“Your hand is fine. I would suggest using it less, for about a day. After that, you can return to the same usage you had, once before. It wasn’t a detrimental injury, so you should be fine.”

She shook her head and sighed as she let the doctor finish her work. “Just great. My dominant hand too. Will make work so much fun,” Avalise said dryly and then exhaled. “Oh, well, guess that’s what I have junior officers for,” she added with a bare hint of a smirk.

“Mmm, I don’t know about that one. It depends on what you have them do.” She remarked, facetiously. “Tell a junior officer to solve world hunger, and they can do it. Tell a junior officer to screw in a lightbulb, and they cannot find the socket.” She joked, softly.

Avalise couldn’t help but laugh and it provided a much needed release to the tension in her body. She smiled gratefully at Odraavi. “I’ve known a few, but I still got to pass on the problems to my Chief. Now I’m the Chief, so lucky me,” she said with a light grin. Flexing her hand, the COO nodded. “Feels alright. But a bit stiff. I can see your advice will be good to keep in mind,” she said with a wink, as if the whole drama of why she was in the Infirmary in the first place was forgotten.

“Oh, yes. It is a bit weird, at first, but I guess you get used to it.” Odraavi remarked, shaking her head. There were still days where she had to remind herself that she was the chief and the others were her junior officers. This was in spite of the fact that she had been doing this for quite some time, now. Ah, some things nevertheless change. “Haha! That is good to hear,” She nodded. “If you experience tension that doesn’t allow you to move your hand or wrist, try, first, ice or anything cold. If that doesn’t work, come to the Sickbay, and one of the nurses can get you some anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. For, despite our advantages technology, tissue regeneration isn’t always flawless.”

“Noted,” Rendana replied with a nod.

A slight pause, a beat to change the emotional status of their conversation.

“And, on a colleague to colleague basis, rather than doctor to patient, my door is always open, if you want to have a little chat, serious or amicable. Just.. beware of the succulents, some people seem to believe they jump at you, but I’ve never seen it. So, who knows.” A smile etched its way across her face, once more. Normally, she kept her relationships rather closed off, a strictly patient-doctor. However, there were the select few that she would have her door open for, beyond medical conversation. That was, if they ever needed a sounding board or someone to laugh with. She might be a bit awkward, but she had a set of lungs and a voicebox.

Everything had been such a whirlwind of emotions the last ew months. It was the thing that had held her back from a possible intimate night with Ashley. Her confusion about her life was deep, expect for her work. That made sense and he had worked hard and earned her promotion. She wasn’t about to screw that up. But, already, she had found that the initial wall she had put up had been dented and poked with holes. Avalise was coming to understand that she was okay with it.

But the CIO had crossed a line and she didn’t expect he cared all that much. A curse flew through her mind before she remembered that Odraavi had made a sincere offer and was hoping for a response. Avalise nodded and gave a soft smile. “I’ll keep that in mind, thank you”

The COO slipped off the biobed and gave a cheeky salute with her newly healed hand. “Good day Doctor. I’ll see you again soon, just hopefully not in here.” And with that she headed out.
