“I probably have Section 31, Tal Shiar and KI too. I do not think it is unreasonable for a station commander to have expectations from any undercover operative that exposes himself. My expectations are a lot less restricting to you than other commanders may expect. Drug runners are everywhere. Mercenaries & Murderers less so, but if, as you suggest that you and FedSec know who and where they are, why are they free? And does your inaction make you guilty of aiding and abetting. Just something else for you to ponder.”

Pikelsimer smiled a cold and emotionless smile. “I said ‘cohort’. Last time I checked, that wasn’t a crime.” and he held out his hand for the privacy generator. “At least, you better hope it’s not. Heard a rumor that you yourself are a former cohort of a known fugitive.”

“That is not just a rumour. I’ve never made any denial of my friendships and associations,” Ben replied, “You can ask anyone who remotely knows me.”

“You now, the only contentious part of all of this came from you. I get you’re frustrated, but taking it out on me wasn’t your best idea. I would have been happy to work with ya. Maybe even lend a hand outside of my operational framework, if needed.” and the older man shook his head. “Bit of advice. There is a time to lay it on the table to see whose is bigger; and there’s a time to make friends when they are offered. You might want to work on knowing the difference. It’ll make your life a lot less… complicated. See ya, Gillespie.” and he turned and walked to the door.

Pikelsimer

“See you in two days,” Ben replied. Once Pikelsimer was gone he sent a message to the COS requesting his presence.

Braxton appeared shortly after he received the message. “Lieutenant Harris reporting as ordered Sir”

Harris, CoS

“Please, take a seat. There is a delicate matter that I’d like one of your team to look into. Micah Pikelsimer was a highly decorated officer, but I just had a meeting with him, and… something didn’t sit right, for a character of that background,” Ben said, “I could do with someone to verify that the man claiming to be Pikelsimer actually is, and if so, just keep a discreet eye on his associates.”

Braxton nodded in an understandable fashion “of course Sir. If you don’t mind me asking, what gave you the uneasy feeling of him?” Braxton didn’t know the man, but whatever it is has left him curious.

Harris, CoS

“Just an ‘itch’ if you like,” Ben said inprecisely, “I’d love for you to tell me that I have nowt to worry about, and if that were the case I suspect he’d be quite offended that I had asked someone to check. I don’t want to offend the honest traders we get here. You know more than most how rare it is to find a trader that has no bit on the side in these parts.”
