USS Dauntless
Meeting Cmdr Felix
::::Felix didn’t flinch as the glass sailed through the air and smashed against the wall. One hand slowly raised and a delicate finger casually flicked a droplet off her cheek. She stared at the Lieutenant as he spoke, and when he finished she simply yawned, stood up, and said “Unfortunate. That temperament is not going to serve you well, Lieutenant Junior Grade. Not when speaking to me, not when speaking to a superior officer, and certainly not when dealing with matters that require less…” and she looked at the water running down the wall and then back at the man behind the desk, “… subtlety. Tell you what. Pull my file. I’m sure you already have, but you need to read it. Thoroughly. Think about our conversation here. Draw some preliminary conclusions. And when that’s done, dry up your little temper-tantrum. And then put on your big-boy britches give me a call. Then, and only then, can we proceed.” And she stepped forward so that her legs brushed against the front of the desk. “But make no mistake, Lieutenant. This little outburst doesn’t change my job… it’s only making it harder for you to do yours. And please… enough with the posturing, alpha-male, silver back gorilla routine. If I needed a thug, there are a thousand Orion Mercs I could hire. What I need is someone with the knowledge and capability to see through ‘doublespeak’… and the good sense to keep their mouth shut about it until it’s time to discuss.” and she took a step back.

: : : “If thats not you, maybe we did pick the wrong ship. Again, unfortunate. Your record was one of the reasons I pushed for the Dauntless. What a shame…” she said softly, and then turned and walked to the door to leave.

: Dan sat down. He actually laughed at her last remark. “One last thing Felix. Just a little something I’m curious about. If I’m so goddamn important to this little ‘game’ of yours, Why have you been playing me this whole time? Hiding behind smiles, then insults. The one thing you never did was answer my question. Or give me anything useful. It would have been easier that way. Well, I have no use for someone who’s going to bullshit me. So, if I were you, I’d go ahead and leave the Dauntless. You’re useless to me.”

Felix stopped and looked over her shoulder. The smile never left her face, and her voice was sickeningly sweet. “First of all, Lieutenant. It is COMMANDER Felix. If you cant be bothered with mundane protocol, then maybe I should discuss your presence around the delegates with the Captain and the Admiral. That would, of course, make it so hard for you to do even the most rudimentary parts of your job, let alone the added task of ensuring the safety of everyone involved in the negotiations. Second, I did answer your question. It’s just not the answer you want. Third, I have given you a great deal that is useful. But perhaps you are just a bit too…” and she looked at the water still dripping on the carpet from the wall, “… emotional… to see it.” and then she turned to face the Junior Grade Lieutenant fully, the smile slightly fading, but remaining in place. “You can’t change the circumstances you find yourself in. You don’t even have a say in those circumstances. What you do have is a choice. You can continue to be a child throwing temper tantrums, or you can do your job. That choice is up to you. I recommend you make it quickly.” and she spun on her heel, her red hair swinging around and trailing her out of the office.
