The half-Bajoran glowered at the stars. Her sour mood was so strong a couple of her subordinates who had approached intending to say ‘hi’ had backed away at the sight of her expression. They figured it would be safer for them to leave their chief to her mood rather than risk their necks. A few of the unfortunate ones knew from experience how sharp the Lieutenants tongue could be when she was in one of her moods. So she sat alone with a glass of whiskey in her hand and a bottle on the table in front of her. She had science papers scattered around her and her PADD rested underneath the whiskey bottle.Lt. Prinz
CSOHeather rubbed her forehead, it still hurt from the simulation on the holodeck that she had no understanding of where it was going or what it had meant to do. Figuring that it was supposed to be some kind of bridge crew training, Heather figured that it failed miserably really. No one seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing, and those that did know didn’t step forward to get the job done. instead the putzed around putting the ship and crew in danger. even if it was a holodeck simulation it was still a hostile situation that they fled from.
Heather sat down at a table in a dark corner away from all the other officers and just sat there closing her eyes and wishing she could relax. However, she couldn’t if she did relax her mental barriers would drop and her mind would be open. That was something she could not afford even though there were no immortals around her like her family. there were still other telepaths. Trust was something she did not afford to have in anyone to keep her secret and live her own life rather than following in her family’s dictates. She sighed though and took a couple of deep breaths.

OOC: Great post :)
IC: Her thoughts far away Esther scowled and took another gulp from her glass, the burn of the Terran alcohol a welcome distraction from the one thought running through her brain. Cursed Marco, and his cursed paper. Her scowl deepened. Perfect old Marco, with his perfect Bajoran background and his perfect grades and perfect papers. She turned her head away from the window, down at his latest paper that lay mocking her from it’s place in the messy pile on the table. Her last paper lay next to it once again second best to Ethu Marco’s.
She shook her head to remove the thoughts and finished the rest of the liquid in her glass. What did it matter? She’d simply write a better paper than the one he’d written, recieve remarks from the greatest science critics, then becoming the youngest scientest to be nominated for the Bajoran Science Awards (BSA). She picked up the bottle of whiskey and opened it. The only problem was that she had to find the perfect topic to write her next scientific paper on. Something bigger and better thatn Marco’s last paper. Something that would get her into the BSA, something that he wouldn’t be able to beat. She hummed thoughtfully as she poured the amber liquid into her glass. That was something she still hadn’t figured out yet.

CSOOOC: Thank you, yours was good as well :P
IC: Heather could sense the anger at the other end of the room, but she blocked it out. She had enough on her plate right now without having to help solve someone else problems. Heather wasn’t one to drink or even eat. Thanks to her upbringing like most of her family, after 100 years of living food just becomes boring and one extra step they didn’t need. Most of their nutrients came from the blood they ingested anyways. She hated this, hated that she was so completely different from everyone around her. Yeah, she was stronger, and faster, and could basically rewrite the memories of a mortal, but thankfully she wasn’t that much stronger than a Klingon or a Vulcan so she could blend in if she tried.
Thanks to her cousin she wore a bracelet that tricked transporters into reading her DNA as El’Aurian rather than what she really was. Nothing like Mythology walking right off the pages. if people knew what their ‘lost city of Atlantis’ really was like they would probably be glad it was gone. Most of the science they created was scary out there. Even more so than today. Today’s technology was far better as far as Heather was concerned. Considering they never thought of mixing Bio-engineering and nano-technology and coming up with something like her. Unless you counted the Borg. As far as Heather was concerned she was an example of why such tech should never mix. The borg was another example. it went wrong no matter how you look at it. Granted she’d didn’t want to die, but she neither could die not under normal circumstances. Which is why she could never let her secret out. Heather sighed rubbing her forehead again. No one could ever know what she was. She would have to disappear if her secret was found out and her Uncle Lucian would be there with an ‘I told you so’ if she ever did come home like that.
Heather wondered if she was rebelling just to rebel? or if she should go home and forget about living her life her way which could put everyone she’s ever cared for in jeopardy?

Bump to not lose
The words on the paper before Esther swam in and out of focus.Whether it was the alcohol, or the late hour, it didn’t stop her from slamming the paper down in frusteration. An Ensign walking past jumped and scurried away. The CSO barely noticed, as she leaned forward and buried her head in her hands. How was she every supposed to prove to Marco that she was just as smart as he was? Smarter even. Because she hadn’t started school until years after the other kids. It had taken time to catch up with the other children her age, but once she was there it had taken no time at all for her to reach the top of her class. Except Marco was always there as well. By the Prophets, He always somehow managed to find a way to take her pedostole out from under her before she even had a chance to stand on it.
Esther grit her teeth, well this time Marco wasn’t going to beat her. She would get the BSA before he did. Even if she had to write 100 papers to get it. So long as she beat that one man. Suddenly she smirked, realising how silly she sounded even in her own head. She didn’t know why but there was something about Ethu Marco that made her want to push herself to best him. Perhaps it was a touch of that lingering childish anger from the way he used to tease her for not being smart. She picked up a metrology paper and squinted, resuming her search for the trace of an idea that would take her to the top.

CSOHeather looked up from her thoughts to the sound of something slamming and noted the other woman. However, as long as she was left alone she had no problem sharing the place with anyone. It was after all the lounge she had no right to claim it all to herself. Moving the food around on her plate she pretends to eat it but wasn’t touching it really. Heather wondered how long it would be before her mother tried again to demand she return home. she’d already sent uncle Lucian up here in her stead once, would she come herself? Heather doubted it her mother was terrified of leaving earth and going to space. Maybe she could call home at some point.

When the words on the paper in front of Esther swam before her again she used it as a chance to rest her eyes from the words that she felt like she’d been looking at since forever. The room was quieter now. She’d hardly noticed that the noise level had dropped at somepoint between the paragraph on cellular development and the process of enviromental mutations. Now there was hardly a soul, just a couple of night-owl Ensigns, herself and the CE who had been here for nearly as long as she had been. Esthers eyes narrowed as she glanced at Argeneau. Hadn’t the Chief Engineer been eating when she first came in? Was that the same dish or a different one? Esther squinted, before catching herself and determindly focusing her eyes back on her work. Perhaps it was her natural innate scientific curiosity or perhapse, or just her nosey human side coming through, but it was none of her business how much the junior Lieutenant ate… or didn’t eat.
The science officer smiled wryly to herself, and resumed reading the paper before her. Argeneau might be a curiosity, and a mystery to most of the crew, but she was hardly a scientific curiousity just an ordinary humanoid that kept to themselves. Nosing about in her co-workers lives wasn’t going to get her any award winning papers any time soon. Focus Esther she scolded herself Or you’ll never proove to Ethu Marco that you’re just as good as he is.
