Posted by… suppressed (23) by the Post Ghost! 👻She didn’t feel any effects immediately by picking up the coin but her intuition was telling her that the coin might release its effects the longer she held it, even with the napkin.
GM
“Strange.” He said, looking at the coin. “Well, I don’t think we have a tricorder, how about I put that wrapped up in my pocket and see if there is any other treasure about?” he suggested, looking back to her.
-Cel
Alita wrapped the coin up and handed it to him.
“If you really want. Be careful, I’m starting to feel a little strange again. And as for tricorder, I already took a reading. Everything was normal.” she said motioning to the tricorder on her belt and wondering if Cel had been affected much more than she had by handling the coin.
OOC: Sorry, couldn’t resist. Read back a few posts.
- Alita
OCC: How would this coin effect Squared, which no one knows about? Squared is a separate consciousnesses/lifeform inside Celador. I am wondering how it would effect both of them so I can judge reactions appropriately.
-Cel
OOC: The coin acts like if you took a shot of rum, and continued shots of rum while you physically touch it – directly or indirectly. So… if Squared is affected when Celador intakes alcohol directly, then Squared would be affected. Otherwise, if Squared can take over Celador’s body without directly being affected by alcohol, then it would be basically another consciousness taking over Celador’s body, but then would be exposed to the effects of the coin after the body is taken over by Squared.
IC:
The coin’s odd metaphysical properties began acting on the person who held it.
GM
OCC: ‘Squared’ Can take over Celador’s body. But they have an agreement where that won’t happen, except in extreme circumstances. Also, I never really gave it much thought as to what kind of drunk he would be.
IC: Cel felt it almost instantly after taking the coin from Alita. “We could have a lot of fun with this.” He said smiling as he put the coin, wrapped in the napkin in his pocket. He laughed. “We may have to take turns hold it.” He giggled a bit.
‘What is going on with you?’ Squared asked curiously. Squared couldn’t feel the effects without taking over the body and he wasn’t going to do that.
-Cel
Any climbing with the coin would likely be dangerous unless the person holding it was dragged out. The only question was how. Lieutenant Andreas Mado, the Federation Security Attache assigned to ‘watchdog’ the USS Vanguard apparently had tracked the coin using his special tricorder. He noticed the climbing gear left behind, and wondered who he was going to encounter. He had a partner also on the USS Vanguard, but due to their discretionary roles, they were not currently together. They were in contact through an unknown means however.
Mado climbed down to find Cel and Alita. Upon reaching the bottom, he said, “Good afternoon! What a strange coincidence running into you both!”
GM
Alita had been just about to ask Cel what he meant by fun when Mado appeared.
“Coincidence sure… Just doing a little recreational climbing. And you?”
Alita didn’t know Mado well enough to have her guard immediately up but she also didn’t really believe in coincidence either.
- Alita
“Exploring the less known paths,” said Mado. He observed Cel, “Is… he alright?” asked Mado.
GM
Cel wasn’t paying to much attention, he was focusing on trying to get rid of the coin. He pulled it back out of his pocket and, hands trembling he set down the coin and napkin on the ground.
“It’s been a very long time since I felt anything like that.” He said, just noticing the newcomer. He frowned and narrowed his eyes at Mado. What was he doing here, he wondered. He had permission to be here, provided he stayed with Alita. The terms of his release from prison granted certain liberties and as long as he stayed with Alita, he wasn’t violating them. So what was the Federation Security Attache doing here?
-Cel
“Ah, I see you found something mysterious.” Mado pulled out a silver bag and a pair of purple gloves. He put the gloves on, picked up the napkin and dropped the coin into the bag. It made sparks, which Mado then sealed it.
“I suppose I owe you an explanation?” smiled Mado.
GM
Alita didn’t know Mado very well but he had just moved into the ‘I don’t think I like you.’ column.
“That would be the understatement of the day. So please, begin.” she said coolly.
- Alita
“I belong to a group within Federation security that deals with objects that have gained unusual metaphysical properties, and one of my jobs is to neutralize said objects and send them to storage,” said Mado. “That is basically all I can tell you, the exact details require… a higher clearance.”
GM
Celador looked at Mado with a look of disbelief. He was about to speak when he heard Alita start to talk.
“Really? Well, I don’t know how to tell you this, but I don’t think I believe you. Now I’m guessing that my belief or disbelief doesn’t really make a difference and neither does anything you just told me. Because the simple fact is, you are attempting to steal something that my officer and I rightfully found. Do you really think that’s a good idea, clearance or no, imagined or real?” Alita asked.
Alita’s eyes sparked with fire. Her inner strength was showing more than it had in quite some time and the simple fact was this man didn’t know who he was messing with.
- Alita
As she spoke, Cel moved off to one side as best he could, trying to position himself to the side of Mado. He could feel Squared approval as he did so.
-Cel
.
“Well, let me ask you then, Lieutenant, Ensign, when you held this coin, did you feel anything unusual?”Alita felt no need to put on a show for this man.
“Perhaps a slight feeling of intoxication.”“Alright, now hold the coin in the bag,” holding the bag out to Alita, “Don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe for the moment. I should note that the bag’s neutralizing effects are not permanent. They are merely temporary. These bags are specially made to temporary neutralize metaphysical properties, though its exact duration various from object to object.”
She felt no drunk effects.
“You are the Chief of Security for the Wolverine, Lieutenant. If I am not mistaken, your job is to protect the ship from external threats from the ship, and in large part, to the Federation. My job is no different, which is to secure threats against the Federation. This object is a threat to the universe, in large part of its metaphysical properties that are yet understood. Also, its use could be potentially deadly, or dangerous depending if it was abused in some matter. Despite your personal objection to it being your personal belonging since you discovered it, what would you do if you discovered a device from the future which was say, a bomb capable of destroying everything in within a 2 light year radius? Would you make the same claim? What if you didn’t know it was a bomb from the future but something that looked ornate and pretty? Or, say, in the case documented on Deep Space 9 on stardate 46531.2, an extremely beautiful crystal that was brought on board that threaten the entire station but turned out to be a space creature egg?” asked Mako, calmly. He made no attempt to explain his words with passion, but chose a very neutral tone much like a Vulcan would speak.
“Given those circumstances, Lieutenant, would it not be the responsible thing to turn a dangerous object over to a professional who is capable of handling it?” asked Mado.
GM
Alita waited for him to finally, finally, finish.
“Given all that you have just expounded upon, the universe is a dangerous place past, present, and future. Perhaps you should remove yourself from the equation. It might be safer that way and it would definitely be safer for you to stop speaking to me like a child.” she said with deadly calm.
- Alita, MO/COS
Mako didn’t take Alita’s bait, although he would have very much like to tell her to stop acting like a child. “Look Lieutenant, I have a job to do, it happens to be this particular thing and I can’t go into specific details because it’s classified. That coin is dangerous, that is what I am telling you, and it is my standing orders to secure that coin,” replied Mako, “If you wish to file a report of grievance for your item once it has been analyzed, you may do so with Federation Security and the proper person in my chain of command will contact you. Now, if you will please, return the bag with the coin to me so that I can have it secured to prevent any more unusual metaphysical properties activate from the coin.”
GM
“So you just happened to be here at this particular time, the same time we were?” Cel asked, doubt in his voice. Was this just an excuse to check up to ensure he was following his parole? He tried not to get paranoid but he didn’t buy this whole coincidence.
-Cel
“I can not confirm or deny whether I have the means or do not have the means of locating objects with metaphysical properties,” replied Mako and merely left it at that for the Ensign’s question. Logically, one would have to assume, after being told something as extraordinary as that objects can be imbued with metaphysical properties, there would be devices capable of locating them… which would explain Mako’s presence, if that is what he happened to possess.
GM
Alita was sensing a great shift in this man’s personality which made her quite suspicious of him and even more unwilling to do as he demanded. But the Wolverine was her ship, her home, and her family. This outsider was not going to push her around.
“Actually it’s going to work like this. You are going to accompany Ens. Theinna, the coin, and myself back to the Wolverine where I, personally, will untangle all of this. Because I, personally, don’t give a damn what branch of spooks-r-us you work for. I am, however, very unhappy that you’ve ruined my outing. Move it boy. I hope youc an climb as well as you talk.” she said pointing imperiously at him.
“Cel, on his six.” she said calmly.
- Alita, MO/COS
Celador nodded and moved behind Mako, grabbing his stuff as he did. “Lets go.” He wasn’t happy either and it showed in his voice. He was looking forward to spending time with Alita, maybe figure out what this might be between them, especially after the last mission. Now that was ruined because of this guy.
-Cel
Mako internally sighed. Some people just want to make life complicated, he resigned. He silently climbed back out of the hole with Alita and Cel, with Alita still in possession of the coin and the bag it was in. As they completed their climb, Alita felt a little tipsy. The bag’s containment effects were wearing off, like Mako said it would.
GM
As Alita climbed out of the cave she stepped aside and waited for the others. She took the bag the coin was in, folded it into another bag in her pack, and tucked it away into an inner pocket close to her body. It was true, Alita was feeling a bit tipsy but Alita had the added advantage of drinking with the Wolverine’s CO on a semi regular basis and planned to put that tolerance to good use at this point and time.
- Alita, MO/COS
The normal bag that Alita used did not dampen the effects like she hoped, and the coin’s effects started to affect her a little more severely than she would have liked to admit. Mako observed Alita’s behavior, and rather than offering any advice, just simply asked, “Are you alright Lieutenant?”
Mako didn’t want to tell Alita she was wrong or that he was right, given the situation was tense. She insisted on holding the object despite his objections, and there was apparently no way around it. Normally, his department’s protocol was avoidance of confrontation but when the object was potentially doing harm, that’s when protocol was less than… optimal. There were other ways to neutralize the coin’s effects that were a little more effective, but the equipment was stored away and unreachable at the moment. The specialized bags were used for temporary situations and worked on small objects… usually.
GM
Alita could tell that the coin was having the effect that Mado stated it would. There was no actual denying it now.
“The sooner we return to the Wolverine, the better off the three of us will be.” she stated.
=^=Wolverine. Lt. Claire. Three to beam up.=^=
OOC: Can we please straighten out the character’s name?
- Alita, MO/COS
OOC: Sorry, my memory is fuzzy. The name of the character is “Lieutenant Andreas Mado (Federation Security Attache)”
I was remembering a thing from Final Fantasy called “Mako” :-P
IC:
=/\= Acknowledged. =/\=
They were whisked away in the transporter beam, arriving at the transporter room.
