Vash was somewhere between out cold and semi conscious. It would be a blessing if she were completely unconscious, but the pain was too intense to let her mind slip into oblivion. Being transferred from Noril to Eli caused immense pain, and even in her state her body arched and she screamed in pain. Those around her were suddenly hit with a wave of nausea as her Deltan gifts projected her agony outward.

They had beamed aboard the ship and Jai felt the familiar cold metal of bulkheads beneath his feet as he stepped forward and nodded at the Captain’s orders not to touch anything. It was a design he wasn’t familiar with and he uttered, “Sha’k’la’den” under his breath. (The phrase being a Low Orion swear used primarily by children meaning ‘damn’ or to be ever so gently more polite, ‘wow’. Keep in mind there isn’t a precise translation available and the phrase has far more meaning and connotation behind the simple English we see here) He had uttered the phrase when he saw the panels, valves, buttons, and things he hadn’t seen on the slaver ships. So many little things to play with and touch….

It was often like that onboard slaver vessels, the crew compartments and the slave compartments kept separate, and the slave sections usually devoid of any interactive panels or equipment, lest the slaves get any bright ideas.

He heard the pretty lady scream out before feeling an urge to throw up, to the point of clutching his stomach and heaving a couple times before recovering, managing to keep his meager lunch inside of himself for the time being.

—Jai, passenger—

Noril gave Vash to Eli. “Numb her senses. The pain is too much.” For the Betazoid, it was difficult to focus. Her deltan gifts aside, his empathy was strong and her pain was felt by him. He glanced at Jai, the kid’s ideas obvious in his head, “I meant it, don’t go touching things.”

~ N, Captain

Eli Scooped Vash up gently and was already turning to take her to sickbay when the order was given, “Aye” was all he shouted back. Her combined Orion and Deltan physiology was normally a great asset, as it turns out it had the side effect of feeling pain at a level which no normal human could manage all while projecting it to those around her. Eli winched as he made contact with her, it was like someone was taking a hot iron to his entire body, he was not stranger to pain however the Cardasian’s had seen to that. His mind went numb focusing only on what had to be done, both for her sake and his. “Hang in there little one, I got you.” he said softly.

He crossed his arms and pouted as he looked up at the captain, “I wasn’t gonna…” he said as he walked away from the bossy man, muttering “Gleb’nar” under his breath in relation to the captain, another phrase from his homeworld roughly translating to bossy-pants’. He didn’t know if the captain had heard him but he paced around a small area waiting to be seen by the doctor. He knew well that the pretty lady came first, his shoulder ached but he was ok.

Despite the man treating him like a little kid and insisting that he don’t touch anything, he was grateful for the rescue and wanted to stick with these folks as long as he could, their lives must be SOOOO exciting if this is what they get into. Better than fixing replicators for low level mob wannabes on backwater colonies.

—Jai, Pirate Hopeful—

Eli placed her softly on the bio bed, trying to no cause her more sensation the needed. The bio bed screamed to life with alarms, her brain activity was like a lighting storm. Her heart rate screamed at him compelling him to do something. he started looking at the readings further, glancing back and fort as he found the right cocktail of drugs, a mixture of sedatives and a neural inhibiter. He prayed her body could take the initial jolt, as he injected here with the mixture. He placed his had on her head as he continued to watch the bio monitor for changes. “You can do it girly, time for a little nap, Eli has you now” he said softly

Fire and pain and agony filled her mind and screamed outward. She was aware of Noril, and then another touch. Also familiar. Eli even though her mind was too gone to consciously recognize him, but instinct knew she was safe.

The sedative hit and she was suddenly in oblivion. The inhibitor took a handful of seconds longer. Eli knew when it started working because her pain he was forced to feel began to fade rapidly. Her vitals were all over, but they began to level out even if they weren’t great.

Her entire upper back and the back of her right knee was covered in second, almost third, degree burns.

Jai watched as the good doctor took the pretty lady and laid her down, and scampered over, pushing up on his toes to look over her on the bio bed. She wasn’t moving, he wanted to reach out and touch her but backed up a little, flatting his stance and backing into the wall to get out of the way. As the doctor injected something he felt something go away, he wasn’t sure and he wouldn’t know that the pain and distress leaving him was a sign of unconsciousness and analgesia rather than something worse. She was limp, unnaturally so, and the boy wasn’t old enough or knowledgeable enough to have any clue. “is.... is she dead?” Jai said as he felt a tear or two rising to his eyes as he walked slowly over, careful steps as he pushed up again on his toes to look at her, unsure if she was breathing or not as he reached out to touch her arm. It was cold as he recoiled and pulled his hand back and felt a tightness in his chest.

The boy had seen death, heck, he’d used someone’s intestines once to fix a machine long enough to keep the shielding up before someone could be back with the right part. Sure the person was already dead, and he didn’t know them, but the pretty lady? He’d tried to shoot thugs for her, he’d been shot trying to help her, and he just watched her die? His breath quickened as he backed up again and sat down, hugging his knees and staring up at her.
