Posted by… suppressed (11) by the Post Ghost! 👻Hours later, Remy had an odd desire to return to his quarters and look at Henri D’Aramis rapier that was in his quarters.
GM
Needing a small break from the investigation, Remy sought the solitude of his quarters. Seeing his collection of prizes usually calmed his mind. There was something about the touch or feel of many of the relics, that was reassuring.
As soon as the door closed behind him, he could once again sense that something was . . . off. Something about his quarters was different, he just couldn’t place what that was . . .
Moving around and picking up each item, remembering the story behind it, the story of how he acquired the items, brought him peace when his mind was unsettled. . . the baseball, the revolver, the manuscript, the rapier. . . the rapier was his favorite. When he drew it from the scabbard, he could picture himself as the swashbuckling musketeer, protecting his king and queen from the evil Cardinal Richelieu.
Grabbing the hilt, Remy slowly withdrew the blade and held it aloft. . . .
Boudreaux (CO)
Nothing happened. His normal urge to dash off to the holodeck and play a Three Musketeers related fantasy was… lacking. It was it all the power that the sword once had over him, was zapped out of the sword. It didn’t look any different… it just felt different.
GM
Remy swung the rapier around in several arcing sweeps, a parry, thrust, a swipe, and another thrust. He usually felt like a child living out a boyhood fantasy when handling the blade, but this time, that feeling was missing. The enjoyment and the sound of the blade slicing the air was gone. . . no grin came across his lips, no adrenaline rush, nothing. . . .
Perhaps it was the current mystery of the toy car, maybe the lack of having Ayla aboard, or possibly stress that he wasn’t even aware of, that caused the lack of enjoyment, but something was missing.
Remy slid the blade back into the scabbard with an audible ‘schwing’. He strapped the belt around his waist. Maybe that’s what the problem was. Pulling the rapier from his hip with same audible sound, he swung the blade around once again, only to once again feel. . . nothing.
Boudreaux (CO)
Boudreaux had an powerful urge to reach out to Commander Wells on a secured subspace channel.
GM
After a moment, Remy replaced the blade, removed the belt and lay it on his desk. Another strange feeling took over. . . he remembered Helenacsaying something to him about things not always being as they appeared, something along those lines. Whatever it was he had an irresistible urge to contact her.
Sitting at his desk, the blade beside him, he opened a secured channel to Starfleet Command and Cmdr. Wells. He sat back and patiently waited for the connection. . . .
Boudreaux (CO)
“This is Commander Helena Wells. Ah, Captain Boudreaux! How do you do? I understand Starfleet gave your ship leisure time at Risa. To what do I owe the pleasure of your … transmission,” said Wells.
GM
Remy smiled as Helena appeared on the screen. “It is good to see you again, ‘elena. I ‘oope you are well.”
“I am … okay, though I have a premonition that tells me something you are going to tell me is going to make it not okay,” replied Wells.
“I am afraid dis is no’ a social call, Commander. Dere is sometine strange goine on ‘ere on de Wolverine. Knowine you’ penchant for de strange and peculiar, I was ‘opine to pick you’ brain. My crew ‘as no’ been able to come up wit’ any answers. . . .”
Remy began telling her of the latest goings-on, the RnR to Risa, the shuttle craft’s accident, and the appearance of the toy car. . . instinct told him everything was linked together somehow, but was damned if he knew how. He considered telling her about the difference in the sword for the time being, but again, was sure it was somehow linked with every other strange occurrence on the ship.
Boudreaux (CO)
“You recall my background, Captain that I told you privately about?” asked Wells.
“An’ dat is why I contacted, you Commander. For some insights an’ possibly some answers.”
“Unfortunately, it seems my past has now caught up to your current situation,” said Wells. “And given the USS Wolverine’s reputation among the fleet, Captain, I believe you are being targeted before you are given a chance to be more deeply involved in my past.”
“That will be enough, Helena,” said a voice. A portal opened, one that didn’t trip any alarms, and an Admiral walked out of it. The room was then mysteriously sealed. Sensors would also not detect the presence of the new person or anything wrong with the room. “You are dismissed, Commander. As far as you are concerned, your past has nothing to do with your current present or future – you are permanently retired from that particular active service. Is that understood?”
“Yes Admiral Frederic,” said H.G. Wells in surprised. “Wells out.”
“Admiral Irene Frederic, Captain Remy Boudreaux. You may sit, if you like. You and your crew have been given an invitation to endless wonder, Captain. Unfortunately, this invitation is extended rather forcibly… due to a threat on your life. And I’m afraid that in this particular situation, since you know a little bit of the world I am about to reveal, I need your help as well.”

Remy remained calm, but raised an eyebrow in surprise. He had spoken with the admiral, but this was their first meeting in person. The situation must be more dire than he thought.
He stood and offered Frederic a seat. “So de shuttle accident was an attempt on MY life. I am aware dat you are no’ normal Starfleet based on our past conversa-SHONS, but ‘ow can you be sure?”
Boudreaux (CO)
Frederic sat. “A cargo ship containing several artifacts intended for safe keeping was stolen. We have a list of those artifacts stolen however… reports from several field agents that coming close to locating an artifact only to have it disappear before they could obtain it. Someone else is collecting artifacts and we don’t have a complete list of exactly what is missing. Also, I was appraised by the situation by Lieutenant Andreas Mado on what happened to you. Your reputation in the fleet is known – and I’ve had my eye on you for awhile, Captain. Even before Starfleet gave your ship the Improbability Drive for your previous mission, but I have been keeping a closer eye since that drive is currently embedded within your ship. In addition to you being targeted, several future potential candidates for my organization have been recently gone missing… whether they have been taken or killed is yet unknown.”
“Mado is one of you’ people? Why does dat no’ surprise me. . .”
She pulled out a pursue, seemingly from thin air, and then donning on a set of purple gloves, pulled out a large canister device which had the Captain’s rapier in it. “As a sign of trust, Captain, this is being returned to you. I apologize for Lt. Mado taking it without your knowledge or permission but that is unfortunately one of our mission directives – to bag, tag, and store artifacts. I must warn you however, no one has researched the effects of your rapier yet. It might be harmless and it might not. Artifacts have metaphysical properties which even to today – with all the science available to Starfleet and the Federation – is not yet understood. This runs with a standard Federation power cell, and must be switched out every week. Should it fail to do so, an emergency beacon will activate, and an agent will come retrieving it.”
“My rapier is one of dese artifacts you speak of. . .? Den what. . . ?”
He moved across the room and picked up the replaced blade. He pulled it from its’ scabbard and held it. Again, something felt of, but he couldn’t place what it was.
“I would be careful…” warned Frederic, but the good Captain still proceeded on.
Picking up the sword, she had just returned to him, Remy withdrew it from the scabbard. Immediately, he felt the difference and the change. He had a strong desire to run through the corridors of the ship with the thought of rescuing fair damsels in distress. This was the correct blade, this is what was missing. . . . he smiled and almost regretfully slid the blade back into its sheath. “I see what you mean, Admiral. The original does ‘ave an effect. I wasn’t aware of it until just now, when I held it again. Amazine.”
“You remind me of an Agent who was under my care many years ago. Artifacts have various metaphysical properties – some extremely dangerous, and some not as dangerous. Most effects are unknown and like with a career in Starfleet, always carries some danger – part of the job, they would say,” remarked Frederic, “I would, however, avoiding any future interaction with the real artifact, Captain, and keep it preserved. The container also does an excellent job of preserving artifacts, and if anyone were to ask, it is not a lie when you tell people it is a specially designed historical preservation container.”
She handed the Captain a pair of the purple gloves. “These gloves are designed to prevent the metaphysical properties of an artifact activating. While changing the power cell, which it has three – triple redundancy based on Federation design principles – the gloves should ensure no unintended reaction happens with the object stored within this specially designed canister that suppresses the metaphysical properties.”
He accepted the gloves and looked at the hilts of the two swords. He could see no difference in the two.
“As for your crew, I leave it to your discretion how much you wish to reveal to them, but bare in mind, this is a secret that has a heavy burden and price to keep. Obviously, I shall provide you and your ship with the necessary logistical support for your mission. Though I have been recently informed by Lt. Mado that your Chief of Security Lt. Claire has found an unusual coin on Risa that appears to have not originated from Risa.”
GM
At the mention of Alita’s name, Remy total focus returned to Frederic. “‘Lita? Is she in any danger?” His hand moved to the comm badge, but he paused before making the call, waiting for her reply. . . .
Boudreaux (CO)
“Depends on how she has handled the situation. I have been informed your ship is a mistrusting type of lot, so I suspect the artifact is within her possession and not secure.
Whether if Ms. Alita is in danger, I can not say. She is probably on her way here to inform that Lt. Mado is in her office and the coin she has found,” replied Frederic, “I will remind you that this information is considered highly classified but I know that keeping highly classified from your crew is not the best way for a crew to work together. I am leaving it to your discretion if you wish to inform your crew or not, but please bare in mind the risks if this information does get out – for the Federation, for Starfleet, for my organization and for your crew. The chaos it would produce would likely cause every historical artifact to be questioned and stolen in hopes that it might have the metaphysical powers they might gain to use for unknown purposes.”She produced another container, but smaller, one that would be able to keep the coin. “This container is for the coin, it should neutralize any of the effects. Captain, should you accept, your ship is to proceed to Starbase 74 to pick up artifact containment supplies and modules to outfit your ship to scan and pick up artifact signatures. Discovering how the coin arrived on Risa might lead you to certain answers, as well as that model car your Chief Engineer and Chief Science Officer are currently examining.
If you happen to get any gut feelings about a particular place you should go, I would trust it. Also, Helena Wells is not to be involved moving forward, I made my promise to her to keep her out of Warehouse business, and I intend to honor it. I am certain you know a couple of black market places you might want to investigate for leads. Agent Mado is highly trained to handle artifacts and knows how to deal with artifacts appropriately. If you have any further questions, contact me at Starfleet Command.”A chime on the Captain’s quarters sounded. When Captain Boudreaux turned around to look at the door, and back where Admiral Frederic was standing, Admiral Frederic had disappeared.
