“I suppose you’re right,” Odraavi spoke quietly, offering a small scoff-like chuckle. “Maybe if I hadn’t spent so much time realizing what could go wrong, I might have followed a far different path. One might suppose you can say the Universe has a funny way of working out like that. Or, you could say it is simply intuition.” She thought for a second, “Their decisions and their actions reflected poorly on themselves, making them out to be a couple of very little respect. My father was dishonorably discharged, and my mother chose to go with him. Maybe it was one of this things that was simply, ‘I don’t want to live like that,’ so.. I didn’t.”Dr. Odraavi
“It takes a certain kind of strength to say no to a cycle you are stuck in the middle of. Family is complicated.... in any language, in any culture, in any life.” She ate a bite, chewed and then continued thoughtfully. “I wonder what would I have done if my father had not died. If he had lived, would my mother have made the choice to leave Krios. Would she ever have grown tired enough of being in that environment to leave.. or would she have stayed, complacent in her home life regardless of the risks of being on a Klingon occupied world? I don’t think I will ever know, but it does make me wonder from time to time. I don’t have a lot of time on my hands to day dream these days though.”

“Yes.. that it is, Captain.” Nisihe quietly agreed, her mind adrift to thoughts and memories that she hadn’t had the time to reflect upon, in quite awhile. She wondered where her parents were, how they were doing. She pondered what had happened to Elmira or the Ael, both friends she had made at the Academy. After they departed, they kept contact for a short while, but eventually the three departed and ended up being reassigned from the Enigma, to other places. Shaking her head, she was glad that the conversation was off of her. Odraavi was a rather secretive person, tending to keep mostly to herself, so it was nice to remain that way. “You have the right to dream and ponder, eh? It is always interesting to wonder about the future or even the past, should you have taken a different path or should an element have been changed. Though, it is never good to dwell on these subjects, which I doubt very much that you do. However, to dwell on what doesn’t exist often robs you of the ability to understand the beauty in what does, be it chaotic or graceful.”
Dr. Odraavi
CMOWhile Odraavi contemplated her own past, Briony ate the food, sipped her rootbeer float which had become more like a creamy drink than ice cream and rootbeer and watched the people below. She gave the woman time and sat in companionable silence until conversation was ready to be had once more. “It can be negative to dwell, but it can also be important to reflect on one’s decisions and where those decisions have led someone in their life. Knowing past mistakes, missteps and even one’s celebrated
successes can help to better one’s future. I started down a path that would have left me very likely in some bad places. My mother turned me around and pointed me on a new path. I choose to take it and that has led me here. While I would have rather stayed on the Atlantis for many reasons, I don’t see my transfer here as a negative. I am a good Captain with a good head on my shoulders. This place needs that.”Briony, CO
“You are confident,” Nisihe remarked, her tone much softer than the Captain’s. Which happened to be characteristic of her and her Betazoid nature. “If more than anything, we need a Captain with the confidence to believe in herself, just as much as she believes in her crew. For the latter cannot come without the former.” Nisihe took a sip of her water, allowing for the Captain to respond, if she wished to. “You seem as though you have had quite the life behind you. Perhaps that will be a defining force that allows you to make the most of your captaincy, here.” She paused, “Just remember, as off-topic as this might be, you aren’t alone out here. You might be our captain, but we are your crew and we are here for you just as much as you are, for us.” She commented, “That good head of yours, might just be the key to our prosperity, here in the middle of chaos.”
Dr. Odraavi
CMOShe didn’t take Dr. Odraavi’s statement about her confidence as negative. It could have been meant to be so, but Briony did not think it was and the follow up proved her to be correct. The doctor seemed to care very much about her crew. Not only did she have a passion for her work but she cared about the crew being a cohesive whole as well as the individual. At least, that was Briony’s take on the woman. “I shall try to remember I am not alone. Sometimes its a hole that Captains fall into… some far more easily than they should. Do you think that is from your own experience of getting sucked into your work, or merely a statement?”
Briony, CO
Captain Briony wasn’t wrong. Odraavi took to heart, each patient she was meant to heal. For her, there were no boundaries between Federation and what rested outside. A patient was a patient, and as a doctor, it was her civil duty to ensure they had the best possible care that could be given to them, Starfleet enemy or not. In that respect, came the ideal of being a part of a crew but also a singular person. As an individual, she was a healer. As a member of the crew, she was a stepping stone that was a piece of the basis of one large, familial organism. Quietly, Nisihe observed the Captain, as she spoke. She discovered this woman to be, seemingly, a force to be reckoned with, as if she could maintain both peace yet bring the thunder, when it must be brought. Of course, the Doctor did not search for a certification in this thought, as it was merely an opinion.
“From experience, sir.” Odraavi eventually responded, taking a sip of the water she had gotten, whose ice had melted into the body it once was. “There are not many things common between a doctor and a Captain. The one thing that always reigns to be, however, is we are both easily consumed by the world around us. Fighting for our crew, or the lives of our patient; risking it all to make things right, for a purpose or a practice; becoming consumed in our duties to effectively support those around us; and, most of all, caring undeniably for the people we protect, or the people we heal. You and I walk very different paths, Briony; but we are one in the same.” She remarked, referencing they were both officers working for a specific purpose.
Odraavi
CMOBriony knew the doctor was making an analogy of their responsibilities. She was correct in thinking that they were very similar if not the same in their paths. Briony was in charge of the entirety of this station, but so too was Odraavi. The well being of the crew and the civilians here was important to both women, albiet in different ways. Odraavi was more about their mental and physical well being on a micro level whereas Briony was more on the macro level. There was plenty of differences between the two women’s duties, but the commonality was definitely as described by the Doctor.
“You know Dr. Odraavi. I really like how you think. I find that you are intelligent and wise, a very good combination. I am glad to know that you are a part of my senior staff here. I am also glad that you invited me to dinner. I am thinking we will make excellent friends. You remind me of my previous XO.”
Briony, CO
“Thank you, sir. This base has been going under quite the change, these last few weeks to months, and you seem to bring an air of stability. I can only hope that you are able to remain with us for a long time.” Odraavi’s smile falterer to befome a neutral expression, “It would be a shame to ever have to lose such a promising Captain.” She believed in Briony, finding that there was something unique about the Kriosian woman. However, as observant as those obsidian eyes happen to be, she could not pinpoint what it was.
Taking a sip of her water, she set it down. “Friendship? I could drink to that, any day.” She laughed, despite the truth behind her words. Checking a nearby chronometer, she rose a brow. “This was an evening to remember, Captain. Thank you for accepting the offer of a stranger, for dinner.” After this evening, Odraavi felt closer to Briony, which would assist in their work rapport, as time wore on and the Magellan was thrown to the winds of adversity, once more. “It has been a pleasure, being able to come to know you more than just a commanding voice.”
Briony grinned and nodded. “IT certainly has been a pleasure. Enjoy the rest of your evening doctor.”
She glanced about, searching for the Bolian man, so she could get their dinner taken care of. “However, with as pleasant as this is, we both have work tomorrow. And, for a new Captain, you might need all the rest you can get, before the chaos ensues.”

The Bolian looked over and quickly brought the Doctor her bill. As always the Bolian man was in a pleasant and kind mood. “And if it pleases you Dr. Odraavi, we can create a tab as we have with most of the senior staff and bill you weekly. I hope you enjoyed the meal we prepared for you. Perhaps you will order the Gagh again soon!”
Briony chuckled, hiding her amusement behind her hand. Odraavi had been brave but she doubted the Doctor would ever order the meal again. “Good Night Doctor.”
