OOC: Alright. This is a new post that will continue the Checking The Engines thread but in the JAG section of the ship. K’Vexx, me and the gamemaster will do this. This thread is closed to us three.

T’Pon and K’Vexx both arrived in the JAG section of the ship. This would be a golden opportunity for T’Pon to introduce herself to the JAG department, give them their first assignment and test out the forensic hardware.

As both the officers arrived at the door, they’d open the door, likely eliciting a “JAG on site” salute from the JAG members present.

As K’Vexx entered the JAG department with T’Pon, he watched the salute and appreciated the formality of it all. As a Klingon, rituals and command structure were two of the constants of the universe.

“Alright everyone,” T’Pon said, with loud officer’s tone, “I am your new JAG and I don’t have the time to ingratiate myself. I am T’Pon.”

Pause.

“This is lieutenant… K’Vexx right?” T’Pon said, looking at the Klingon quizzically. “Me and K’Vexx will be commanding a new investigation we have. Long story short, we need to do a counter-intelligence operation. Lieutenant, given you’re the security chief and the lead on counter intelligence, please explain to my people what we will do.”

K’Vexx nodded in response to T’Pon’s question and waited for her to finish addressing her officers. “We will be conducting an investigation into Lieutenant Carter Fitzgerald. All we know is that he is a systems analyst and his presence aboard this ship was sudden. He seems to have a lot of knowledge and authority above his rank, and we have suspicions that he is not who he appears to be. All of you will be given specific assignments and no one will know the whole investigation other than Commander T’Pon and myself. We will find out who he is, and more importantly, what form of threat he is to the Dauntless and Starfleet. That is all. You will have your assignments after the commander and I have discussed them. Thank you.”

He then turned to the Vulcan and asked, “Shall we discuss this in your office?”

T’Pon nodded to K’Vexx and then proceeded to march to where it said “JAG’s Office”. She sat down, opened her computer, and waited for K’Vexx to arrive.

The Klingon followed T-Pon into her office, watched her sit down, then waited patiently by the door as it closed. This was her domain, so he would let her make the first move.

“Alright, lieutenant. Here’s what our goal is. We need to see if Fitzgerald has an ulterior motive for being here. The way we do that is by seeing who gave him this assignment and contacting them to get a reason. Then if we can’t find anything, we’ll investigate him to see if there’s anything fishy. I need the captain’s approval to interrogate anybody on board. What is your expertise again, by the way?”

“Mostly combat, Commander,” K’Vexx began, unsure if he really was qualified for this investigation. “Before the Dauntless, I served aboard DS9 in a Borg Threat Task Force. Our missions were mainly against the Borg, but we fought against the Undine as well. I am trained in 17 forms of physical combat, and I can use over 70 weapon types effectively. Subtlety is not my strong suit, but I am learning. Any wisdom you can impart, or courses I can study in my free time would be welcome.”

He let that sink in, not wanting to add how he took down a Borg combatant in hand-to-hand combat, feeling that it would seem like a boast in this situation.

“Not the best background for counter-intelligence, but we’ll have to make due,” T’Pon said with a hint of disappointment in her voice. “Your combat skills may be of use if we ever have to subdue Lieutenant Fitzgerald. I assume you have leadership skills, so you’ll likely be leading any operation that involves smacking people.”

The commander would then fire up her computer and do a search on Carter Fitzgerald’s file. She’d specifically look for promotion board members on his last assignment and specifically search for any compromising material a potential infiltrating force could use on the lieutenant. Afterwards, she’d look at the admiral’s profile as well as the profile of the species they were to negotiate with, emphasizing specific incentives someone in Starfleet may have to have a person on board doing nefarious things. What would T’Pon find?

“Right now I am searching relevant information as to who may have a bond on Carter Fitzgerald. Just so you know, a bond is co-intel speak for something that can be used as a thumbscrew.”

T’Pon would keep typing for a bit.

There wasn’t much information to be found on the man who went by the name: Carter W. Fitzgerald. Of the few results that came of her basic search, the names Lt. Cmdr. U’lau, Commander Jason Vincent and Captain Liesl Sandera popped up.

After those names popped up, T’Pon took a small piece of paper and drew a constellation arrangement with Fitzgerald at the center and the three officers around them. She then began searching deeper into the first name, Lt. Cmdr. U’lau for relevant information as to history and personality, emphasizing what beefs she may have with the mission the USS Dauntless was on. What would she find?

Majority of her file was redacted, but if T’Pon used her clearance codes, she would find a great deal of information on the good doctor. Of the data in her file, what stood out the most was her assignment to Outpost 102, an Intelligence Outpost in the System Coranni-1. Additionally, there was a connection to a certain Admiral Lucius Lockehart. Who, if T’Pon had been keeping up on the current mission, was the man in charge of the resident Diplomatic and Marine detachments heading directly for the Bethrisian system.

“Lieutenant, I’d appreciate if you’d introduce yourself to my subordinates and check what skills they may have of use. That would be a good use of your time.”
