Some part of Alita had been preparing for this dinner since the moment she had sat in the ready room and looked up into her new Captain’s eyes. Everything in her universe had changed since then but the three Cajun gumbos sitting on the serving cart were destined to happen. So were the other dishes and everything neatly tucked away in the shoulder bag.

Alita checked again to make certain he was in his quarters and carefully wheeled down the corridor.

Several people glanced as she passed by. Diaz stepped out of his quarters and smiled, “Hey boss, that’s a lot for poker night. Thanks.” he said enthusiastically.

Alita paused and shook her head, her dark hair brushing the cream colored shoulders of her blouse.

“Not tonight Eddie. Take the tray on the bottom and count me out.”

Eddie took the tray and gave his boss another once over before stepping back into his quarters as Alita silently walked away only to step out of the lift seconds later and ring Remy’s chime.

A few moments later, Remy answered the door. He had previously just finished a workout and was exiting the shower when he heard the chime. So, when he answered the door, Alita would be surprised to see her captain with a towel wrapped around his waist and another draped over his shoulders revealing the well-developed and solid upper body that belonged to Remy. His tousled hair still damp from the shower. He smiled to her as he opened the door.

“‘Lita, what a pleasant surprise. What brings you. . . . ” He stopped and sniffed the air and then noticed the food cart behind her. “Boo, am I smelline what I tink I am smelline?”

Alita paused for a few seconds longer than was necessary before answering Remy which was not the way she wanted to start the evening.

“Probably. I have three different types of gumbo here, a rediculously decadent bread pudding, and a salad so I can pretend all oft his won’t got to my hips in the morning. And I’m sure you can guess what’s in the shoulder bag.” she said pausing and smiling a bit.

“May I come in?”

Alita was definitely dressed for off duty. She had left the silver hair sticks at home and her dark hair draped long to her shoulders. She wore a cream colored sleeveless blouse with a deep v-neck and a short black wrap skirt with three textured brass buttons on the side, and heels a bit higher than normal. The fact that there was no real color in her blouse intensified the green of her eyes and made the sparkles they were known for pop a bit more than usual.

Once Remy got past the aromatic scents of the food she prepared, he stepped aside and replied, “Of course you may.” As she moved into the room, he helped Alita bring the cart in and moved it to a spot near the low table in front of the couch. He couldn’t help but notice how brightly her green eyes shown in the light of his cabin.

He stood in silence for a moment noticing how well the blouse and skirt fit her, revealing curves in all the right places. “To what do I owe de pleasure of dis fine meal? ‘Ave I forgotten sometine? Or is it dat you wan’ me to sample you’ delectables. . . to see if you can pass for a true Cajun?”

Boudreaux (CO)

When Alita had began cooking earlier that day it had been because she had a lot on her mind and cooking was a lot easier than booking a counseling appointment. But as the hours had wound away, her thoughts had become more an more convoluted until she had basically lost track of them and continued cooking.

“I guess I just like a challenge.” she began.

“Oui? Remind me to invite you to participate in in one of my ‘olo adventures from days gone by. It ‘elps keep my skills sharp. I ‘ave no doubt you would like de challenge,” he said with a wink.

Alita had to look away from Remy. She wished she could order him to get dressed or something because, standing there like that, she understood why she had such a crush on her Uncle Rob. They had a very similar body structure and when the handsome marine biologist had taught the 14 year old deep sea diving, she enjoyed being held in his arms more than she cared to admit. And those damned eyes reminded her of Donnie. All the girls loved Donnie and that just wasn’t fair.

Alita moved about the room setting out dishes. The pots of gumbo looked exactly alike but she knew which was which and was curious if Remy would too.

“Either way, I do hope you’re hungry.” Alita said sitting on the couch and taking off her shoulder bag.

“Famished. An’ getting ‘ungrier since I saw you standine in de doorway. . . . I mean, I could smell de food.’

“Unless, of course, this is a bad time?” she asked looking up at him with a smile and a faint blush beginning on her cheeks.

  • Alita

“Of course no’. I will always ‘ave time for you, boo. Now,” he began looking at the towel still around his waist, “if you would please finish settine de table, I will change into sometine more appropriate for eatine. I do ‘ope you are plannine on stayine and shareine everytine wit’ me?”

Boudreaux (CO)

Alita nodded and got back up to finish setting the table. She had brought everything from her quarters so it was no trouble at all to lay out the appropriate dishes, flatware, etc. She put the large salad bowl in the center of the table and the three pots of gumbo to one side. The one on the right was a fairly standard interpretation, the one in the middle was a seafood gumbo, and the one on the left actually bore the Boudreaux family name.

As she laid out various other side dishes Alita realized there was far too much for the two of them but, once she started cooking she couldn’t stop. For now, she left the bread pudding to keep warm.

Taking a step back, she admired the spread before bringing out a bottle of Remy’s favorite spirit.

“Everything?” she asked the empty room.

  • Alita

“Everytine what?” Remy inquired as he exited the bedroom. This time, he was dressed, comfortably and casual would be an understatement. The white t-shirt he was wearing had the sleeves cut off at the shoulders and was well worn. The blue Starfleet Academy insignia across the chest was faded and stretched. One would have to be fairly close to read the faded lettering. The red shorts he wore had at one time been longer sweatpants. Time had necessitated they be cut off at just above the knees and to flow freely as he walked. Across the bottom of the left leg another Starfleet Academy insignia, this time in faded white, showed more years of wear. A pair of leather flip-flops finished his ensemble.

He finished toweling off his hair and then ran both hands through his dark locks to keep it out of his face.

Stepping to the table, Remy inhaled deeply over each of the pots and after each a look of ecstasy spread across his face.

“If evertine tastes as good as it smells, boo, you are goine to make Tantie Mattie jealous. It has been a long time since anyone has come close to her dishes. I am impressed!!!”

Boudreaux (CO)

As Alita watched Remy walk across the room and inhale the aromas of what she had to offer, the answer to his question faded from her mind. The mention of his relative, however, reminded her that she had left most family things in her quarters. It had actually not been a conscious decision. Ever since she and Remy had found out about their familial relationship she had been on an emotional roller coaster of sorts. He was the answer to a family mystery, an honored place on a family tree, her Captain, her colleague, someone she would go anywhere with, and trust with her life. But Alita had done the math many times. She had never grown up with this man. The genetics said the family bond was there and even though she saw the resemblance all throughout the family tree she was having a hard time reconciling it with the person standing before her now. The one thing she was completely uncertain of was if she was bold enough to ask his feelings on the subject.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Alita realized there was something missing.

“Well I’m glad you like it so far because it’s not coming back to my quarters with me. I’ve been training for an Ironman triathlon and this is my reward for being very very good.” she explained holding Remy’s eyes for a bit too long, “But I have one more thing and then we can start eating. Please feel free to serve yourself.”

Alita walked over to the cart and bent low to retrieve something from bottom tray. This would no doubt reveal the work that Alita had been doing in her off hours. Her calves were chiseled supporting lean thighs and a firm derrière all accentuated by black heels.

“So dat’s what it is,eh? I’ve noticed you puttine extra time in de ‘olodeck.” He watched as she bent down and noticed the well developed muscles in her legs and tight glutes. “The work you ‘ave been doine definitely shows in you’ legs and ass. . . ass . . . .oder assets.”

He had to turn away to hide the slight reed tint to his cheeks. For the moment he was content to full a glass with the bourbon she had brought along.

Standing slowly she turned and brought the tray of biscuits.

“You’ll have to let me know how you like my buns.”

  • Alita

Remy stopped mid pour as he straightened up. “You’ buns seem perfect.” He turned around and saw Alita with the biscuits in front of her. His gaze went from her eyes to the tray she held. “Yes, dey are perfect. I canno’ wait to get a ‘andful.” He looked back into her eyes as the room filled with a brief awkward silence. He broke the silence with a clearing of his throat then quickly drained his glass of all it’s contents.

He turned again to fill his glass and one for Alita. Taking a deep breath, he was greatful to be wearing the shorts a t-shirt.

“Whew!! Are you warm, boo? I am. It seems de temp has gone up slightly in ‘ere. I’ll ‘ave to ‘ave ops check it out tomorrow, possibly tonight, if it gets too warm to sleep. . . :

Boudreaux (CO)

Alita doubted Remy had x-ray vision so how could he have seen the biscuits before she turned around to hand them to him? It was obvious he was commenting on what was under her skirt. This made her heart beat fast and brought a flush to her cheeks which she tried to hide by downing the glass of bourbon which only made the flush worse.

Sighing she signaled the Remy should please pour her another one. It was going to be one of those nights… Whatever that meant.

“Nothing gets by you on this ship does it? No matter what affect of yourself you present to the crew nothing ever gets by you does it?” she asked.

Standing again, Alita began serving, bending slightly to reach some of the dishes further across the table, the deep V of the neckline dipping dangerously low.

Glancing up, she laughed, “Yeah, maybe it is a bit hot.”.
