After taking a few bites of his own, Remy set his fork down. “Don’ say I did no’ warn you, but I do accept de compliment. Merci!!”
Grinning mischeviously, he reached across the table and gently wiped a bit sauce from the corner of her mouth. Pulling his hand back, he added, “Canno’ let dat go to waste.” Remy swirled his tongue around to lick the sauce of his finger. “Hmmm. Dat taste was just a bit sweeter dan de rest.”
He picked his fork back up and took a few more bites of the pasta and let his actions simmer for a while.
“Looking back across the table to Kady, he said, “Tantie Mattie’s recipes ‘ave yet to let me down.”

Kady blushed and wiped her lips after the Captain removed the errant sauce from the corner of her mouth. “Well you did warn me,” she laughed.
As they settled back to eating she smiled. “So tell me. How did you come to be the leader of this ship of rabble rousers? Was it chosen for you or did you pick it? Seems an odd lot, to be sure.” She was aware of the ship’s history as well as its occupants. She was merely curious as to the Captain’s take on the situation.

CNSRemy picked up a napkin and wiped off his mouth. “De short ver-SHON is dat I was recruited by Starfleet when I was 17 years old. My brother, Merlion, and I possessed a very particular set of skills dat Command felt would be beneficial for intelligence work. Apparently we ‘ad been on dere radar for a few years before we were approached. I went through de Intel and Tactical prorams, graduated de Academy and sent to de USS Radical as a tactical officer. I was recruited by Sec-SHON 31 and did some work for dem, some of which I am no’ proud f. Each time I was den assigned to a differen’ ship.”
He paused to take a drink of his wine and refilled both their glasses.
“De last job I did for 31, I was severely injured due to radia-SHON poisonine. While healine I decided to quit Starfleet, resign, retire. I was tired of doine 31’s dirty work. Dat’s when I was offered de XO posi-SHON on de Vanguard. I tought 31 would no’ pull an XO from ‘is ship so I accepted. On my very first mis-SHON de captain disappeared. It is still a mystery what ‘appened to him, but I was promoted to CO. Shortly after, de Vanguard was destroyed. My personal feelings is dat 31 ‘ad somtine to do wit’ it. Luckily, de whole crew survived.
“Command was looking for a captain and crew dat were willine to cross de line sometines, so dey offered me dey Wolverine. I accepted wit’ de caveat dat I was allowed to bring certain personnel wit’ me, Bryson, Petrov, and a few oders od my command staff of de Vanguard. We are de best at what we do, but what we do is no’ always very nice.”

Listening and smiling as the glass was refilled, she nodded. “I know of 31 well. And you are right, once theirs, there is no leaving. I am sorry if they did have something to do with the events that eventually lead you here. But I think, far as I can tell, you have done well for yourself here. And your crew, from what I’ve read so far of their bios, are fairly well adjusted, considering the makeup of the crewmen.” She laughed lightly and finished her dinner, pushing the plate away.
“Merci,” he replied and smiled. “We ‘ave become a family, a dysfunc-SHON-al family, but a family all de same.”
Glancing around, she smiled once more, leaning back with her wine. “If this is a facsimile of ‘home’ I can see why you love it. It’s truly a wonder. Coming from the cities, it’s hard to imagine, sometimes, that little places like this still manage to eek out their existences.”

CNSRemy took the empty plate and placed it on top of his own. “Oui, dis is a part of de family business, tucked away in a ‘lil ‘ole in wall of de French Quarter. Normally, de place would be packed, but I can make it special, for a special mademoiselle.”
He was about to retrieve another bottle of wine when the door burst open suddenly!! Four men brandishing phasers quickly came through the door and fanned out. All four phasers aimed directly at Remy.
The man in the lead flashed at badge and proclaimed, “I am Marshall Zerbino Albertine. On behalf of Interpol, you Monsieur Remy Boudreaux are under arrest for international crimes.!!”
“Sacre,” Remy exclaimed!!. “Computer, pause holoprogram.”
He looked at Kadence, slightly embarrassed. “Forgive me, cher, I ‘ad forgotten dat dis was a part of de program. I will cancel it, unless,” his smile curved upward and a mischievous glint appeared in his eye, “you are up for a ‘lil adventure?”

At the crashing of the intimate gathering, Kady had palmed her dinner knife and the handle lay in her hand with the blade up the length of her wrist. As Remy froze the program, her brows rose in query while trying to stifle the slight rise in emotion she felt at feeling she had been ‘played’. When his explanation was forthcoming, she felt a bit better and laid her weapon back on the table with no one the wiser for what she had done. “I am afraid I will decline. Though I hope you take no offense. I had just not been prepared for such games. Forgive me? Perhaps another time?”
She glanced around and smiled. “I really have enjoyed this evening, Captain. I appreciate all you went thru. And I am looking forward to working more with you during this rotation. Perhaps in a few days, once I am settled, we can sit down and go over those you think could benefit from a bit of, attention shall we say?” She inclined her head in a polite way to say she understood the unique make up of the crew.

Remy was disappointed she wasn’t up for the adventure, but smiled politely and said, “As you wish, but you are missing out on an exciting adventure.”
“He emptied his wine glass of the last swallow and set it down. “Per’aps another time, no? Let me know when you are ready, an’ I will make de time to go over de crew.”
He stood up and bowed to her. “I would no’ be a proper gentlemen if I were to at least not offer to escort back to you’ quarters. . .. “
