As she got the next bottle, set set the glasses back up again.
“You are goine to repay de favor sometime, you know. Take me ‘ome to meet the rest of my future. . . descendants?”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita leaned back in her chair for a bit and her warm gaze cooled slightly and grew serious.
“I actually really need to. There’s someone I want you to meet before it’s too late. My Grandmother, Anna, would be your grand daughter and she’s not doing so well. So let me know when you want to go and I will round them up if I have to call on Uncle Kord’s help myself.” she said firmly.
Pausing, she let out a long breath and picked up the glass. Looking down into it, she smiled and drank it down. In her mind the past had already been messed up. The present was pretty well screwed as well. So why not start mucking about with the future?

Bump
“I would like dat very much, ‘Lita.” His look grew wistful as a redness began to form around his eyes. “A gran’daughter. . .de chil’ of de chil’ I never knew I ‘ad. . . .”
Remy took a deep breath and shook himself back to reality. His ever impish grin returned as he said, “Yes, let’s make dis ‘appen. De sooner de better, if she is no’ doine well. I jus’ ‘ope de shock does no’ kill ‘er.”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita sobered in that instant. That was something she had truly not thought about.
“Anna was a cyberneticist. She had more than a passing interest in the Borg but nothing suicidal. She, and my grandfather, and a set of 12 year old twin uncles I will never meet, were coming back to Earth when the shuttle the twins and my grandfather were in was caught up in a huge Borg attack.”
Alita paused and poured another drink.
Remy took the bottle and refilled his glass only halfway this time. He replaced the cork and set the bottle aside. Alita was putting the shots down quite easily by now and he didn’t want her to regret what she might be feeling tomorrow morning.
“Anna’s shuttle popped out of warp just in time to witness it all. I don’t know how she and the others got away but she’s never been the same. Unfortunately she refuses to stay in one place so we have hired a very strong Betaziod telepath to be her companion. It works most of the time.” she finished quietly.
- Alita
“Mon dieu,” he replied soberly. “Dat ‘ad to be a very traumatic experience. I ‘ave seen friends, shipmates, and colleagues killed in de line of duty, but being ‘elpless . . . I canno’ imagine it.”
He shook his head and downed his last shot. “Per’aps, it might be better to no’ introduce me as ‘er grandfather, but as a friend of yours. I would no’ want to cause her any more stress or confu-SION.”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita nodded.
“Depending on how good she’s doing will depend on how I can introduce you. My friend, my Captain, a historian interested in our family… You never know. I’ll have to discuss it with Liza when we get there. That’s her companion you see. She’s spending a lot of time on Earth right now. That’s where she’s been the most stable lately so I think that would be best.”
Alita noticed Remy had corked the bottle and thought it was just as well. Her mind was wandering to places it shouldn’t go but she was still just sober enough to reel it back in.
- Alita
“I tink dat would be for de best,” Remy answered. “I am ‘opine I was able to make you feel better, mon petite?”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita had a bunch of new feeling to worry about at that moment but they weren’t open to discussion.
“I don’t know if I would say better, just different in a good way so sure, better. As long as we go to New Orleans after California, I’ll be fine. I think after seeing Anna I’m going to need to relax. Besides, I need inspiration for my next party on the ship. I’m thinking Mardi Gras.” she said with a smile, truly feeling better.
- Alita
His smile was genuine as he said, “You will love New Orleans, an’ my family will love you. I jus’ don’ know ‘ow I am goine to explain dat I ‘ave gran’chilin to my parents when dey ‘ave none yet. I ‘ave a feeline dere is goine to be a LOT of bourbon beine drunk when we get dere.”
Remy began to turn toward the door, then paused and returned to Alita’s desk. Retrieving his pips, he added, “don’ wan’ to forget dese. Dat’s ‘ow rumors get started.”
Once again facing Alita, he spread his arms and pulled her into a hug. Bending over a planting a kiss on the top of her head. “It is good to know dat I ‘ave real family on de ship. You an’ I, we are goine to be fine. Trust me.”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita smiled, sighed, and hugged Remy back.
“One way or another, you’re right. And I don’t really give a damn about rumors on this ship. I’ve decided not to worry so much about it.” she said.
All the same, Alita stepped back and retrieved her pips too. Perhaps it was time to go talk to those two NEs.
