Reilly stepped onto the bridge and looked around. He had been on board less than twenty minutes, just long enough to drop his carried belongings in his quarters and make sure he looked the part. Glancing at the empty Executive Officer’s chair for a moment, he then looked ta the rest of the stations, nodding to each of the Bridge crew on duty. He then made his way to the Ready Room and pressed the chime.

Reilly, Incoming XO

OOC: Who you calling old? :)

IC: From inside the Ready Room, Reilly would hear the response of “Entre’”.

As the door slid open, he would see rising from behind the desk, his new CO. The man was more than half a foot taller than Jason, and solidly built. His dark shaggy hair was tousled and matched the dark van dyke goatee covering the lower part of his face. The goatee was neatly trimmed, but the man also wore a five o’clock shadow, definitely not Starfleet regulation. His dark eyes were intense as they took Jason in, but there was also a love of adventure visible in his stare. When he spoke, it was with a Cajun French dialect, straight from the bayou of Louisiana.

“Cmdr. Reilly, welcome aboard de Wolverine. I am Capt. Remy Boudreaux.”

Remy offered Jason a seat on the other side of the desk and then sat himself. “You ‘ave quite de impressive dossier, Commander. ‘Avine a background is very important do dis posi-SHON. I am wonderine what it is you did wrong do get sent to us, no?”

Boudreaux (CO)

Reilly sat as the Captain spoke, and settled into the chair with an ease not seen often in personnel reporting to a brand new Commanding Officer. Leaning back he shrugged slightly. “Now what makes you think I am the one being punished here, Captain? Maybe my being here is a punishment for you. I mean, we really should consider all the possibilities, don’t you think sir?” There was a slight sense of amusement in his voice and a slight smile on his lips; but if one had paid close attention it could be seen in the miniscule eye movements that the officer was taking in every detail of the office and the man seated at the desk.

Reilly, XO

“Touche’, Commander,” Remy replied. “Cept, I do no’ look at beine assigned to de Wolverine as a punishment. I was given command because of my background, both within Starfleet an’ tines I took part in before entering de Academy. Over my lifetime, I ‘ave acquired a very particular set of skills. Skills dat ‘ave served me well as an Intel operative, as well as de commandine officer of a starship whose miss-SHONS are no’ always done by de book. You will find by servine’ on dis ship, no’ eve’ytine is always black an’ white. We often step into de grey areas of Federa-SHON rules.”

Boudreaux (CO)

Reilly chuckled out loud. “Look, Skipper. Let’s just lay the cards on the table, shall we? You have read my file. And I’ve read yours. So we both know that each of us are not only capable of operating outside the normal frameworks; but that we both probably prefer it that way.” He spread his arms wide.”This whole ship is a giant middle finger to the beaurocrats who think accountants and over the hill Admirals who think they know how to get the more tasteless and dirty jobs done.” and he dropped his arms back down. “They hate you, this ship, this crew. The Wolverine is a shining reminder of their ineptitude and unwillingness to do what is necessary.” and he looked at Boudreaux intently.

“I don’t see this assignment as a punishment, Captain. Far from it. I’m actually very excited to be here. Especially in this role. That being said, I’m also not naive enough to think I was sent here by accident or that my transition here is not going to ruffle a few feathers.” and he shrugged dismissively. “And trust me, if I didn’t want the job, I wouldn’t be here.” and he openly took a long look around. “No, I wouldnt worry about me or my abilities to operate in ‘the gray areas’. I’ve spent a great deal of time in them…” and he looked directly at Remy. “And I like it there.” he added with a smile and a wink.

Reilly, Incoming XO

The CO sat quietly for a moment, staring soberly at the man before him. Slowly his mouth began to turn into a grin.

“Merci, Commander. Dat is what I was ‘opine to ‘ear from you. You were at de top of my list and I lobbied very loudly to get you assigned to my ship. You’ Intel background an’ willineness to “cross de line” is akin to my own.”

Remy reached into his drawer and pulled out two glasses and the ever-present bottle of bourbon. “Straight from Ken-tuk-ee, Commander.”

He poured the glasses and slid one in Reilly’s direction. “Welcome to de Wolverine, Cmdr. Jason Reilly.”

Boudrreaux (CO)

Jason smiled and took the glass. “Much appreciated, Captain. I’m happy to be here.” and he took a sip. “Hm. Not bad. Remind me, and I’ll give you a bottle from my… collection. I have one in mind I think you will enjoy.” and he took another sip. Leaning back and setting the glass on his thigh, he looked at Boudreaux and said “So tell me, Captain. What do I need to know before meeting the Department Heads and the crew? I’ve reviewed the files, but you and I both know thats not worth much in the long run. Who do you like? Who is trustworthy? Who isnt?” and he smiled a bit. “Any relationships I need to be aware of? And how is the overall morale?”

Reilly, XO

“First off, Cmdr. Erin. ‘E is de man you are replacine. Good man, good friend. I trust ‘im implicitly. Decided ‘e wants to devote more time to opera-SHONS. ‘E was a great XO, bu’ I don’ tink he ever felt comfortable in dat role on de Wolverine. We go back to de Saracen where ‘e was de XO and I was de CTO. We worked well togedder. When he was promoted to Captain and given command of de Olympic, ‘e asked me to join ‘im as de leader of Special Ops. He was demoted for indiscretions, which you can read about in ‘is file. When I was given command of de Wolverine, ‘e was my first choice for XO and served loyally an’ dutifully in dat posi-SHON.”

Boudreaux (CO)

“Met him coming out of his former and my new quarters. That could’ve gone sideways, for sure. But he seemed amiable enough. I’ll chat with him first. Who else?” and he clicked his head to the side. “Tell me about Mr. Petrov.” he said with a definate twinkle in his eye.
