Oneshe had heard rumors and rumblings about his new boss. Or, bosses? He went over in his mind what information he had gathered. Twin telepaths, who report to the syndicate. That girl he had met was, as far as he knew, theirs. Still no idea how her pheromones were so strong.

He had many questions but wasn’t too concerned about the answers. At this point he was just happy for the ride. So when by coincidence he caught up with the Captain in the corridor, he wasn’t too interested in any more than small talk.

“Good Evening, Captain,” he greeted, “It is a very nice ship you have here. Very roomy, very accommodating.”

“You don’t have to call me captain all the time,” Noril said. He could sense Oneshe’s questions, but he did not seem interested in answering them. “I’m glad you like it. It’ll be home, more or less, for as long as you’re crew.”

“Right, crew,” he said, “I don’t mind that. I suppose when I came on board, in my excitement I…” He wasn’t expecting something long term. That girl had distracted him.

“Not that I mind.”

“There’s no repercussions if you want to back out,” Noril said. “We’re Syndicate. We do things that… you have to be prepared for, and we don’t always have a choice in the matter.”

“Believe me, I don’t mind. I do have a bad habit of ‘jumping in blind’, as they say. Not in the habit of asking too many questions. As long as you can continue to afford my services, which I’m sure you can. Your ship, your slave… don’t think I didn’t notice.”

He laughed, because in his mind it was a compliment. To him, it was apparent by his possessions, including Vash, that Noril was living quite comfortably.
