: : : : “Once that is done and we can 100% say it’s clean, repairs are as follows: warp core replacement, main computer reconfiguration, life support upgrade, shield upgrade, and the real hard one… automatic emergency containment bulkheads between every cargo bay and the crew spaces. These are arriving in three weeks, and they are MASSIVE. Fifteeen centimeters thick on each side with a core of 20 centimeters of lead. They are nine meters high by thirty-six and a half meters wide. And there are ten of them. Each one with their own dedicated activation system. Getting these things installed would be hard enough with a ton of time… we have the same time frame on these as we have on the Dawkens: 120 station days. And the clock starts today. So… What questions does everyone have?” he said, knowing the magnitude of the work he had just dropped in their laps had an almost identical effect that it had on him when it was given to him a few hours before.
: : : :
: : : : Stout, CO
: : :
: : : Ferl’lak nodded again after making some notes. “I have a couple questions Captain. For the second ship, I will need about a 20% increase in manpower for that ship. If need be, am I allowed to hire more people?”
: : :
: : : “Second question. Is the captain of the Andromeda Dylan Hunt?”
: : :
: : : Ferl’lak
: :
: : “We have more personnel en route. I’ve been told that we will have a full station complement within the next two weeks. That will include both Fleet and civilian personnel. If you want more civilian personnel, you’ll need to go through Federation Fleet Logistical Support. They run your budget. If they can’t or won’t help, I will spare whatever Fleet personnel we can to lend you a hand. But expect me to ask the same of the civilian side at times. That work for you? And as far as the Andromeda goes, I have no record of any CO being assigned right now. But as soon as I know, you’ll know. I would hope the CO would want to be present for the repairs to their vessel, but that’s just me.”
