Ander’s first impressions of the Curie were not very good. The ship had been stripped pretty heavily during her time in mothballs. So much so, that she had been slated for scrapping. The crews assigned to get her ready for their mission had done a fantastic job, but the ship was quite the mess. Open panels and accessways had equipment in various states of assembly scattered everywhere. Crews with plasma welders were installing new conduit, replacing missing grav plating, and shoring up old bulkheads. Picking his way through the corridor, Ander arrived in sickbay. Half the door opened at his approach, the other half emitted a terrible shrieking noise. Ander shimmied through. Several biobeds were still wrapped in packing material. The sockets where they should have been able to connect were missing, and tangles of optical cabling hung limply from the walls. The main diagnostic bed was setup, and judging from the monitors it was functioning. Ander walked over to it and hopped up, feeling the bed shimmy uncomfortably as it took his weight. He tried rocking and felt the frame shift. Climbing down he inspected it and found that it hadn’t yet been attached to the floor. Looking around he saw an open engineering kit and grabbed a couple of the tools, completing the job himself in annoyance. They’d be lucky to leave spacedock at this rate.
