The following message appeared on all consoles.

=^=Attention all crew. New crew party begins on the holodeck at 1600 hours. Bring your good cheer and leave your uniforms.=^=

Alita hadn’t quite figured out a theme for the party. She’d wanted to do Mardi Gras in honor of the Captain but the XO’s words just wouldn’t leave her mind. Neither would her conversation with Anna. So the best she could come up with on short notice was a very large bonfire with several cooking fires along one side. As usual, several of the security JOs were helping out and Alita, herself, was doing at least three things at once.

“Morning Bright” had considered not attending the social event, but in the end it was best to parent himself to the crew as a whole.
Taking the time to preen, he opted not to simply wear the hooded robe he often wore in public, nor go unadorned as was his habit. Out of respect he had chosen a simple tan drape.

Arriving promptly at 1600hrs as was his habit, he took a moment to relax, thus lowering his crest and brightening his colors.

Keying the door, he was assailed buy music and the smell of wood smoke, casing his crest to rise a bit in surprise, but he simply stepped into the room. Scanning the holo sene, looking for the Chief of Security. Best to greet the host thought the Gnal. As he approached the bonfire.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

Reilly saw the invite and grinned. He did so love a good party. He made himself presentable in dark gray Jean’s, brown boots, and a deep green shirt with silver buttons. Picking up three bottles, he made his way to the venue.

He came into the door and almost bumped into the new Ensign. Reilly was familiar with his file, but hadn’t yet met him. “Ensign. Nice to meet you. I’d shake hands but they are full at the moment. Mind grabbing a bottle so I can say hello properly?” he asked with a friendly smile.

Reilly, XO

Looking at the human a moment, “Morning Bright” extended his left hand “My pleasure” As the faces of the crew roster ran threw his mind, but having no luck.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

“Reilly. A pleasure.” and he put a bottle in his hand and moved it up and down in a ‘modified handshake’. “Let’s head in and go get you introduced, shall we?” and he left the bottle in Morning Bright’s hand and headed to Alita. “Hey! I brought some refreshments! Where you want ‘em, Lieutenant?”

Reilly, XO

Still drawing a blank as to who he was speaking to, and now confused buy the odd gesture with the bottle “Morning Bright” stuck out his right hand in the human custom. Seeing his companion turn and hail just the person he himself had intended to find, the Gnal dutifully fallowed.

• Perhaps this crew will not have problems excepting me as had his last* “Morning Bright” thought as his crest rose slightly and his head coloring noticeably brightened in the Gnalish equivalent of a smile. .

Ensin “Morning Bright”

Alita stepped out form behind a small table she had been cutting several things on and smiled warmly.

“There are ice buckets tot he right for drinks or you can give them to Diaz Commander.” she said gesturing to the ever present Ensign.

Alita looked completely relaxed in a pair of denim jeans, a pink tank top, and a faded apron.

Pausing to set her cup down she smiled at them both.

“Commander Riley, I’m so glad you came. I hope to see you at all of my parties.” she said and shook his hand warmly before stepping aside and approaching Ensign Morning Bright.

Alita wasn’t certain if there was an acceptable or traditional Gnalish greeting.

“Hello ensign, I’m Alita, COS of the Wolverine. I guess you could call me the defacto chef around here and, perhaps, I’m a bit of a hospitality officer as well. I have no idea how that got started, but welcome anyway. If you need anything please find me. I’d like everybody here to get along. Can I interest you in anything to eat?” Alita asked, food was her forte after all. At that moment though, she really wanted a drink.

• Alita

The light went on in his head, as he now placed Commander Riley as the executive officer. Reflexively lowing his head and raising his crest in response to the Chief of Security’s greeting. “Morning Bright” then offered his right hand in the human greeting. “Pleased to meet you, m’am” came out in the deep resonant voice of the Gnal.

“ I would be delighted to sample your fare” he turned his head to better focus on the young woman. “Is there anything I can do to help? As an after thought, “tho I wouldn’t want to get in the way.”

Alita thought about that for a few seconds.

“Actually no, but thank you. This is a very well oiled machine. Everything’s pretty much set up. Do you like spicy foods?” Alita asked.

Looking sidling at the lieutenant. “I rather enjoyed Luisiana style crawfish boils, so spicy isn’t a problem.”

She was always eager to try new recipes or introduce things to new species and this was definitely a first for her.

Turning his head to focus on Ensin Diaz, “A pleasure to meet you as well, Ensin Diaz.” Again offering his hand.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

Diaz nodded in greeting before finishing the drinks.

Taking a moment to place the XO’s Bottle in the bucket of ice, “Morning Bright” looked for a confutable place to lie down. This would minimize chances of bumping into some one.

“I think I have found a comfortable spot just there, Lieutenant. It should keep me close at hand so I can sample your cooking, yet out of your way”

Again eyeing the young woman, with his crest about half mast, and his head nearly turquoise. He bobbed his head in salute before moving just a few feat away to settle into his chest, curling his tail around himself and comfortably observing the rest of the party.

Ensin “Morning Bright”

Remy stepped into the holodeck in his regular casual dress of jeans, t-shirt, and gator skin books.. He smiled broadly at what Alita had prepared while nodding greetings to various members of the crew. Moving toward the COS, he greeted her with a compliment.

“”Lita, my dear, you ‘ave outdone you’self again. People can say what dey want ‘bout de Wolverine, bu’ I do believe I ‘ave de best morale officer in de fleet.”

Boudreaux (CO)

Alita enjoyed these off duty moments. She allowed her guard to be let down a bit and let people say what they will. She stepped closer and smiled broadly at Remy.

“And your morale officer needs a drink. I’ve saved some especially spicy things just for you and I was just about to line up some dishes for Morning Bright to sample, Do you have any thoughts?” she asked smiling at both of them.

This new Ensign had her curiosity piqued and she was hoping to engage him in conversation while still playing the good hostess but, she did so love drinking with Remy even though Anna’s warnings were still fresh in her mind.
