The great Coffee Tea switcheroo was authroized by one NE Charles Whitaker. He had a record that Rendana could take up with Security later if she wanted.

The root escalation program seemed to have been loaded in in some sort of burst function, exploiting a vulnerability in how the comms array captured and processed the messages it received. As the program continued to spit out its results it became increasingly evident to Rendana the source of what the virus did: once the hook was in the system it escalated the message to be stored from local processing to root processing, where the main core handled the message as a piece of code rather than… well… a message.

From there the evil doers were exploiting the comms to send commands to the station’s computer to mess with things.

Avalise moved quickly. Even though the computer had identified the program, it wasn’t yet secure. She worked on constructing a ‘shell’ around the program to hopefully ensure it would cease to function. But she knew that might not be enough. =/\=Rendana to Operations. I’ve found our malicious program, but it’s tethered to the comms systems. If I can’t contain it, I will have to shut down external comms.=/\=

“Sure, no problem. Let me go find my magic wand,” Avalise said lightly. She wasn’t irritated, but the whole thing was frustrating and she knew that a little joking would help her keep her calm while she tried to minimize the current impact of the program.

=/\= Lt Rendana, this is the Captain. I believe Foley taking the Trinity out will make them think we are complying with their demands and give you the time you need. Give me a minute to send them the proposed coordinates for the drop off and then you can do what you need to do. =/\= She sent the coordinates in the manner requested and then had to trust that Foley would be able to see them through the next part without communications.

It took awhile, longer than maybe isolating a regular program should have taken, but eventually the whole bug, or at least what Rendana would thought was the whole bug, became isolated from the rest of the Ship’s memory. With her little trick complete she had complete control over the systems once more, even if how she got there was a fragile wall that she would need to reinforce to have long term assurance.

With an exhale, Avalise set back on her heels and eyed the readouts. Not great, but better than hoped under the circumstances. =/\=Rendana to Ops. I’ve isolated the foreign program from the computer. We’ve got full control and should be able to switch back to the Primary Core when it’s a good time. But I want to run a few diagnostics on the system first, while Level One continues=/\=
