“Admiral Lockehart is our current passenger. We are transporting him and his diplomatic attachment, as well as an additional marine detail, to the Bethrisian system for a diplomatic conference concerning the Bethrisian’s joining the Federation.” She explained, “It is all in the mission file in your office. You’ll find a detailed synopsis of the Admiral’s briefing, intentions and up-to-date actions since his arrival to the Dauntless.” She paused, “Needless to say, we are suspicious of him.”

“Lt. Fitzgerald is a 33-year veteran of Starfleet Engineering. He has received the Zephram Cochrane award for Engineering, among other smaller medals for his contributions to the Federation. He has severed aboard several Starfleet and Federation establishments, including the USS Nimitz and Starbase Vermillion. I requested a systems analyst to keep Dauntless’ LCARS and data systems in pristine condition, so my engineers could handle the work that was pertinent to our missions. His purpose is solely for managing our systems, should he venture further than that, it is outside of his clearance.” She paused, “I was expecting a young Ensign by the name of Xander Milotti. When Fitzgerald arrived, I interrogated him about his position on the Dauntless; his alibis and evidence were supported by proof from Starfleet Command and Engineering districts. However, something does seem..odd.”

“I have no reason to dispute the admiral’s motivations. He is a diplomatic officer and he’ll help us with the negotiations.”

Pause.

“I am going to keep a very, very close eye on him. Fitzgerald replacing Milotti at that time seems extremely odd and his position as a systems analyst seems like an information bottleneck that could be compromised with relative ease. While we’re on the topic, who are these Bethrisians? Moreover, which entities might want to compromise our negotiations? That could be very telling.”

“Commander,” Aihia turned to her, hiding her growing irritation with ease. “I suggest you go over the mission files that were sent to you prior to your boarding.” Her voice had dropped to a stone monotony. “The Bethrisians are a humanoid people, known for their commerce and agriculture. They are, however, adept in their military experience hence Starfleet’s decision to collaborate and train with them throughout the duration of this mission.” She explained. “They are a peaceful people who have shown no indications of malice towards the Federation. As of current, there are no obvious candidates for those wishing to compromise the conference.”

OOC: Um just so you guys know this dinner with the brass thread took place before the engineering open thread which I stated in the very first post (though Luke wouldn’t know that since he just joined) so I’m not sure if I should just let it continue or not.) up to you two, but I think we should probably take everything from talk about Fitzgerald down to a different dinner with the brass thread like a second dinner or something?

OOC: Yes. That would work best, otherwise T’Pon wouldn’t be able to be (chronologically) at the dinner, as it took place prior to her arrival. :)

IC: Heather listened to the Captain, “Does his duties include working on the warp core because when I saw him there the vibes he was giving off was not exactly the helpful person he’s supposed to be, something about him makes me believe he’s up to no good.” with a frown, he was very evasive with his answers if Heather recalled correctly.

“Only if there was a fluke in the central computer’s programming. However, as far as I’m aware, the warp core is separate from the computer systems, is it not?” Aihia rose a suspicious brow, tilting her head slightly to the side. “What was he doing when you found him?”

Heather frowned, He was working at the warp core, but before I could take the PADD he was looking at while working he’d cleared the page I haven’t had a chance to double check the warp core just yet, but so far nothing seems to be amiss. I have one of my officers keeping an eye on it and, they are to alert me to anything out of the ordinary and let me know if Fitzgerald goes near the warp core again.” Heather told the Captain.

“Very well. Keep me apprised of the situation.” She nodded to Heather. “Should anything he does raise suspicion within you, I trust judgement on what should be done.” Ael fell quiet, contemplating the conversation she had with Si’Rek days before his departure. Something was off here, he’d sensed it the moment the Admiral had entered their lives and Aihia’s skepticism was only growing.

“This kind of suspicious behavior is what I want to keep an eye on, Captain. I know this may irritate you, but I am simply doing my job.”

“I understand. However, you are not to engage Fitzgerald until given reason to do so. Background checks, communiques to previous commanders.. those are fine. But if he is up to something, I don’t want him suspecting we’re on to him.” She glanced between them both, “Capische?”

Ael wasn’t sure how else to respond besides a quick nod. She wasn’t aware T’Pon knew Spanish.

Heather looked to T’Pon then back to the captain, “I would like permission to talk to the chief of security about Lt Fitzgerald.” Heather requested of her Captain.

“Granted.” She confirmed. “We have a new chief aboard, his name is Lieutenant K’Vexx. I trust he will be able to assist you well.”

She glanced between her Chief Engineer and JAG commander. “Is there anything else either of you would like to address, while on the topic of crew matters?”

“Not at this time Captain,” Heather said softly.

“I would also like to speak with the new chief of security. We will by working closely with one another.”
