Though she kissed Heathcliff back, it was more a hard press of her lips to show her passion and caring for him rather than a passionate embrace. Her fingers took a hold of his shirt and pulled him to her to convey to him that even though she was not being overly expressive due to where they were on the starbase, she did love him deeply. She knew he was “And what was that?” she asked as she pulled away a little and looked up into eyes.

Rinker pulled back reluctantly. He knew as much as she, how much she disliked public show of affection, but he had made a number of decisions in his mind in that moment and he was unable to limit his responses. “Hmmm… I think I’ll tell you that a little later. Right now I think I’ll enjoy your company and dinner.”

He looked about with at a deep breathe. “I like loving you. I think we should do this for a while.” His hand rested on her thigh, way too high to be assumed to be anything less than intimate.

The Bolian owner was quite reluctant to break up the couple but hot food was hot food and he would serve nothing less than fresh. He brought out a tray filled with two dishes. The first was Heathcliff’s, a steak by itself which had been aged two months in butter and now was medium rare with juices flowing out onto the curved plate. Also, a glass of whiskey, though not McClellan in brand, it was as close as the Bolian had in stock. Then he turned to the Captain, careful not to look at the hand on her thigh. He was used to seeing her alone in his restaurant. She liked the quiet part of the upper balcony. He placed the beef tenderloin medallions, rare, over roasted potatoes and vegetables placed beautifully on a plate before her then carefully laid down the glass of Sangiovese she had regularly. He always kept it in stock. Between them, he placed a bread like item which smelled warm and delicious, with a milky substance beside it.

Briony took a piece of the bread and placed it in the milky substance before eating it. (much like butter except liquid and with pale herbs.) Briony watched Cliff with amusement and elation. They were not ending and that made her happy. “I think we should too.”

Rinker pursed his lips when the food arrived. He would have to use both hands to eat his meal and that would force him to remove his hand from her thigh, which was its preferred location and with their agreement to continue ‘dating’ his mind wandered to more amorous ways to celebrate this decision.

“Wow, that is a good looking steak.” Prying his ‘evil’ hand from the warm electric contact of her body. picking up the steak knife and carving a sizable chuck from the outer rim of the meat. He sniffed the aroma for a moment and the proffered the fork to Briony, “Want a taste?” It was certainly more than a taste. The was a familiar-ness with the offering of the food off his plate. “You need to eat a little more anyways.” He hadn’t forgotten that Briony had lost weight over the past year, weight that she didn’t need to and couldn’t really afford to lose.

Briony grinned and took the proffered bite. The steak, like everything else in this place, was delicious. The Bolian always outdid himself to keep the Captain happy. She chewed thoughtfully, and watched as he finished setting out the plates. She gave the Bolian a rare smile as he left. This made the kind host very very pleased and he left the two to their dinner in peace.

Ï do need to eat more, that is true. Maintaining my weight right now is not really a concern. Seems the body takes emaciation rather hard and its not a quick come back.”She grimaced and picked up her glass of wine. “But it is rather nice to eat whatever I want with little in the way of consequences.”

Briony, CO

Rinker rubbed his stomach absently for a moment. He on the other hand had put on a couple of pounds during the intervening year. Without his ridiculously fit girlfriend about all the time, his fitness regimen fell by the wayside. “Perhaps we can take desert to go..” He had ideas with that.

Briony turned and gestured to the Bolian who came very willingly back to the table. “We would like your daily dessert. Have it delivered to my quarters’at your earliest convenience. You know I cant resist your caramel tarts.”

“Yes of course Captain, I’ll take care of that right away.”He smiled warmly and left them once more. Briony turned back to her companion.

He stood after the meal, “Take the wine, we’ll go or a walk… Captaincy has it privileges.” Most Starbases has limits on drinking in public, but few were hard and fast enough to direct them at the captain of said base. “I want to do a little window shopping before all this food goes to my thighs.”

Rinker

Even if rules were possibly lax for a Captain, Briony would never have taken advantage of them. She smiled and sipped the last bit of her glass and then placed it on the table. “You know I wont walk around my base with alcohol, but a walk does sound nice. “She stood and held out her hand to him.

Briony, CO

“Lame,” Rinker matched her, finishing his drink with the same speed as she did. His being more alcoholic hit him a little harder as he coughed slightly. “This is why I’ll never make Captain… I’d be walking around half in the bag all the time.”

Rinker held out his arm slightly creating an opening for her to loop her arm/hand through. It was all so civilized like when they were on the holodeck having their little 1800s murder mystery.

She took his offered arm, remembering back to their first date. It may not have started that way, but it certainly had ended that way. The classic early 1800s murder mystery had been fun and one of Briony’s favorite holodeck programs. Who knew beneath the colder exterior of the Captain was a woman who liked to play a version of Sherlock? Heathcliff had come upon her as she was walking dressed in full victorian regalia. She wondered if that was what had first piqued his interest in her or if it had started before that day.

Rinker moved from store to store, with a little more decisiveness then simply window shopping. He paused before jewelry store, he just tilted his head for a moment towards the door and lead/pulled her within. He glanced among the items moving from necklaces to rings to ear-rings. “Anything suit your fancy?”

Rinker

She walked through the Promenade, window shopping without any real need for anything. When he stopped at the jewelry store and pulled her with him, she was bemused and more than a little curious. Her dark eyes wandered over the many items glittering throughout the displays. At his question, she tilted her head in thought. “I have never been one to wear much jewelry. None on duty. I don’t really know.”

“Well on duty isn’t too practical. You never know when you’re going to be in a situation where it might get damaged. Also it would have to be an important piece.” Rinker wasn’t much for jewelry either. His fingers changes size quickly with his weight making rings impractical, and he hated necklaces, it felt like he was intentionally choking himself.

This time she took a second look around. Her jewelry style was fairly minimal, sleek and sophisticated. Elegant. She wore gold more often than silver tones, and nothing chunky and complicated. Her favorite cufflinks were a set of gold Deltas. It was in fact, her only pair. “Are you wanting to buy me jewelry? Seems like a pretty big step.”

Briony, CO

Rinker shrugged. “Perhaps,” He continued looking about, as much at the male pieces as well as the female. “We’ve had big steps, we’ve had little steps. Some would say after a year… jewelry isn’t that big of a deal, but if it makes you uncomfortable.” He stopped and turned to face her. “I don’t have too many items of significance and I want to do something grand.”
