It was late. Well, late by her body clock, still kinda early on the ship. It was barely an hour into the third shift and Adi lay in her bed staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. Tomorrow she would begin her check ins and officially begin her duty on the Wolverine as AI Specialist and engineer. She had glanced at the profile picture of her new supervisor, but hadn’t read his file yet. Her mind wandered over and over on the kind of guy he was. She purposefully didn’t read files before meeting people because she didn’t want it to cloud her initial judgement. Just because someone with the ability to record it thought one way about a person, didn’t mean everyone would.
Her own file was testament to that. She had read it and had disagreed. She didn’t have a temper like the Psychs had said. She just didn’t see a need to pander to the insolent types who thought they were better or smarter than her just because they tested better and kissed backsides more proficiently, and had thusly gained a higher rank. Rank, in her opinion, was no measure of knowledge. Now, that being said, she respected her Chain of Command more than most. While rank didn’t always mark knowledge, she knew complete idiots (at least most of the time) didn’t get leadership positions. In the case of the Wolverine, especially, she doubted the CO, XO or even her own Chief, had gotten their positions based on flattery and a few well placed ‘daddy’ letters.
Four the seventh time in two hours, Adi sighed. “Ok, Adi… time to do something.” She got up and dressed in a pair of well fitting denims and a hoodie that was a size or two too big. It didn’t flatter her small figure beneath it, but she was going for comfort, not looks. Throwing her hair back in a messy ponytail and slipping on her work out shoes, she quickly left her quarters and headed for engineering.
Entering the bay on deck 14, she didn’t bother to look into the Chief’s office, figuring he was gone for the night anyway. Stopping at the nearest console, she tapped her name in and was glad to see she was rostered already. A second query confirmed her clearance codes weren’t activated yet. “No worries,” she muttered, “I just wanna meet ya… not work on you. At least… not yet.” She tapped up a rundown on the AI called “ENINTADI ” and used her arms to brace her as she leaned over the console and read about the new system she had come to see and work on this rotation. For the next four years, she was going to get to know Entity and help keep her up and running. She wondered, absently, if the AI considered itself male or female and her smile lifted slightly at the thought.
Lt JG Acadia LeBlanc
Engineer/AI Specialist“Keep your hands from that AI without my permission. I don’t want another damn lab test interfering with my engines.” A voice belonging to the CE suddenly barked behind her.
He had been in his office and noticed the Engineer slip in. Mikel many times worked late. He had no “friends” on the ship to pass his time with and slept only about 4-5 hours a night. He did not like the experimental driver or advanced AI’s etc..He believed in his engineering skills and nothing else.

Acadia didn’t bother to turn around. She finished typing in the query she had and was backing up from the information. “Well I guess it’s a good thing I wasn’t running any damned test then, isn’t it?* She finished and turned around and leaned on the console. As she sized up the man behind her, she didn’t fail to notice he was her new Chief. “As to ‘keeping my hands off’, I’ll have permission in a few hours so I guess it’s no skin off my nose to let it be till then.” She crossed her arms. “Unless you just want to get it out of the way now and go to bed. I mean, then you can wake up knowing at least you have one less sentence to bark at me tomorrow… Chief…” The last word almost a teasing dare.
Acadia
Eng/AI Spec“Would you like to manually scrub plasma conduits for a week?” He asked her as he stepped into her personal space. “Before you reply think on it Lt. Junior Grade”
He eyed the young engineer. Was there something there? She might be useful to him.

She didn’t back down and her eyes narrowed slightly, her head tilting lightly to the side. “If your conduits need scrubbing, it strikes me you run a lousy ship or your crew is lazy and you haven’t figured it out. Now, with all due respect, Chief I know you are no slacker. I’ve done my homework. The Wolverine is one helluva ship. So the only thing I can think of is that your crew is lazy. In which case, maybe you should make me a shift supervisor and I’ll see to it the conduits are scrubbed properly.... Sir.” The final word spoken with genuine respect and her nod accompanying it gave word to the same.

Eng/AI SpecOOC: Question for clarification… the only “new” AI on the ship relates to a previous mission, and there is a specific NPC who is in charge of it… was that the “Entity” you were going to mess around with?
GM
(Misread… thought the AI called itself “Entity” but it was the original one from Sect 31 that did… so I fixed the comment to ‘looking at the ENINTADI ‘… my bad… Meli)Petrov let her other comments slide. He saw she was quick on her feet and not a person to back down. He might need her in his little battle against the XO. You never knew who would be useful.
“Get to work Lt. or go to your quarters. Which ever. Your dismissed.” He said but not in his usual belittling tone. More in a casual tone.

She smiled. He was someone she was coming to admire and even respect. More than she expected in 24 hours, anyway. She uncrossed her arms and smiled. “Bed, I think. Work tomorrow after my official check in with you at 0700… Chief.” She laughed but gave him a respectful nod.
She had turned to go and glanced back over her shoulder with a smile. “It’s been a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Petrov. Have a good evening.” She then disappeared into the hallway with a hummed tune on her lips.

Petrov let her walk out and then left himself. How could he play her to his advantage.
