“Ok that’s enough!” Jaiturk shouted as he stamped a foot down in the dusty road, the boy’s eyes fixed on a larger child who looked like he could easily break the 10 year old in two. It was a young Bajoran teen named Jaelo Tryad, maybe 14 at the oldest, trying to earn a credit or two selling home made Jumja sticks in the city square. He knew his place, and he knew what would happen if he didn’t pay his fee. He remembered what happened to Xovris Dirr, a 12 year old Tellarite mechanic, well enough. He failed to pay Jaiturk his protection fee one day and the next? Each and every tool broken and unusable. He was heart broken as those tools were a gift from his father to help the family get by. But he knew the rules…

“Ok ok…” Jaelo replied as he fished out the usual fee, 10 credits, and handed them to the smaller Orion who smiled at the older kid and reached over, grabbing a small Jumja stick and sticking it in his mouth. “Very good, I’ll see you tomorrow Jaelo…” Jaiturk said as he turned to walk away.

Xorvis approached Jai and said, “I’ve got the protection money from the Cardassian twins and the Korda girl but… she said we might have trouble…” As it turns out Xorvis was a fantastic lieutenant. After getting shaken down and seeing what Jai was capable of, he approached the Orion with a proposal. He joins Jai, helping to create a small band of thugs and thieves, in return he gets a decent cut and the power as second in command. That was over a year ago and the relationship had at times been tense, but through their growing criminal enterprise the boys had become fast friends.

Jai let out a chuckle before throwing his hands behind his head and clasping them together, laughing out loud before dropping them down and leaning against a building, crossing his legs and digging his toes into the dirt, lowering and shaking his head as the laugh drew to a close. He looked up at Xorvis, “You really think the Korda will care that we stole Anastasia’s pocket money? Those syndicate pretending phonies have made enough money to buy her a a palace, we twisted her arm for 20 credits! We’ll be fine…” he said, a little unsure of himself as he said it out loud.

—Jaiturk, Brat—

A ragged little urchin by the name of Kmlie came running up. “Jaiturk, Xorvis. You gotta come quick. Lana had little Mep with her working the space dock like she does. Someone beat them up real bad.” Lana was maybe six and lame and her little brother Mep wasn’t two yet. She begged for scraps and credits by the dock. She knew where everything was and would get some kind soul to hire her as a guide around the port center. She was loyal to Jai. She needed the protection and she willingly shared what she had.

As Kmlie spoke, you would swear that Jai’s skin turned from pale green to bright red with fury as he heard the tale from the little urchin. He balled his fists and looked to Xorvis, “With me. Grab the weapon.” He said as he turned to march off towards the docks Xorvis asked, “What weapon? You’re as clear as the Mutura Nebula sometimes!” as he held his arms out and shook his head. Jai turned and cocked his head to one side, “I swear to the syndicate you are the about 2 seconds from me breaking your fingers again. Grab the weapon we’ve been working on, and anything you want to use. We have some scores to settle.” Xorvis rolled his eyes “Oh that’s smart. Threaten your second in command on the way to go crack some heads, that’s real smart of you there boss…” He quipped as he rummaged around inside of their little camp and brought out two devices, the first was what Xorvis preferred, a pair of crude bands of osmium salvaged from discarded warp shielding components on which were laid a lattice of boridium filaments on insulating gloves with each of the lattices hooked to a discarded phaser power cell. While not enough to energize a phaser coil, the energy output when hooked directly to the boridium lattice was plenty to cause a stunning effect as well as leave a cross hatch pattern burn on the victim. The other weapon which was to be Jaiturk’s was something else entirely.

Xorvis caught up and handed Jaiturk the device and quietly walked along side the younger boy, knowing that when the boss got this angry, someone was leaving with at least one thing broken.

–Jaiturk, The Boss–

Kmlie led the way to the small port. Lana and Mep were down a side alley. “They were right here, but I got them back there. ‘Fraid someone come back and do more. I hid ‘em.” Kmlie squirmed with his hands, nervous Jai would be angry with him if he didn’t do the right thing. They could hear Mep crying. It wasn’t his typical, I’m not getting my way or hungry. He was in pain. Kmlie led them to the back of the alley where he had hidden the pair behind some old crates and a discarded canvas to keep the sun off of them.
