Reilly hadn’t really settled in, but he didnt really care either. He decided he need to do the new XO thing and start making sure he and the DH’s on the ship were on the same page. Looking at the roster, he scowled at Petrov’s name. “Yeah… definately last.” he mumbled to himself.

Setting his schedule up, he sent out the meeting agenda. First up, the Chief Science Officer. He then did what he always did when in a new space and was alone… he swept for bugs.

A minute or so before the appointed time, Duncan arrived outside the XO’s door and paused slightly. The man stood straight, with a military bearing that was timeless to those that knew what to look for and announced his military school upbringing well before anything else did. His uniform was neat although he adjusted his cuffs slightly for no other reason than to make sure they were right. It wasn’t for the XO’s benefit, Duncan was a firm believer that if you looked the part of an Officer, it was a good start to actually acting like one.

He paused a moment as a random thought crossed his mind and the corner of his mouth curved in a grin for just a moment. He was old school, first job of the day was to make your bed and do it right. He did that religiously but Lily had other ideas, a well made bed was an instant invitation to jump on it. He had learned to adapt, overcome however. As long as he made the bed he could handle it being messed up 30 seconds later when Lily came cannonballing onto it from nowhere.

Finishing adjusting his cuffs, he pressed the chime and then checked the corridor.

A voice inside said “Come on in.” and the door slid open and reveled a chaotic office in the midst of being unpacked. But the desk and chair in front of it were clear.
The new XO stood up. The CSO had at least half a foot on him, but maybe only twenty or thirty pounds. He had brown hair and piercing green eyes that were somewhat eased by the smile on the handsome man’s face. He extended a hand and said “Lieutenant. Good to meet you. I’m Commander Reilly, the new XO. Sorry for the state of the office, still getting settled. Have a seat and we can get right down to it.”
Reilly had reviewed the man’s record and his profile. Military, no nonsense, proud to be an officer. So, Reilly didn’t beat around the bush with small talk.

Reilly, XO

Duncan stepped inside and took the few steps top the desk and chair. He didn’t look around, the room was small enough that what he needed to see he could without wasting time looking. The room was disorganized yet the XO has begun to meet the crew, that spoke of a man who focused on his work rather than the little things. It didn’t mean that the new XO lacked an eye for detail, just that he may be the type that prioritized things a certain way. Of course it could always mean the man had slept in on his first day on the job and was now rushing to catch up on his to do list. Duncan would have to wait to see what type of man this Reilly was, profiles only told you so much.

Shaking the Commanders hand, Duncan nodded and smiled his greeting. The smile could have been called professional, it certainly wasn’t either friendly or disdainful and seemed more of Duncan returning the welcome. “Commander, pleased to meet you.” Duncan took his seat and folded his left ankle on to his right knee in a casual style that somehow he made look formal, then settled his eyes on the Commander. A striking pale blue, they could have been described as cold and merciless but didn’t hold any of that feeling at all. Unlike his bearing, they conveyed a warmth, focus and intelligence that those closest to Duncan knew well.

Reilly sat and looked across the desk. “How are you settling, Lieutenant? Bit of a shift from your last post, I see.”

Reilly, XO

“Perfectly fine, Commander. It’s not the first ship I’ve served on but the space is a little different from that on the Outpost, I admit.”

Rhodes, CSO

“Big shift in space, indeed. Speaking of… have you had a chance to review your lab? Any outstanding needs or issues I can assist with? I want to make sure you are set and ready before I start unloading tasks on you.” the XO said with a slight humor and grin.

Reilly, XO

“I’ve been through it, yes SIr,” Duncan replied, then shook his head briefly. “Nothing needed, it suffices for what it’s needed to do. We’re hardly a ship focused on Scientific research but the facilities are more than adequate for most tasks we will need to undertake.”

Rhodes, CSO

Reilly nodded and said “Good. Glad to hear it. So now for the final question… what do you want to get out of being assigned to the Wolverine? Whats in it for you, Mr. Rhodes?”

Reilly, XO

“I get to do my job, and be out of touch from my family,” Duncan smiled slightly. “Along with having Dr Locksley here with me, that alone makes me as happy as I need to be. For now, that is the perfect place to be Commander.”

Lt Rhodes, CSO

Really nodded and said “Fair enough. And what do you expect to get from the crew? And the Command staff, too… want to make sure the brochures we sent you were up to date.” and he winked and smiled.

Reilly, XO

“There were brochures?” Duncan blinked in mock surprise. “Lily probably used them to make potpourri,” he smiled slightly. “I expect what most Officers do,” he told the XO, “people to do their jobs and do them well, without fuss. That is the standard I hold myself at, and my department. From what I can see the Wolverine has a small but experienced crew for the most part, and the Captain does not look like a slacker to me.”
