After negotiating the corridors and an uncomfortable but brief ride in a turbo lift “Morning Bright” finds himself standing in front of the laboratory door. Taking a moment to straighten his tunic and raising and lowering his crest in agitation, he reached out to key the door chime.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

The door opened immediately, seeing as it was the laboratory and not the Office of the CSO. Inside the lab was the equipment expected of a Brazen Class escort, which wasn’t a ship designed for Science operations nevertheless carried enough equipment for the team to carry out most functions required on a Starship.

At one of the benches a man looked up. His gaze didn’t linger on the large form in the doorway nor did the mans striking pale blue eyes show any sign of surprise. He returned to his work but spoke loud enough to be heard.

“Ensign Morning Bright, I presume. Come in, don’t stand in the corridor and block it. A Brazen isn’t exactly a floating city.”

After a pause to plan where exactly to place himself in the small lab “Morning Bright” complied. After ensuring his tail was clear so the door would close he spoke “ I apologize for disturbing your work sir, but I felt I should at least inform you I was on board before scheduling a more formal meeting.”

If anything the lab felt smaller than even the deck plans had indicated, “Morning Bright” felt a small joy at the fact that very little of his work would require he be in here.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

“No apology needed Ensign,” Duncan replied, “there isn’t anything going on that can’t be paused, and as for formal meetings, you start your shift at 0700 tomorrow morning assuming you are cleared for duty in your other mandatory check-ins.” Duncan indicated a PaDD that was beside the equipment he was working with. “You’ve already been sent your Duty Roster and assigned tasks, it will be waiting for you on your console in your quarters when you get back to them.”

Duncan looked up at the new Officer, kind of a requirement despite Duncans own height. If there was any uneasiness at being dwarfed by the bulk of the new Science Officer, Duncan showed none of it at all. He stood straight with a military style bearing and poise that appeared to be inherently learnt and his demeanour was completely workmanlike.

“What is your preferred specialization, Ensign? Do you have any ongoing projects you wish to work on while you are with us?”

“Morning Bright” smiled or at least the gnalish equivalent. “Xeno-archeology And computational linguistics, Sir.” He paused to consider the rest of the question”I haven’t any special projects as of yet, but I imagine one will find me in short order.”

After his last posting, the officers nonchalance in his presence was a pleasant surprise.

“Are you aware of anything that needs my attention?” Posting an archeologist to such a small ship was surprising, and he suspected Star Fleet had a purpose.

“As of this moment, no.” Duncan said bluntly. “I’m sure you are aware of the oddity of posting an Officer with your specializations to a small combat vessel like the Wolverine, especially outside of any particular mission profile that is underway. If Starfleet has a reason, they haven’t told me. In the meantime you will be assigned standard Scientific work that this department will undertake due to the limited number of Science Officers on board. When not involved in work for the department you will be free to attend to your own research, most of the time we will be working on identifying and cataloguing what our sensors pick up as we travel, and providing Science support in missions where needed of course.”
