The old but venerable Monolith’s were equipped with reliable but rudimentary guidance thrusters, equipment meant to do a job for a century without issue but the previous crews needed more than crude and reliable, so after rounds of tinkering to adjust the throughput through the deLaval nozzles to account for greater isentropic flow, the fusion reactor outputs were rigged through magnetic accelerators before the thrusters to increase power output by 22%, and general fusion reaction was increased across the ship by reducing emissions control circuitry and bypassing other safety equipment that ensured the ship would never pass an inspection, but that wasn’t the idea was it?

When the Korda’s weapons hit the ship, the primary fusion reactors were undamaged but the plasma manifold feeding the port thrusters was knocked out of alignment, leaking plasma in the space between the docking latches. Thankfully the ship’s systems are smart enough to cut flow through the damaged manifold, but until it’s repaired the old bird will have much poorer control.

TJ enter the engineer room of the ship. He looked over the ships systems. Seeing the state of the propulsion system; he was somewhat pleased. =/= At least the system was working the way it was suppose to do.=/=he thought. Now all TJ had to do was fix the leakhow

Rivers Eng

Everything comes with a price it would seem, as when TJ approached the docking latches to attempt access to fix to the manifold, the heat radiating from the main junction panels radiated danger and that it wouldn’t be as easy as he had expected. Perhaps those safety systems that had been bypassed in the pursuit of extra power output and thruster efficiency were coming back to bite the crew now.

Vashkilu, Infiltrator

Of course, the heat would increase to a point he couldn’t get close. He’d have to redirect the heat to somewhere else to get the latches back together. The question was how to do it

Rivers Eng

TJ would find that the manifold access junction was readily accessible, if however rather small wherein the manual heat sinks could be dumped to space and replaced with new ones. Ships of this design were equipped with 200kilo finned blocks at specific junctions composed of a bonded toradyne alloy designed to soak up heat and be ejected from the system.

If TJ could reach them, or some ones small enough could climb into the access junction, they could dump the saturated heat sinks and work on the manifold after the process was complete.

Luckily for TJ, a small Orion boy was on his way.

Vashkilu, Infiltrator

The small Orion boy indeed showed up soon thereafter and looked up at the adult, a hopeful glimmer in his eyes and he bounced on his toes with nervous energy. “So the plasma diverter thingy isn’t aligned right and I saw that from the bridge and the captain said that if I thought I could help I should go down here and I kinda got lost on they way but I made it and I have repaired ones like ‘em before in the mines so this is just a big one so what do we need to do?” He said hyperactivley as he continued to bounce before resting on his soles and looked to the man with pleading eyes.

TJ looked over the young Orion. He was the perfect size for what needed to be done. TJ was surprised that this youngster had done this before. “Well, since you’ve done this before I could use someone like you. I’m too big to get in there and get to the junction. You; on the other hand; are perfect to get in there to relieve the heat and fix the manifold. Think you do that?”

Rivers-Eng

“Uh huh!” The boy said with a grin as he clambered up the pipes and found his footing on a small ledge as he pried open the access hatch. It was hot but not all too unpleasant as he pushed himself into the area and wiggled himself into a seating position. His feet dangled down as swore softly to himself before shouting down, “Can you hand me like… some tools or something?” He may be a mechanical wiz but he couldn’t do anything with just his hands. He kicked his legs back and forth waiting for the man to figure out how to get him the tools.

An engineer was nothing without his tools. TJ knew that very. If he wanted this orion boy to help him he would need to supply him with what he needed. “No problem.” TJ passed the boy a tool kit. He hadn’t been able to check if he had a full kit. But, at this point; it would have to do.

Rivers-eng

The boy grabbed tools without so much as a word from him as he clambered up into the access hatch and opened the kit up. It was missing more than half of what should be there however he had enough to work with, or rather, enough to kludge together a solution. He first started by hot-wiring the servos to the open position, dumping the heat sinks into open space as he tried to work out how to get the new ones in place, “Um… Hey mister? Do you know where what color wire it is to load new heat sinks?” He asked as the man could hear clanging and banging from up above.

~Jaiturk, PIT~

That was a very good question. If TJ was right it should be the red wire. Of course he hadn’t done this in awhile. It had been awhile since he had worked on a ship quite this old. He was used to tinkering. He had been in Starfleet R&D for years. “Red. That should be the one.”

Rivers eng

As he clambered about, Jai’s brand new overalls and undershirt snagged and tore on the various outcroppings of bent or twisted metal, making the boy swear loudly in the access hatch as he was so happy to have new clothes for once! He put a foot down delicately and felt the bulkhead was far warmer than usual, a good sign that he needed to work quickly as he gingerly stepped and pushed himself around as he found the wire in a jumble of at least 20 other wires, some corroded and frayed, luckily the red wire was intact. He snipped it and using one of the tools provided was able to send an input signal down the wire to the heatsink servos, forcing them to load fresh ones while he patched the wire back together. He was getting rather warm and sweat started to pour off of him in that cramped little area. As soon as he heard the thudding of the new heatsinks he clambered his way out of the access, dropping down onto the piping he had used to climb up and wiping his brow before saying, “Ok.... that’s done… What now mister?”

~Jaiturk, PIT~

TJ thought about the process. They would need to put the manifold back together next. Then they should be done. “We need to put the manifold back together. Whatever you need I’ll get.”

Rivers-Eng

bump

The boy let out a sigh and a stretch as he took small steps around the room, looking at the various piles of parts and tools. “Do we have an um… dang it what was it called? A um… Oh, duh, a tricorder?” He asked as the information it would provide would be exceptionally helpful in diagnosing the manifold. He started to dig a little before he found some spare parts and paused, turning and saying, “Ok so it was out of alignment right? Am I overthinking this? Do we just need to like, play with it until it goes back in where it’s supposed to?” Jai asked, his language very childlike in it’s nature but he was onto something.
