Remy had everything meticulously planned for his dinner with Kadence. It wasn’t easy but he spent the afternoon off-duty to prepare the meal, cooking everything by had on small hot plates he had set up in his quarters.

He stood outside the holosuite, leaning casually against the wall. He waited patiently for the ships new counselor, dressed in denim blue jeans, a tight v-necked white t-shirt that clearly showed his chiseled upper body.. His outfit topped off with his favorite pair of custom crocodile skin boots.

“Computer,” he began, “what is de current time?”

“1855 hours, Captain,” came the reply.

Boudreaux (CO)

Kady came around the corner as the time chimed from the computer. “Worried I’d stand you up, Captain?” She smiled and stopped in front of him. She was in a long skirted legging set in an hombre blue tone. The skirt wrapped around the leggings and was open along the left side almost to her hip. The top had a scoop neck and sleeves that billowed slightly but came to a tight button at her elbow. The outfit ran from light blue, nearly white near her neck, down to a deep blue like the depths of the ocean closer to the bottom. Her jewelry was simple. A silver chain around her neck hung low and held a deep blue cobochan that rested just at the end of the light blue on her top. And matching bracelets in silver were on her wrist, studded with equally blue stones around the circlets. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail with a deep blue barrette. Her makeup was minimal with a light red on her lips and a bit of liner on her eyes.

“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long out here.” She smiled and nodded to the door.

“No’ at all, Counselor. De wait was wort it.” He smiled approvingly at her outfit, then turned to the holosuite doors and offered her his arm.

As the doors slid open, he said, “Welcome to de French Quarter of New Orleans, my ‘ome.”

He led Kady a short distance down the almost empty street before stopping in front of a double door. The sign above the door read ‘Bistro Boudreaux’.

“I ‘ope you are ‘ungry. You are ‘bout to ‘ave you’ taste buds tantalized with a Cajun meal dat will compare wit’ notine you ‘ave ever experienced before. Prepared by you’s truly.”

Boudreaux (CO)

Kady smiled as they entered the holodeck. “Wow… it’s beautiful. I hadn’t gotten to this part of the country before leaving. Will likely seek it out when we get him.” She laughed softly as they walked down the street. When they stopped, she smiled. “I am definitely hungry. So I am gonna hold you to all the hype, Captain.” She laughed and let him lead her into the Bistro.

When they steeped inside, the restaurant would appear much bigger on the inside that the out. The main dining area easily had room for a dozen or so tables of various size. A swinging door on the back wall led into the kitchen from which escaped the scents of various spices and foods.

For this night, though, there was only one table, with place settings for two. In the center of the table, in a vase was a single, long-stemmed pink rose. In the background, New Orleans jazz was softly playing . . . .

“Welcome to Boudreaux’s cher. Dis place ‘as been in my family for genera-SHONS, as well as de recipes you will be enjoyine.”

Remy led Kady to the table and pulled out a chair for her.

After she sat, he opened the wine bottle and poured her a glass of smooth Jadot Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay. “Dis will go perfectly, wit’ de meal. . . ” He poured imself a glass and sat down across from.

Boudreaux (CO)

There was something about being called ‘cher’ from a Frenchman that always struck Kady as an intimate nickname and it sent a small shiver down her spine when he spoke it. “Well, this is pretty amazing, Captain. I admit I hadn’t realized it was so grand.” She moved to the table and settled in as he poured the wine. Taking her glass she waited till he had his and smiled raising hers towards him in a toast. “To a wonderful evening and an even more amazing voyage.” She smiled as she watched him. This was going to be an interesting tour to say the least.

He raised his glass in return. “An’ to new beginines.”

He was about to sit down when a bell rang from kitchen. “De appritizers are fini. I will be right back.”

A moment later, Remy returned with a covered plate. Setting it on the table, he removed the cover to reveal . . .

balles de crocodiles, made wit’ potatoes an’ alligator.”

Boudreaux (CO)

Kady covered her mouth with one hand to stifle a laugh. “Are they truly crocodile … balls?” She was giggling. “I could handle eating the crocodile, just not sure about his … ummmm…” She bit her lip and dropped her hand as she looked up at him. Her eyes grew wide and she shrugged. “Ummm… ok I guess. I’m game to try one. But just try, mind you.” She moved her glass so he could serve.

Remy checkled. “No, dey are no’ de testcles, jus’ gator meat. You take de meat an’ mix in some diced bell pepper, diced onion, lots of spicy Cajun seasoning, a dash of sea salt, black pepper, minced garlic,, more hot sauce, den roll it into ‘balls’, cover wit’ breadcrumbs and cornmeal. Deep fry dem for a few an’ viola. . . .Gator Balls.”

“But, I do ‘preciate you’ sense of adventure, dat you are willine to sample de testicles of gators. You can only get dose if de man loses de gator wrestling match, an’ sometimes de gator, he does no’ always lose.” He suppressed a sarcastic smile as he bit into one of the balls.

Boudreaux (CO)

Her face turned redder than the sunset as she shook her head. “I thought… well some cultures it’s a delicacy.” She laughed again and stabbed her fork straight into one with a wicked grin on her face. If he was still thinking of her slip of thought, he might wince at her reaction. “They actually look really good, Captain. Almost like Chicken Croquets.” She put a couple on her plate and smiled. “So what else is on the menu this evening? I’d rather get all my embarrassment out at once. Easier on the rest of the night.” She laughed and settled back in her seat to relax as they ate.

Remy smiled until she stabbed one of the gator balls. His smile faded into a wince, followed by a small cough. In a less aggressive manner, Remy added two of the balls to his own plate.

“Well, you said you enjoy pasta, so I ‘ope you are prepared for de Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta I ‘ave prepared. One of Tantie Mattie’s favorites. She usually prepared dis dish when hostine Italian friends. De Cajun seasonine adds a bit more bite dan what de are used to. Still, dere were no complaints. It should be ready in less dan 10 minutes.”

He took a drink of his wine and asked, “Tell me, what should I know ‘bout Kadence Argona dat is no’ in you’ file?”

Boudreaux (CO)

Kady smiled as Remy winced. She listened as he described dinner and smiled. “I can’t wait. As to what isn’t in my files, I guess not much. Once I’m officially accepted by you you will get the rest of my file. As I am guessing you aren’t planning on denying me a spot on your ship, I may as well tell you. I’m still subject to activation if I am needed. I’m a special ops, ummm… problem solver. You will get basic orders about my activation if it comes to that. So you will know where I am going, though probably not the why. And you will know what my parameters and needs are as far as use of ship assets. Usually that means a shuttle, or weapons, or something simple. Most everything else I need, I have. And unless specified, every activation ends with no way to trace back to this ship. That’s the plan, anyway.” She laughed and finished the appetizer on her plate and leaned back to sip her drink. “Oh yes, and I draw and dance.” She laughed.

When she said “activation”, Remy stopped chewing, and every sense of pleasantries left the room. He gripped the fork tighter and swallowed.

“Lt, I am goine to ask dis ques-SHON once, an’ only once. I expect a 100% completely ‘onest answer. If I find out down de road later, you lied, I will personally trow you out de airlock.”

“Are you an operative of Sec-SHON 31?”

“I know ‘ow de work. Once you are in, you only get out if you die, or dey let you go. But, you are never really free. Dey draw you back in time an’ again to do de dirty work. Dey hold on to dat informa-SHON. trust me, I ‘ave tried.”
