IC:

“Well, I tend to accept whatever Starfleet throws my way,” Kate commented with a grin. “But I’m not opposed to slowing down a little bit. I’ve been on the run, so to speak, since I graduated from the Academy.” If Kate had any concerns about adjusting to life on the Magellan, she wasn’t showing them.

Chandel tilted her head curiously as she asked,”That change of pace won’t bother you?”

Counselor Chandel

Kate offered a small shrug as her initial response to the question as she took a lengthy sip of her beverage. “I don’t really know, to be honest,” she commented, her voice quieting slightly. “I guess we’ll both just have to see. Maybe I’ll actually have time to contemplate a hobby.” She said the last part with a laugh that indicated it was a genuine joke. Her head tilted to the side slightly as she studied Chandel. “Do you have any advice?”

“A hobby…well what catches your interest? What do you like to do? Read, paint, study stars?” Chandel asked leaning forward as she waited for the answer, her thoughts going back to her conversation with the CMO on the observation deck while he painted the nebula out the viewport. That very painting hung on the wall beside her desk as he had gifted it to her.

The question genuinely stumped Kate. “Honestly, while I’d like to think I’m a well-rounded individual, my focus over the last decade has been almost exclusively on work. What little free time I had was spent reading dossiers or working out.” She paused for a moment to contemplate the choices that Chandel had presented. “I guess I have my work cut out for me finding something to do with my spare time.”
