T’Sara sat in her office, adjusting to her new post. There was a knock on the open doorframe. “Sir? The last of the equipment has been assembled as ordered.” an NE informed the new CSO. “Very good. Anything else?” The NE stammered before replying. “Yes sir. Ensign Lafayette has successfully run a simulation of his experiment and would like authorisation to proceed to practical testing. “This is a request the Ensign should have made himself. Send him in.” The NE scurried off.

A few moments later, Ensign Lafayette appeared. “Sir? You wanted to see me?” T’Sara nodded. “Indeed Ensign. On two matters. Take a seat.” Once he was seated, she began. “Ensign, it is protocol that the person conducting the experiment report all findings and make all requests themselves. While I understand you may have seen a certain… convenience in sending someone else, it was a breach of standard department orders. I trust it will not happen again. Secondly, I have been reviewing your simulation. While it is a success, I deem it too dangerous for practical testing. I understand your eagerness, but you do not understand that very similar methods have been attempted before, and failed. I require more evidence than two computer simulations to risk the integrity of this ship or even a shuttle, and perhaps the life of a pilot. Your thesis is interesting. But the work is not complete. You have my permission to progress to holodeck simulation. No further.”

“Which the ship then uses as opposed to traditional warp travel. I understand perfectly. You have your orders. You are dismissed.” Incensed, Lafayette stormed out.
