“Well considering I just arrived as one of your engineers; it be nice to know if you need anything repaired or replaced. I could just build something from scratch. I do that quite well.”TJ remarked. “I’m TJ Rivers by the way.”

The Haliian glanced at Rivers over and inwardly sighed. This exchange could have been so much faster and simpler. “Well TJ Rivers, it is considered typical and expected for a junior officer to introduce themselves properly when you first meet them. I’m not one for the rule book all the time, but it would at least be a modicum of courtesy, don’t you think?”

“How about we try this again properly?” Avalise said, her tone making it clearly more than a suggestion.

That sounded like a good idea. “TJ Rivers, reporting for duty ma’am.”

Rendana gazed at him for a moment before smiling a bit. “It’s good to meet you, Ensign. I’m Avalise Rendana. Just so you know in advance, I’m not much for formalities or suck ups, so Chief will do on most days. And if you’re wanting to get to work right away, grab a kit from storage”-she gestured with a thumb off to the compartment to the left-“an you get to come with me.”

TJ went and got himself a engineering kit. He’d pick up his own when he got back to quarters. He wanted to see how he’d work with her. So far, he had gotten along well. He hoped that continued. “I’m game for that. Should bring my own pack next time around.”
