Her head tipped to the side. “You think they aren’t watching?” She lifted a delicate shoulder as if it didn’t matter. “If they aren’t, maybe you should ditch this ship.” She nodded vigorously about the food. She wanted to with him, but decided not to push her luck.Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril entered with an apologetic look. “Of course we were. Listening to your minds.” He commented. “There was a small emergency to deal with. How are you doing?” He asked Vash, smiling.
~ N, Captain
Did her face light up? Maybe, but she was so composed it was hard to tell. “I am much better. Elias has taken good care of me.” Her voice was not like before. There was that ethereal quality but lacked the musical tone. It was raspy and tired. She had so many questions and she fought the urge to reach out and touch him so she could share her empathy with him.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli looked at him then her, she was obviously happy to see him. “I was just getting her something to eat” he said, “You hungry?” he asked Noril moving towards the door, he swiftly picked up his flask and put it in his pocket.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
Medic“Yeah.” He gave him directions to their food storage. The crew cooked for themselves, there was no replicator. “And drop. The flask.” He said, turning to look at Eli.
~ N, Captain
Vash grinned and got this irresistibly mischievous look on her face. “He’s afraid I’ll steal it again. He’s making sure to keep it away from me.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril gave her a playfully dirty look. “You’re too young to drink.”
~ N, Captain
By the time looked back Eli was gone, flask sitting on the counter. He moved around the galley and got some more ration pie going, and some shakes for them all.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicVash rolled her eyes. “I am not.” She wasn’t either. She’d been allowed to drink from the time she was old enough to choose what she wanted to drink. She didn’t like it though. Her Deltan tutor had advised her against indulging, given the effect it had on her. Vash had already come to that conclusion for herself.
Vashkilu could be coy when the situation called for it, but she had too many questions. The twins had made it quite clear they didn’t see her as a slave nor did they want her acting like one. They were strange, but she liked them - a lot. “Elias said you brought him here for me,” she nodded toward the door he had disappeared through. “The last thing I remember is over a week ago. Will you tell me what happened?”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“We didn’t have a medic on board. You were sick, Vash. You didn’t look good.” Noril said gently. “You didn’t do much besides rest in your room. We were on our way to a doctor but we honestly weren’t sure you’d make it to one.”
~ N, Captain
She stared at him like he didn’t make sense. “I don’t remember leaving my father’s house.” Why would they take her if she was sick. She was of no value incapacitated and damaged like that. Her father would have offered someone else in her place.
“I owe you all my life, then.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“We left with you early. That doctor…” A flash of anger crossed his face. “You’re going to get better care from here on out.”
~ N, Captain
She couldn’t fathom why he was angry, but it was palpable. “Elias is quite talented. I have never healed so well. I will repay the debt. Thank you,” she bowed her head for a long moment before looking at him.
The last time she saw him, he was quite strongly affected by her. He almost came to blows with Sisnil. “I deeply regret what happened. Are you alright now?”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril nodded. “We were able to acquire medication to prevent your pheromones from affecting us. Now that you’re healed, I understand you have some ability to control that?”
~ N, Captain
Something else she would have to pay back. The debt was piling up. “Yes. It is a rare ability among Orions, and highly prized. I do not have the gene, but my Deltan heritage allows me to control it anyway.” She sat up, her spine a metal rod. “It won’t happen again. I gave you my word, and I give it again. I will not influence you or your crew unless you ask.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril smiled and patted her shoulder. “It’s fine, Vash. And stop trying to count your debt. We’re not collecting.”
~ N, Captain
There was a deeper buzz of connection at the contact. It was still a very new thing, and she noticed it right away. “I must count my debt. Otherwise I can never buy my freedom.” She was very matter-of-fact about it. There was also a core of determination and stubborness there too.
“Is everything alright? You said there was a problem.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril shook his head. “Not to us. We’re trying to help you buy your freedom, not add to your debt.” He kept his hand on her shoulder. He liked their connection. “Everything’s fine. Sisnil’s got it handled.”
~ N, Captain
“I understand, but the Syndicate will account for every slip I have cost you. If they feel I have not paid it back through latinum or work, they will not allow me to buy my freedom.”
Vash liked the connection, too. She set her hand over his. “I am sure there isn’t anything the two of you can’t handle.” She looked up at him, “Do you think you can get Elias to let me out of here?” The problem was he could see and feel her exhaustion. She was acting like she didn’t feel it, but she did.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli walked back in not really saying much, he set down the tray infront of Vash along with the shake. He handed Noril a tray as well. “Eat please” he said checked the readings for a moment and then walked back out of the infirmy to go eat his own meal.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicVash nodded and gifted him a dazzling smile. “I will. Thank you.” He was oddly quiet and reserved now compared to earlier. She could only surmise that it was because of Noril. She watched him leave with a worried expression.
“You need to rest,” Noril said gently. “I can feel how exhausted you still are.” Noril seemed surprised Eli had brought him a tray as well, but thankful. “Thanks.”
Vash pouted. And it was truly irresistible. On purpose. She wasn’t using her special skills, but her training. “I have been, for over a week. Please?”
He turned back to her, “He’s doing his job well.”
~ N, Captain
Eli looked over his shoulder as he exited. “Thank me after you tasted it” he said with a low chuckle. He worked his way back to the galley to get his food and decided to eat there.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicWell she wasn’t going to convince him that way. Of course even if she convinced Noril and Sisnil. Elias would never agree. He’d probably fight… Oh. She stared out the door where he disappeared. “He might be … planning ways to hurt you. He thinks you kidnapped me and are the ones who hurt me. He’s also not too happy that I belong to you. I tried to explain, but he’s very upset over it.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril paused, forkful of food halfway between the plate and his mouth. He set the fork back down and suddenly seemed to be concentrating hard. He was alerting Sisnil, and together the brothers were searching Eli’s mind for any such plans to hurt them.
~ N, Captain
Eli was not currently thinking about the twins or vash for that matter, he was thinking about his past, mainly is sister and the booze that was now softening the pain. There was a distrust of the twins and thier motives around vash but no plans to cause harm at the moment.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicNoril seemed to relax some and tried the food. It was a bland, goopy, ration pie. If either of them were watching him eat, they’d recognize the way he dutifully swallowed each bite the way someone who’d gone hungry would. After all, if you could choke it down, at least your belly wasn’t empty.
~ N, Captain
It didn’t taste as good as it did yesterday. She was hungry, but she wasn’t starving anymore. She didn’t turn her nose up at it because she knew Elias had worked to make something palatable. But it certainly offended her delicate senses of smell and taste, and even the texture. “As soon as you let me out of here I’ll start my work in the kitchen. I promise I’ll earn my value.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“Vash, we wouldn’t care if you never cooked another day in your life.” Noril said. “Just focus on recovering.”
~ N, Captain
“I like to cook. We agreed! Sisnil said he was happy to give up your cooking.” She nodded, that was what she would do. Sisnil didn’t baby anyone. “He’ll let me cook.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril laughed. “He’ll let you cook when you’re healed. Until then he’ll suffer through our rotating schedule.”
~ N, Captain
She huffed, “I aaaahhhh awww mm healed.” Of course it was ruined by the yawn in the middle of the declaration. “See, I’m so bored I’m yawning.”
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“I’m a telepath, Vash,” Noril said with a grin. “You’re bored, but you’re also just really tired.” He took her hand and squeezed it gently. “Go to sleep, okay? I’ll be here.”
~ N, Captain
Her fingers curled gently around his hand, but her grip didn’t waver. She liked the contact. “Promise?” The tone of that single word was seductive. Underneath, and it was a good bet Vash wasn’t aware of it, she was scared. She’d woken up over a week after her last memory, struggling to live, with a very intimidating stranger standing over her, in a place she didn’t know, and Noril (and Sisnil) were no where.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“Promise. I won’t leave you alone again,” Noril said gently, smiling at her.
~ N, Captain
The smile that settled on her face lacked any sort of allure. It was gentle and relaxed and soothed. “Okay.” She laid back on the bed, pulling the blanket up over her shoulder. “Don’t let Elias fuss because I didn’t eat all of it.” She yawned, eyes already closed.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli walked in a few minutes later, he looked at Noril unsure of is intentions. He collected the trays and set them on the counter next to the door , he would take them back to the galley when he went to sleep. “Maybe while you sit there you can explain where my bunk is” he figured he would have a cuby somewhere that was far to small for him to be comfortable and would be sleeping in the infirmary when it was empty. He moved to look at her stats.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicNoril explained where the crew quarters were. “Do whatever you need to do.” He said. “We don’t care. Within reason, of course.”
~ N, Captain
Vash wasn’t back to normal yet, but she was a long way from where she had been. The scan showed some inflammation around her throat that was probably uncomfortable, but she hadn’t said anything. Her body was making good use of the food and light Eli had been plying her with. She was already deeply asleep, her body claiming the rest it needed despite her objections.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“Thank you” he said as he reviewed the data, he looked through what data he had gathered to try and find an anti-inflammatory that would not send her into another tailspin.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicThere wasn’t much. Something very mild, but ice was probably the safest option until Eli knew more about her phisiology.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril watched him work. “She going to be okay?” He asked. There was genuine concern in his voice. He cared like she was a person, not an investment.
~ N, Captain
Eli looked up from what he was reading, he opened the fridge and pulled out and ice pack. “It was not looking good when I first got here, honestly if you had not found me i’m pretty sure she would be dead now.” he said looking at him .”She’s stable and I think she is going to be ok, I’ll hopefully finish the trachea rebuild tomorrow.”
Eli moved over placed a hand softly on her head, “Im sorry little one, I have to wake you up for a minute”
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicShe stirred slightly. The contact brought his emotions into focus through her sleep. A sense of care and concern.
Noril watched him carefully. He clenched a fist. “Her father let this happen. To his own daughter.” He sighed then and let his tension release. “Their doctor wasn’t very helpful.”
~ N, Captain
She blinked once and opened her eyes. “So upset. Don’t be.” It was how things were. She didn’t like it, but that was the way things were.
She reached up and rubbed her neck gently. It hurt now. Maybe she did too much.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril set a hand on her shoulder. “Why’d you have to wake her?”
~ N, Captain
Vash grinned, “Likes my company.” But she winced as she spoke. It really hurt now.
Eli looked at him but did not say anything because he was about to find out. “This is going to shock your system a bit, its a cold pack to take down the swelling in your throat, I don’t want to risk an anti inflammatory right now” he said then waited for her to give him the ok, he glanced over at Noril with nod hoping he understood why he just addressed her, it was always better to address the patient
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicVash just nodded to Eli, rather than speak again. She wondered if he would up the neural suppressor again. She didn’t really want to do that or suggest it. She could forgo talking so that she could think straight.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli smiled, “I do like your company” he agreed, “but in this case I’m just enjoying torturing you” he quibbled as he secured the cold pack Lightly wrapping a bandage halfway securing the pack with the rest it was firm but lose enough to not hurt or slip off. It also kept the back off her skin. He rubbed her head like you would a child.” Good Girl” he smirk.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicVash raised a brow, her look challenging, as if telling him he would have to try a lot harder to torture her. The ice was shocking, but after a moment it soothed the acje in her throat. She set a hand over Eli’s in thanks and then closed her eyes again.
Noril nodded, he understood. Besides, even if “legally” he did own her, he didn’t think of it that way. She wasn’t a pet, she was a person, who deserved to be spoken to like a person. He set a hand gently against her again. You can always talk to me telepathically, he said to her.
~ N, Captain
She didn’t open her eyes or smile, but he could sense it. I do like talking to you telepathically. I think it’s my new favorite thing.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Noril smiled and she felt the joy and affection that comment made him feel. Good. Then we’ll make sure to do it often.
Promises promises she teased. Sisnil’s coming. She felt his presence or his essence. It was different than Noril.
At that time, Sisnil returned. “Elias, right? Thanks… for helping her.” He said. He didn’t need an update - he and Noril were always in contact.
~ N, Captain
Her eyes cracked open just slightly and landed on him. She wiggled her fingers at him tiredly before her eyes slipped closed again. He felt a wave of gratitude from her before she slipped back into a doze.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Sisnil smiled and she felt his satisfaction and joy at seeing her doing okay through her connection with Noril.
~ N, Captain
ah this must be the captain, he thought, time for some answers, “Eli, is fine, he noted, I’m glad your crewmen found me when they did, how did she get so bad?” he asked, his eyes focused, but he was open to a reasonable explanation.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicSisnil got this dark, grave expression on his face. “Vash is a slave, awarded to us for deeds done for an Orion house.” He said, “by her father. He let her be attacked and his useless doctor wasn’t that concerned with helping.” He turned to Vash, expression softening. “I thought we had more time… But she got sicker before we could find a doctor.”
~ N, Captain
Eli was boiling inside but at this point he was not sure who really was responsible it sure seemed that the twin mind blasters were concerned for her. “And what exactly do you see my role being here once she’s healed?” he asked
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicSisnil gave him an apprising look - sizing him up, but the twins together were also testing his mind. At last, an answer from Sisnil, “Whatever you want. I never asked you to stay on, but we do need a medic.” He gave Eli a shrewd look. “We’re Syndicate, Eli. There’s certain things you’ll have to go in expecting.”
~ N, Captain
Suspicion and scheming were normal emotions that swirled around Vash in her world. She could and did sleep through them (otherwise she would never sleep). Anger, care, compassion, concern, unmitigated Rage were not. They roused her from her sleep again. She forced her eyes open, “What?” her voice croaked around the swelling and pain in her throat, and she sounded extremely sleepy. Something was wrong, she couldn’t be weak.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli looked at him, “I don’t care about that, as long as I get paid.” he could tell that he didn’t really care about much, not even himself. his anger subsided as he set a hand down on Vash. “Shhhhh, go back to sleep” he said
Elias “Eli” Trenor
Medic“Yelling,” she muttered, the care in the contact relaxing her. They hadn’t been yelling, but their emotions had been and she could sense it. Now that she was better, her >>empathic senses were more under control. But she was exhausted so in the mostly asleep state it felt like yelling to her and didn’t register as their emotions.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
“You’ll get the same deal as everyone else, equal share of any jobs we get.” Sisnil replied. Noril set a hand on Vash too. “Nothing’s wrong. It’s okay.”
~ N, Captain
There was a small thread of acceptance and then quiet.
Eli gave a nod, “More than I was expecting, if you want me I’ll stick around” he noted, “If you’re going to stay here, I could use a couple hours of sleep myself”
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicBoth twins nodded. “Go,” Sisnil said. Noril set a hand on Vash. “I won’t leave her.”
~ N, Captain
Eli looks her and then them, “Come get me if anything changes on those little displays” he said points. “No exceptions” he said then turned to go find a empty set of quarters to go crash in.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicShe slept deeply, and didn’t move much. Much different from when Noril had woken her in her father’s house and she was sick. Polar opposites from how she was in the trip to find Elias. Errant dreams didn’t even disturb her. Her body needed rest and took full advantage of it.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
The brothers sat with her silently, almost as if sitting vigil over her. They were keeping tabs on her mind and the ship, but they say quietly and sleeplessly, waiting for her to wake.
~ N, Captain
Vash slept through the night. There were no huge changes in her readings. A number up here then down there but stayed level. The ice pack did it’s job and soothed the pain in her throat making it easier to sleep. She woke slowly, aware of people around her, but so tired she was tempted to go back to sleep.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
You can go back to sleep, Noril’s voice said in her mind. I’m right here. Just like I promised.
~ N, Captain
Noril? His name was whispered, sleepily, half question half recognition. A feeling of longing came from her and then she slipped back to sleep.
Vashkilu, Infiltrator
Eli’s dreams were chaotic, some good some bad, he was starting to go through withdrawal. He thrashed about in his bunk and with a loud scream “MARAA” he awoke in a pool of sweat, reaching in his bag he pulled another flask and started to drink it.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicSisnil was at the door in mere minutes, knocking quite loudly. “Eli?”
~ N, Captain
Eli looked at the door, “I’m off duty, leave me be” he shouted and took another swig off the flask. He was not about to let somebody he just met dictate his off time.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
Medic“Something felt wrong,” Sisnil said from outside the door. “You’re alright?”
~ N, Captain
Eli let out a sigh stood put his shirt on to cover he heavily scared back, he did not like people feeling sorry for him. He opened the door and walked back to his bunk, “Bad dreams” he said as he sat down, “You’ll have to get used to that.”
Elias “Eli” Trenor
MedicHe stood in the entry way to the door. “I will. It’s not uncommon,” he said with a shrug. “It felt physical, too.” He said.
~ N, Captain
Maybe it was because he was tired or because he did not know the man, but he did not feel the need to hide or justify himself. So he spoke plainly. “Withdrawal” he said, “At least I’m guessing that’s what you felt.
Elias “Eli” Trenor
Medic
