“It’s cold,” thought the trader. “I hate the cold.”

Buran Mord had been a mineral trader in, what he affectionately referred to as, the armpit of the Federation for twenty years. Armpit isn’t exactly what he called it, but it was better to use that term in polite company. Not that he was in polite company very often.

Like the fur trappers of old, Mord ventured to and from small asteroids and planets with isolated mining camps and traded supplies for the ore, which was then brought back to starbases, sold and new goods purchased. Normally he went to 152, or 117, or anywhere but near the Romulan boarder. He preferred Klingons, if he was being honest. Less sneaky.

He had heard rumors though, of a couple of rocks in the void, that inky darkness uncontrolled by anyone. Sure there were some camps there, and they had a lot of ore, but they also had a lot of gambling dens. It was worth the risk, he thought at the time. Didn’t quite pay off like he had hoped.

And so Mord, low on fuel had to make a choice: freeze in that no man’s land, or go to a base he wasn’t familiar with. It was bad enough he had to strike a deal with the pirates to have enough fuel to get to the point he could make a choice. This is what led him to pointing his little merchant vessel towards Starbase Magellan instead of further away, to the territory he knew.

“Its cold, in the void,” he continued his inner monologue as he grew closer to the station. “But I have debts to pay.” Grumbling he pushed the comm button on his consol. =/\= SS Fairwind to Starbase Magellan. Requesting permission to dock.=/\= He grumbled again as the comm flicked off and he waited.

“I hate the cold.”
