Upon receiving the CNS’ message, Odraavi promptly opened the ‘reply’ window, knowing better than to put it off as she had the previous years.

[Chandel,

Thank you for the reminder. What appointments do you have available after 1600hrs?

Dr. Odraavi]

She wasn’t going to compromise her duties for a psych evaluation, so she hoped Chandel had later appointments.

The response came back almost immediately.
[Dr. Ordaavi

I have the early slots of 1615, 1630, and 1645 if you would like any of those.

Counselor Chandel]

Counselor Chandel

[Counselor,

1630 would be perfect, just to be safe. Thank you!

“Crap!” Nisihe muttered. If she had not drearily glanced at the chronometer beside her, she wouldn’t have realised she was almost late for her appointment with the Counselor. Closing out of her work, Odraavi rushed to finish up for the evening. Despite her prestige in the medical field, she had never been known for her punctuality outside of the Sickbay. Rush had become routine.

“Doctor Banx!” She called out for the Bolian man, tucking her PaDD beneath her arm as she slipped from her office onto the floor. Surveying the examination sector, Odraavi struggled to locate the elusive doctor. Cursing under her breath, she quickly check the other sections of the Sickbay, searching for any sign of Banx. “Banx? Ba- there you are!” She caught sight of him exiting the supply closet. Opening his mouth to speak, she cut him off. “I need you to take over an hour early tonight.”

“Uh.. sure, ma’am.” Banx slowly nodded, perplexed at her request. “What do you need done?”

“Standard procedure, just like every night. Sorry, I got to go!” Waving as she passed, Nisihe rushed away, leaving Banx momentarily perplexed. Turning over her wrist, she checked the time. 1629. Oh she msot certainly was going to be late. Internally groaning, Odraavi made her way down the deck, keeping an eye out for the Counselor’s office, just in case she overlooked it.

Minutes passed, but they felt like seconds to a frazzled Betazoid. There was a reason she shied away from appointments outside the Sickbay, and this happened to be it. Halting before the counselor’s office, Nisihe peered at the plaque to make sure she was in the right place. A hand snaking through her hair in effort to hide her stress, Odraavi pressed her finger against the chime. Releasing a breath, she stepped back to await response.

  1. She was late.

Fashionably Late

Chandel was sitting on her couch in the sitting area of her office going through various crew files when her door chimed.”Come.” She called as she rose and set her data padd aside on one of the side tables. The door whooshed open and let the CMO see the lush autumn tones of the office and the Counselor standing down in the recessed floor area where her couch and side chairs were situated.”Please come in, Doctor. It’s good to see you, I was afraid you might have been called away for an emergency.” Chandel said.

Counselor Chandel

“Thank you, Counselor.” Nisihe made her way into the office, surprised at the inviting array of autum tones. It had been some time since she’d visited a counselor, but she had to admit it was a nice change from what she could recall of her last. “Ah..sorry about that.” Odraavi smiled coyly, “unfortunately, I bear the curse of several medical practioners: a lacking sense of time.” Nodding, she joined Chandel on the lower floor. “How are you today, Chandel?” She asked.

Doctor Odraavi

Chandel smiled as she waited as the Doctor joined her. “I am doing very well, thank you Doctor. Can I get you something to drink?” Chandel offered as she moved over to pick up her own coffee cup to refill it from the replicator.

Counselor Chandel

“The darkest black coffee you can find, please.” Odraavi returned, a razzing smile creased her lips but a solemn look played her eyes. “It must be a busy time for you, Counsellor; all of these officers suddenly showing up at your doorstep for their annual evaluations. Although, I can’t tell if it’s a relief to be doing something simple for a few days. Have you been enjoying the change?”

Dr. Odraavi, CMO

Chandel smiled as she ordered the beverage from the replicator and a refill for herself. Carrying it over she handed the Doctor hers before taking a seat across from the other woman. She chuckled in response to the CMO’s question.”Well, I was thrown in to the thick of things when I first arrived so I am actually enjoying the time to settle in and get to know the crew. How about you? Have things settled down in sickbay?” She asked as she took a moment to sip her refilled coffee.

Counselor Chandel

“Don’t get used to the quiet,” Odraavi warned. “Magellan is notorious for the danger; just look at our neighbours.” She gestured to opposite walls, as if indicating two different empires. “How do you find them so far? The crew, I mean, not our neighbours.” She clarified, taking a sip of her coffee. “It’s getting there. We still have some residual cases to follow up on, but more of the normal situations are coming through–more like our broken arms from fencing on the holodeck, or food poisoning from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on the promenade. Glorious times.”

Dr. Odraavi, CMO

Chandel smiled and chuckled a bit at Odraavi’s qualification.” I have very much enjoyed being thrown in and working with the crew. It gives one an immediate sense of belonging from the outset.”Well, I am sure you are enjoying the more relaxed cases in sickbay. What drew you out here, Doctor?”

Counselor Chandel

“With that attitude, you’ll do well out here.” Nisihe grinned, crossing her legs at the ankles. “To your office or the Magellan? Your office? that nifty message you sent. To Magellan? I’m not sure, really.”

Odraavi sipped at her coffee in thought. “I was born on a starship by accident. When my mother died in childbirth, my father was left to care for me. So I hopped from freighter to freighter, based on his assignments–he worked for a mining industry. Anyways, I suppose I got so used to the nomadic life that stability seemed preferable to jumping across the galaxy at light speed.” She shrugged. “Starfleet was never a question to me. Most of our stops were colonies split between civilian and Starfleet life, so I saw my fair share of officers. Originally, I wanted to be an engineer, after pestering one who helped fix one of our nacelles after it had been damaged by an asteroid. That obviously didn’t happen.” Nisihe paused, realising her rambling. “Uhm. Long story short, I like the idea of being a member of Starfleet, while also continuing life alongside my fellow Federation citizens, instead of isolated by duranium walls from the rest of our people.”
