Kate glared at the XO as he attempted to make his exit. It quite clearly came across as an attempt to pawn the man off on her and, while she didn’t mind, precisely… she added a grin to soften the glare and nodded at him. “Commander.”

Trent, SOO

Once the XO was out of earshot Simon spoke.

“Well he’s a charming fellow,” Simon said casually, “So, Strategic Operations Officer? Have you worked with Ben before?”

Kate mentally grimaced that she hadn’t managed to make an escape with Foley. Oh well, this seemed like it would fall under part of the job of being involved in the various information sources on the starbase.

“I haven’t,” she replied, simply. “Have you? What’s your interest in him?”

Trent, SOO

“My interest is purely professional,” Simon replied, “He’s a Starfleet Captain that is married to a high up Admiral in the diplomatic corp. Not only would my readers be interested in his affairs, of which there are many, he is on friendly terms with a number of ambassadors. Long and short, he and his associates are a source of news.”

Kate’s eyebrow shot up as she listened to Simon’s response. While she had been tangentially aware of the captain’s personal background, she hadn’t quite connected what a significant impact it could have on his career – more importantly, it also made him a target. She shook her head slightly, nudging those thoughts to the side as she focused on the comments by the reporter. “It seems like you might want to keep your interest strictly to his professional business too,” she commented back, her tone still light but slightly more firm. “We have officers who would be more than happy to speak to you about any news, through official channels.”
